OLD MEN!!!!!

I finally had the inspiration to properly draw these 3 elderly agents in my style! Some minor notes below

Calico Jack

- This man is a beautiful mix of multiple wild cats and domestic house cats (my excuse to give him cool details). He is a cocktail of lion, caracal and domestic cat.

- I refined his prosthetics into something more realistic, but still gold because he still needs some of his bling

- This is probably the most current version of my design for him and I am very happy with it

Natquik

- I made him very tiny, very rat-like and very fluffy

- Oversized coat because I think it's cool

- While I firmly believe he had gone at least a bit crazy in the frozen wasteland, he at least maintains his immaculate mustache

Marsh

- Not much of a change, I just desaturated him and used more brown since I imagine a rabbit in the Everglades must blend in a bit more to survive

- Freckles. He has freckles.

Darwin Thylacine and The Continental Roadtrip

So I'm doing this as a little art side project so that people with Octo OCs can have some fun, but it's just the following plot:

Darwin Thylacine, resident cryptid hunter and explorer, is hoping to find some cryptids out in the North American continent. So armed with his camera and good vibes, he's set out to search for these elusive creatures! However, Darwin may encounter some good cryptid folks and folks with not so good intentions. But no matter who he meets, Darwin is gonna keep on going anyway.

That's all good! You can use whatever Octo OC you wanna use! Don't be shy when submitting! Either do so to the comment section, my inbox, or my asks and be as detailed as you wanna be!

If you wanna make your own interaction or art piece with Darwin, go ahead! I'm not stopping you! Just be sure to credit where he came from.

In other words, Darwin is gonna head off to explore and track cryptids all over North America. This is an opportunity to share Octo OCs and make little scenarios of OC interactions. It can range from anything from "Darwin found a new friend! Yay! :]" To "Uh oh, Darwin accidentally made a wrong turn on the hiking path and accidentally stumbled into a den of wild animals :[". Darwin's journal entries will entail who he met, what happened, and where he's going to next complete with a picture to go along with it! I'm gonna try to post updates to this little project semi-frequently (sometimes artistic motivation and life get in the way).

Hey guys, so what if we added poachers to a kids show?

So, meet Jude! Our (Calamaroo's and I's) favorite little fungi addict. She is not a good person by any means, but she's ours.

She exists in her own little AU outside of my actual Octo AU. So like second cousins to my AU, I made her for funsies with Cal.

🚫WARNING🚫 Even though this is an octonauts AU, it is by no means considered canon and is the yapping of individuals. Be wary that this post contains the following.

- Animal testing

- Violence

- Addiction

What Even Is That Creature?

Jude is a Wiltshire sheep. She lived a relatively normal childhood and young adulthood, studying and going to university to achieve a phD in Biochemistry. She was pretty good at it too, being considered a prodigy amongst her peers.

Using this degree, she applied and was hired on for this new organization called "The Octonauts" as their on deck chemist. She was roughly 28 at the time of hiring.

She got along fairly well, helping out on their early missions. The Octonauts were still getting their bearings as they were still just a captain, engineer, funder, and chemist on board instead of the full team. She was living the dream, but it quickly proved to be quite boring. So, in her spare time, she began to run her own studies, and amongst the specimens she collected for cataloging fungi and their toxicity towards wildlife, she encountered an undescribed species.

With its upright column of flourescent orange and the darkened red spots, she observed this specific specimen to have unusual effects upon mammals. It was unique compared to other specimens in the same family, whereas most of the others would produce a hallucinogenic effect, this specific specimen rewired the brain.

Jude thus named it "Wiltshire's Rod" or as Jude affectionately called them, "fungi".

In micro doses, it can act as a pain reliever that didn't cause that much immediate damage to the body. In more potent doses, it numbs and effectively "disconnects" the senses from the brain, eliciting flight or fight responses in users due to the fear from the acute blindness, deafness, loss of smell, numbness and tightening of the airways. In some of the heavy-handed doses, it swings the other way and shocks the system into paralysis, organ failure, and death.

This fungi was found to enter the body through the inhalation of spores (most common) or via consumption of it. The most unsafe method is considered inhalation of spores due to how little you can control the intake.

So what does Jude do? She tests it out in some less than ethical means. Patients are brought in, tests are ran, discoveries are made.

Using her PhD, she manages to refine the fungi into numerous different mixtures and serums with a wide range of effects.

In the madness to see how these concotions affected the body, Jude continued to reach further and further. It began with mice and small rodents. No more were simple pain killers, now she wanted to see how much a creature could take before dropping dead. She was willing to see and willing to document.

