I really didn’t know which house I belonged to (I thought it was a tie between slytherin and gryffindor), so I took the test on pottermore. Turns out I’m a Gryffindor, so I went for Gryffindor in the game too. I just played that part with the ice. Stood there for a solid 5 minutes, but thought exactly the same as you. I really want to win the House Cup and didn’t want to lose any more points if that bitch happened to be found by Snape (of course Snape, who else) and he would probably rip me off 5000 points, the bastard, for no reason (no, watching Merula freezing to death is not a good reason), so... but I sooooo wanted to let her rot there for centuries, even though I knew she couldn’t die just yet

Saving Merula

I’ve seen a lot of posts saying that their hufflepuff instinct kicked when we had the option to either save merula or let her escape on her own from the cursed ice. I’m a slytherin and the only reason why I saved her ass was because I feared that if I left her there some teacher would scold me and make merula have more credibility than me when she managed to get out. Am I the only one who has a reasoning like this?
