NEW PERCY JACKSON BOOK!! The Wrath of the Triple Goddess!
Honestly, I’m so thrilled, especially after CotG. But the title gives me a LOT of ideas. There are tons of triple goddesses in mythology, and some of them aren’t even Greek/Roman! Examples (and my thoughts on them!):
- The Charities/Graces: they don’t seem super wrathful, but hey. I could definitely see Percy having to go through an etiquette class. :)
- The Horai: Again, the seasons aren’t super wrathful, but Rick could have a ton of surprises in mind!
- The Morai: Percy has cheated fate so many times that I could totally see this happening. It’d be a really interesting concept!
- Hera: Hera is referred to as a goddess sometimes because she can represent childhood, womanhood, and widowhood. I feel like this would be kind of stretch, but the title really fits and I would LOVE to see some Percy and Annabeth and Hera conflict.
- Hecate: Hecate is supposedly a triple moon goddess, and the OG triple goddess at that. However, I don’t think this will be about Hecate, because we’ve already seen her in HoH and BoO, and she was on the side of the heroes. Idk though. (Sometimes Hecate, Selene, and Artemis or Hecate, Demeter, and Persephone were grouped as a triple goddess, but this would definitely not make sense in the CHB universe!)
- Tridevi: This is a Hindu goddess, which we haven’t seen Rick write anything on, and I’d love to see a Riordanverse crossover. However, I’m not sure I like that idea of having a Hindu crossover because Hinduism is a real religion with millions of people practicing. I’m not on an expert on this in anyway, nor do I think we shouldn’t have that representation in Rick’s books, but it would have to be written very well and not appropriate the religion and culture.
- The Morrigan: Irish mythology and probably the most well known triple goddess. When I first heard the title my mind went to this. Rick has shown obvious interest in this subject, so I think there’s a really good chance we’ll see something about this in the future! And once again, I’d love a crossover. However, not sure that this is the book it’ll be in.
- Norns: We see these in Magnus Chase, and it’s be awesome to see Magnus and Percy interact. However, the first time Percy and Magnus meet takes place AFTER the events of this book, so it’d probably be a crossover without Magnus, which would kind of defeat the purpose.
- There is also something in Egyptian history called the triple goddess stone, but I’m not sure entirely what it is, or if there is even a figure that’s behind it. Maybe this is all wishful thinking, because I’d LOVE to have a Kane chronicles cross over. Granted, it might not work time-wise, but it’s be awesome.
This is all just me having too much invested in a series from when I was 12 and having too much free time. It’s also all just guesses, so please don’t take this too seriously. There’s just a lot of different routes Rick could take (tons of which did not make this post) and I’m excited to see where it ends up!
Note: I’ve done more research and it appears that Hecate will indeed be featured in the book, but there could be more figures, like Demeter/Persephone or Artemis/Selene, or an entirely different goddess! It probably is Hecate, but there’s still lots of options!

Imagine…
Lucy falls out of the wardrobe and just sobs. She can feel it, that it won’t open back up. Everyone they loved is on the other side of a wall, but there’s no way around it. She hugs her knees to her chest and wishes she was anywhere else. She is grieving.
Susan steps into the Spare Room and immediately feels sick. Her body doesn’t fit right anymore. Her legs are too short and her head is so light because her hair is gone. She gives dry sobs and scratches at her skin. It’s like putting on a shoe that’s too tight or a dress that’s too short; she feels both tied down and exposed but she has no idea how to fix it. She is in pain.
Peter takes one step out before he runs back in. He rams the back of the wardrobe with his shoulder over and over and over again, until hot frustrated tears stream down his cheeks because he cannot be a boy again, he can’t. There’s no strength in his body anymore, but when the wood starts to creak he gives up. He slides down the wall in defeat and reaches to tug on a beard that isn’t there, to rub a scar that’s melted into his skin. He is defeated.
Edmund stumbles onto the floor and just heaves a great sigh. He did not want this, nor did he expect it, but he should have. He does not weep, he does not tear at his skin, he does not force his way back home. He simply stands up, and thanks Aslan for the second chance at life, even if he does not want it. Edmund is not happy to be back in England; his heart is, in fact, cleaved in two. But he knows the power of plans that are not his own. He is hopeful.