When she went to present her findings to Professor Inkling, she expected praise for her research. She made a breakthrough in medical science with this discovery, finding a miracle fungus that could serve a variety of purposes.

Animal cruelty though kinda overshadows that. Conducting experiments without a hypothesis, but for a glorified reason of "just for fun" also isn't a good look.

She was promptly fired, just 3 years after being brought on, her name blackened in the scientific community. Before they could get the chance to turn her in for animal cruelty and endangerment, she was gone. A sea otter by the name of Shellington was hired soon after to replace her.

With all her documents gone and all her connections severed, she decided to fully commit to her research.

Now in her 30s, she spends her time cultivating more of Wiltshire's Rod, hunting, and indulging in her own serums. It's a risky business, but one she enjoys partaking in.

She also found that Wiltshire's Rod is addictive. When smoked in the controlled doses Jude takes, it's keeps her stress at bay and her mind working. But as a result, it rapidly destroys the body from the inside out, leading to her modern-day sickly look. She must use a nasal cannula to intake enough pure oxygen as a result of the fungi destroying her lungs. Her ability to feel touch on her skin is almost absent given the prolonged usage.

Her funds come through sales of the fungi for both recreational and hunting use.

FUN FACTS

- Jude was always a messy person with a slightly crooked moral compass, but the prospect of discovery was what pushed her over the edge into "evil scientist" territory.

- She is aware her outfit is stupid looking by modern fashion standards, but she enjoys how easy it is to put on so refuses to change it.

- Revenge isn't on her list of things to do. However she enjoys causing a little bit of trouble (a lot) occasionally. What are they gonna do? Arrest her?

- She finds hunting just as fun as trapping. She loves to figure out new ways to engineer her fungus into lethal weapons. She has dangerously good aim.

- She actually has an alright relationship with her parents. She sends them money to help fund their knitting and quilting business. They occasionally send her knit sweaters

- She does enjoy the taste of meat, even if it affects her like lactose intolerance. Which herbivore hasn't eaten a tiny bit of meat before?

- She does have that raspy smoker voice, only adding onto her natural gravelly voice.

- In Calamroo's AU, Jude is one of the only shifter poachers that exist. She is well aware that she is a sheep amongst wolves, but loves the danger it brings. She knows they wouldn't touch their only fungi plug. This also puts her as an enemy of her own poacher circles and amongst shifters.

NEW/OLD OCTO-OC, ARTHUR GRIZZLY

I've introduced him a long time ago but now he has official art and refs! Though he originally started out being modeled off numerous characters, he's grown beyond that into his own thing. Calamaroo certainly knows as they're my co-creator for him (60/40 custody).

So, who is he?

Early Life

Arthur's early life mainly follows that of all grizzlies. Staying with your mother and following her every move so that one day you may survive on your own. Nothing truly great or memorable came from this time, say for Arthur meeting a certain polar bear cub.

Early on in his cub years, Arthur was constantly traveling up and down the Alaskan wilderness with his mother, sometimes going too far south and sometimes too far north. On one occasion, where they went too far north, Arthur encountered a polar scout. Though it wasn't common for both solitary species to be friends, cubs do as cubs do and became best friends over the course of Arthur's stay.

Arthur was the trouble maker and "bad influence" of the duo, always finding himself knee deep in trouble. Barnacles was always the one to get him out of trouble. But still, they did everything together. There was many play dates, days exploring the frozen coast line, and days spent sitting around fishing or playing in the sea.

Teen Years / Early Adulthood

Arthur stayed up north longer than one would expect. Food was just enough for his mother to settle there, so the friendship laster for years more.

Barnacles joined the scouts, Arthur got better and better at surviving alone, the years went on. During this time, their bond peaked. However, it all came crashing down when Barnacles eventually left for better job opportunities down south, leaving Arthur behind. They hoped to see each other again soon, though that wasn't gonna happen for a long while.

In the meantime, Arthur spent his early adulthood surviving on his own (mother kicked him out as soon as she could). He spent his days traveling and wandering, eventually settling upon the American Northwest as his home. Along the way, he found new company in the form of Winona, a wild mustang. Next to Barnacles, Winona is the closest friend he has.

Later Years / Octoagent Era

When Barnacles managed to track him down and find him, both were beyond overjoyed at seeing the other alive. Barnacles was glad to see one of his oldest friends still alive, while Arthur was glad to see his at all. Following this, the friendship rekindled, and they went on like there wasn't a separation at all.

