And look if anyone would be able to crawl out of being buried under a million souls, be able to strike out of that forced grave once again no matter how long it takes, it's her, Mina The Buried who refuses to break. More than Alucard, even. The canon Mina who volunteered to go under, die each dawn and dusk, the Mina who asked for her funeral as a battle tactic, wouldn't accept her fate to being helplessly used for harvest lying down. Not without a plan B in motion. (oops sorry accidentally ranted abt 500th time of doing my girl dirty)

From Protagonist to Romantic Prop: Mina Murray’s Transformation

Society has progressed past the need for more Dracmina adaptations. We need a Dracula adaptation where Mina's unbridled hatred and rage towards the Count is so apparent that she's hellbent on getting revenge. We need a movie where she takes her rightful place as Dracula's arch nemesis instead of Van Helsing, who canonically was nowhere near as hurt by him personally as Mina has. This was the monster who traumatised her husband and murdered her best friend. He hurt the people she loved most, and she's going to make sure he hurts for the rest of his immortal existence.

It's more in the vein (pun intended) of "I would rather go to hell than abandon my wife."

The thing is “My love becomes a vampire so I’ll become one too to stay with her” can’t hit the same anymore. It’s become just a “ooh being a vampire would be sexy!” or “yay we get to live forever!” romantic thing versus the most defiantly heretical devotion that would make the paper it was written on burn. There’s no “ooh~ vampires~” but rather being willing to join everything you fear and dread the most, that once shattered your mind to endure.

It also just can’t hit the same without that backdrop of severe Victorian social mores one dare not set a foot outside, and a lifetime of being bound by them. Or without the certainty that heaven is real, and you’re willing to bar yourself from it for eternity if your love isn’t granted entrance.

This is gothic Romance with a capital R at its pinnacle and I’m never going to stop thinking about it
