How could AI 'art' reasonably take over a commodity which by virtue of its existence is valuable purely for the context by which it's made? Even prior to the AI-surge there existed artists of extraordinary skill and output that simply lacked the artistic and cultural context to give their works the same derived-value as someone less technically-inclined. If technical skill were all that made art valuable to us, we'd have coined it a novelty centuries ago. Image generation will replace a certain category of art: the commercial, the disposable, and nothing more - and that is a monetary downturn for the artist. It's not as though companies, hell, even mid-tiered businesses ever truly lacked the means to buy and fund whatever creative projects they wished to fund prior the burgeoning of AI 'art', and though some have the vanity to try, it never, ever, works - without a discerning vision, they could generate a trillion pretty pictures and lack the eye to pick out the good from the bad between them. The value of art in a purely cultural or contextual sense has never been more significant, if not in direct opposition of this commercialization and laziness.

Insulting you doesn’t mean I lack empathy. Empathy is conditional based on whether or not the person deserves to receive it. You clearly don’t.

Accusing me of not properly reading the article I provided is crazy. That analogy is half-baked at best. AI does not generate a completely different thing, it takes stored data and uses said data in an attempt at remaking the image with additives from other keywords. This can be an amalgamation of data from thousands of images, but it is still taking data from an original image and using it to make a similar image. Your analogy makes no fucking sense.

How do you think the images the AI is being fed got into the internet? Because a photographer took that picture or an artist drew and published it. That is a piece of personal property unless it has been SPECIFICALLY stated to be public domain, which is almost never. The only loophole here is that copyright isn’t automatically awarded to someone and they have to complete an entire legal process of copyright. So with real art that is shared online by its creator, there’s an inherent assumption that someone isn’t going to be an asshole and fully steal their work. Nevertheless, it’s frankly shameful to steal someone’s work, no matter the legal status.

Since you claim to be a solderer, I’ll put this into words you might be able to comprehend. How would you react if someone took a piece you finished, added a little something else, and claimed it was all their work? Would that not be stealing the credit for something you made? Even if you didn’t have a copyright on the object, it was still yours, wasn’t it? Or is it now your colleague’s?

How can you not find issue with bots that are made to literally copy another person’s artwork? How is the only issue here “it could be illegal!!!” and not “this is literally robbing another person of their hard work and passion.”

ACTUAL ARTISTS create their own art by their own hands and skill. ACTUAL ARTISTS do not use AI in any step of the fucking process. You and everyone else who uses AI will never be considered an artist because you do not create.

If you don’t care about what makes art literally art, why are you even on Tumblr? Y’know, the website that was made for artists to post THEIR art. Tumblr began selling posts to AI training in February of last year, that was never a default setting before people began to get lazy and pathetic. Just say you’re pissy that you lack any ability to create and now you have to defend yourself online.

“I don’t post ‘my’ AI ‘art’ here because I don’t have enough time to achieve great quality with ‘my’ AI ‘art’!!!!” Because that doesn’t exist. AI ‘art’ isn’t good quality and it never will be. You think it can be good because you have no clue what actually makes art good.

AI was modeled loosely after our neuron structure, which creates new neural pathways after learning something and strengthen after repetition, to create a process called “deep learning.” This resulted in “neural networks,” a series of layered node clusters leading into other node clusters that sends data to the next layer, most often only in one direction.

AI learns by taking in data and spitting it back out again in recognition. AI can learn how to generate a car after being fed thousands of images of a car, but it cannot properly generate a bird after only being fed images of a car. AI is only as good as how many images it’s been fed. AI analyzes images that have been compressed into data, stores data required to reproduce said image, and generates from that.

Also, there are AI bots created to specifically copy an artist’s style! So, yes! AI does literally steal from actual artists, but spits out a version of mangled data that’s unrefined. It quite literally steals from human art and generates an attempt at recreating it. Some of you talentless fucks are so envious of people who worked hard for their skills that you have to ask an AI to generate a shitty version of their art.

The different here is humans actually create their own unique piece using everything they’ve learned because humans have complex thoughts! AI can only take from what it has seen. AI has no imagination or creativity, just like the people who use it.

You continually bring up caveats but don’t even attempt to explain them. What a pathetic attempt at trying to justify your lack of talent and empathy.

Have you ever read a book? If you’re even capable of comprehending anything past a 2nd grade level. Have you watched an animated TV show or movie? Have you ever read a news article? And you know who made all of those? REAL FUCKING PEOPLE. Real people who CREATE.

Art is inherently human because it was made TO BE HUMAN. AI “art” isn’t real fucking art. It lacks the basic components it takes to BE art. It lacks creativity, it lacks expression, it lacks love, it lack care, and it lacks thought! If you genuinely think AI can create you should take a second and learn about something called “critical thinking!” It would really help you during these trying times you’re obviously going through.