To avoid Arthur disappearing into the wild again, Barnacles strongly "nudged" for him to join the octoagents. It took some time, but Arthur eventually did, being hired on as an "expert explorer." It was mainly an excuse to keep in touch, but somehow, Arthur actually was good at his "job" as he managed to discover and catalog many environments, animal populations, and changes relating to Northwestern American ecosystems So, Arthur's pretty good at something. That and also serving as a good guide for emergencies in places where not even gups can reach.

As for Barnacles, he's just happy to go on any mission with his old "friend", no matter how mundane it is.

Smaller Bits

- Arthur is a certified horse girl, as he loves his horse more than he loves most things.

- There is some beef between him and Kwazii, mainly starting as arguments of "who is actually the captain's best friend" which usually extends to personal blows due to contrasting personalities. Barnacles can not keep these two together for long.

- He is more of a nomadic type, chosing to live with nothing but a tent and some supplies than in a proper den or home. Makes it kinda hard to have company over.

- Despite being in a job that requires social interaction, he isn't the most social of people.

- Winona is too smart to be a normal non sapient horse, and no one really believes Arthur when he says they've had many "conversations" together. Most believe he's off his rockers already, but Barnacles believes him (only a little).

Welcome my two Octonauts OCs, Vivian Vulture and Darwin Thylacine!

Vivian Vulture

Though she rarely gets contacted for work through the octo agency (they're a bit too good at their jobs of saving animals), she is a veterinary pathologist! She specializes in performing post mortem exams and all things related to death. She can sniff out any disease and snuff out any foul play in a creatures death. Besides having an irregular schedule with the octonauts, she takes on many jobs from other companies and small side gigs that range from being a seamstress to repairing living animals.

She's 28 years old, and just very wrinkly. She lives in her small home with her roommate and old friend, Darwin, who lives in her basement and contributes only good vibes.

Darwin Thylacine

An expert in cryptozoology with his PhD from a totally real and accredited online university. He runs a podcast and an internet blog advocating for the protection and safe documentation of cryptids. Is he aware that his own species technically counts as a cryptid? No. No one else really knows either.

At 27 years old, his life goal is to meet and interview a crpytid for the book he's been writing "Cryptids Are Our Friends". He is yet to have his resume even looked at by the octo agency.

ITS MY PERSONAL AU AND I CHOOSE WHO MY FAVORITE BEAR IS FRIENDS WITH

So, I was in my bed an I went "Oh yeah Polar bears and grizzly bears come into contact now because of the melting ice don't they". So, I had the idea: what if Barnacles had a Grizzly Bear 'friend'? Strap in kids because it isn't that long but it's what I like to think

Barnacles Bear and Arthur Grizzly

These two have known eachother since they were cubs, meeting in the spring and summer when the ice and snow would thaw. As cubs, Arthur was actually bigger than Barnacles and used this to tease him (much to his annoyance). They were secret friends given how Arthur's mother wasn't fond of her son meeting with Polar bears and Barnacles' mother not liking him being gone for a long time. They parted every winter when the snow set in.

They met every year until they were in their early 20s. When Barnacles was offered the chance to join the Octonauts, he extended it to having Arthur join him as well. Arthur was a hard working guy who could work well in intense environments and in tough times. But he was also a loner. He was more akin to a feral bear than Barnacles with his omniviorous diet, poor social skills, and inability to stay in one place for long. Both Barnacles and Arthur knew this was the end, so Barnacles took the job while Arthur stayed on land.

Arthur still lingers in the back of Barnacles' memories. He isn't dead, but Barnacles has difficulty locating him due to Arthur's nomadic nature.

Fun Facts

- Kwazzi and Arthur are actually similar in personality. Though Arthur has a far drier humor and it's hard for most people to understand it. They would share some killer stories though, Kwazzi with pirate tales and Arthur with myths.

- Barnacles is taller than Arthur now and about twice as heavy (adult male Polar bears are easily double the weight of male grizzlies).

- Arthur gladly eats fish and meat as those are common protein he finds. Barnacles is more for the vegan alternatives with the occasional fish or two in private.

- Arthur is pretty good at being quadripedal. He does it whenever he needs to move quickly. Barnacles used to do this when he was younger too (stopped when he got a deep splinter)

- No, they didn't leave on bad terms. Both of them agreed it was for the best of what they wanted.

- Barnacles is currently looking for Arthur to see if he would like to join the new expanded terrestrial division of the Octonauts.

-Ever since Barnacles left, Arthur moved south towards Southern Canada / Northern U.S.

- Kwazzi, Inkling and Peso are the only people who know about Arthur.

(Also I believe that Barnacles is the kind of uncle that will make sure they go to bed on time but also willing to sneak them desert after dinner if they were grounded. He loves his niece and nephew a lot)
