weeks 11-20 on my weekly poster challenge this year, crazy I've actually managed almost half a year of getting these done. 1-10 here.

One angle I've been thinking about with MiaStephCass is like... Bruce in relation to each girl? Kinda centered around Steph?

Like, we all know what happened to Steph.

I had this mental image of Mia, full raging at Bruce for what he did, like genuinely sharp arrow in hand almost stabbing the guy screaming when he shows up around her and Stephanie.

Meanwhile, Cass and Mia have this awkward dynamic of Mia is protective of Steph from Bruce while Cass thinks Bruce loves Stephanie obviously. And like. The tension that would cause.

Okay not to bring men into it but back when I was more into dickroy, a similar thought came up: Roy would not like Bruce Wayne. And while Dick and Bruce have an on and off relationship, I don't think Dick would like. Support Roy fighting Bruce. So it was agreed upon that when Dick and Bruce were on the outs, Roy and Dick talked shit about Bruce, Roy got angry wanted to fight Bruce, Roy was kept away from Bruce. When Dick and Bruce were chill, Roy and Donna talked shit about Bruce, and when Roy was in proximity to Bruce and Dick was around, Roy kept calm for Dick.

So I think a similar scenario applies here, because the Speedy's would be similar in that regard.

Regarding Stephanie, Mia would want to beat the shit out of Bruce, and she would actively shit talk him with Steph, and Steph would try and keep Mia and Bruce from seeing eachother when it was just her and Mia.

With Cass, Mia would shit talk Bruce with either Steph or someone in her family or another friend. She wouldn't shit talk Bruce with Cass actively, tho Cass could probably tell she was angry at something. If Mia was around Bruce and Cass was as well, Mia would control herself, for the good of Cass.

An important thing about Mia Dearden is that it seems like she is impulsive. Save for very, very specific circumstances (Lian being dead, I argue that her kill was not an impulsive decision), Mia has a lot of self control. If she knew talking shit about Bruce, and yelling at him with Cass around would cause problems, she would be able to control those impulses for the sake of Cass. Cass would, in theory, tell that something is up with Mia, sure. Which is why I think Cass would go out of her way to keep Bruce and Mia from eachother.

So yeah the solution is Mia having impulse control and being good at reading situations. Things she can do and is good at, but it's more like. At home with Ollie she doesn't need to a whole bunch. After she became Speedy, she was very controlled as a hero in serious situations, but at home she didn't need to worry about how people would react, any impulse of hers (save for a couple like Ollie dream) wouldn't really cause any contention, because most were more... silly and childish. (Also pointing to Ollie dream that is a very good example of her internalizing her impulses and not acting on them.)

My Mia ships in order of how based in logic/canon is the reason i ship them:

Cassiemia: They held hands once. Yep starting with that it only goes downhill from here

Mienna: Canary + Arrow DUH!!! They had like 2 lines of talking to eachother and thats enough for me I can totally see it

Rosemia: technically they appeared in the same comic together. I think it'd be pretty interesting that's all. It'd also be funny I heart spiting Jason Todd.

Stephmia: wild jump from "appeared in the same comic together" to "likely don't know eachother" I'm pretty sure this came to me in a dream and I'm RIGHT ABOUT IT!!!! I don't have words to describe how amazing this ship would be its so good. Speedy + Robin just like the old days.

Cassmia: a derivative of stephmia ofc. Cassteph is a staple and very important to me and I couldn't really break them up so I was thinking of casstephmia and I went "wait a minute Cass and Mia interacting would go HARD" and so it came to be. Just like the way their trauma affects the way they interact with other people and the way their individual traumas would conflict is so yummy

Hot take but Mia Dearden figuring out Green Arrow's secret identity in Green Arrow 2001 is more iconic that Tim Drake figuring out Batman and Nightwing.

I don't think we talk enough about how insanely persistent and intelligent Mia actually is. Like... I don't mean that she's the best archer. She's not "better" than Ollie, or Roy, or Connor. She's probably not "better" than Emiko or Cissie, either. I mean more that all of those people have been shooting for years -- literally since childhood, some almost from birth -- and Mia didn't even touch a bow for the first time until some nebulous point when she was 15. And she became Speedy officially almost right on her 17th birthday (within a week, give or take). Like, think about that? She went from completely untrained, likely in poor-to-fair health at best, to peak athleticism and keeping up with the greatest archers in the world in less than two years. While also juggling an undiagnosed major illness, playing catch-up with several years of lost education, and recovering from severe childhood trauma. She started much later than everybody else, and with significant barriers to her physical, mental, and emotional health, and still picked up a brand new skill and worked it to an almost superhuman level in a shockingly short amount of time.

That's actually a little bit insane. And it's a testament to both her determination to learn, and to Connor's abilities as a teacher. It's a shame we didn't really get to see him train her on-panel much. We got to see Mia training herself quite a bit -- which is important, because it drives home how hard she worked and how much iron-balled initiative she took with her own goals -- but her actual training with Connor and, later, Ollie was almost entirely off-panel. Anyway, let's give Mia Dearden credit for being the little phenom that she is.