Can we talk about how extra Vernon Dursley was in TSS? Like, he’s getting large amounts of magic mail and the guy decides to either buy or rent a house/fortress on an island in the middle of a storm. They also needed a boat to get there. How long did that take to find and buy? Was that always the plan? Did he and Petunia give Harry a place to live and decide "we need a backup"? Or did he just decide that he was going to look into real estate the moment the letters flew out of the chimney. How do they get there? Does Vernon have a boating license? And how long were the Dursleys going to stay there??? Did he rent a hideout or was this like, new address? Like, "Sorry Dudders, we're moving here and becoming hermits. There's no other option." And Harry was like "oooo exciting birthday!" he did not seem to find this strange in any way. Did Uncle Vernon routinely do things like this? How did he find the house? Did he Zillow it? "2 bed, 1 bath, no neighbors, large cliff-face, owl proof, £30k-50k." There was literally a housing crisis in Britain in the early 90's and nothing makes sense about this situation. When I was 12 I was like "Mmhmm yeah checks out" and now that I understand how real life works I'm just really confused how Vernon Dursley found a For Sale shack in under a day.

I am PAGE 14 of Chalice of the Gods and I am crying. Not because of anything particular that happened but because it feels like coming home. I have not gotten to read a new book in Percy’s first person POV in so long, and I think those 14 pages just cured some sort of home sickness in me. I was worried it would feel different but it literally feels like I’m in middle school again. HIGHLY recommend CoG even if you’re doubtful.
Everybody needs a new dose of Percy sometimes.

I wish we’d gotten more Jill and Lucy interaction in The Last Battle. Lucy and Susan were so close and when Susan steps away from Narnia, Lucy suddenly has this sister shaped hole in her life. I like to imagine that Eustace writes a letter to Lucy and says “help I went to Narnia with this girl from my school and she’s asking all these questions and I don’t know how to answer” and Lucy is like “Peter, Ed, we need a support group”. So Peter asks Professor and Polly and they all go to Polly’s house for tea and Eustace arrives with this sweet girl with dark hair and bright eyes and Lucy’s just immediately “mine and y’all can back off”. They’re pen pals and phone buddies and talk about every thing, from clothes to books to art to movies to Narnia and Jill is at the Pevensie house almost as much as she’s at the Scrubb house. I imagine that Jill is really good at sewing and manages to make Narnian dresses for her and Lucy and they’ll have picnics in secluded corners of parks in their not-quite Narnian dresses because British fabric will never compare to Narnian fabric but it feels almost real if they take their shoes off and drink water from the springs and eat apples and fish and bread with thick, salty butter with their fingers. Lucy uses her drawing skills to record what Jill and Eustace saw in the Silver Chair and Jill has drawings of Aslan and Cair Paravel tucked in her school books. Susan never quite understands how Lucy became so close to Jill but they always ask her to join in, and Jill shows Lucy how to make a dress for Susan, who leaves it hanging in her closet for years after they’re gone. Lucy and Jill are sisters in the same way that Eustace and Caspian and Edmund are brothers and they’re never found far from each other. Lucy loves her brothers (Eustace included) but I think there’s something special about the relationship between the two younger daughters of Narnia and I really wish we could have seen that in the series.

Random friend: Helen Pevensie, your children are just so well behaved and mature. I can’t imagine having children who act as nicely as yours do.
“Pile on Pete!” Lucy yells and they all jump onto Peter who grunts and grumbles but doesn’t push them off.
Peter and Edmund hitting each other with sticks in the back garden
Susan and Peter telling Edmund to eat his vegetables and him telling them that he’s an adult and he will eat his vegetables when he wants to. And to back off.
Lucy climbing a tree in her nice clothes because “I’m really good mum don’t worry it’s like the trees taught me”
Susan sneaking back inside at midnight with an empty quiver and bow. “I can explain”
Peter and Edmund routinely leaving school grounds on weekends to see Lucy and Susan at their own school.
Lucy spending more time with girls twice her age than other 10 year olds.
Edmund always sneaking away from the children’s section in the library and getting books on gory battles and great military failures.
Peter getting in fights over stepped on toes.
Lucy fighting bedtime every chance she gets.
All of them accidentally drinking wine on more than one occasion because they saw the glass and didn’t think about where they were.
Lucy somehow knowing how to punch.
Edmund ‘borrowing’ a horse from the school coach house to go riding over the weekend while he was bored.
Susan always spilling flour over the kitchen when she’s tasked with dinner and Peter can’t do dishes without soaking everyone in the kitchen.
All of them being terrible about cleaning up after themselves because they got so used to having staff to do those sorts of things.
Lucy forgetting electricity is a thing and taking candles to read in the dark, which half terrifies her parents. She gets lots of playing with fire lectures.
Edmund and Lucy releasing all of their cousin’s science project subjects.
All four of them routinely covered in mud and brambles from the woods.
“Yes, I’m not sure how they all got to be like this,” Mrs. Pevensie laughs awkwardly. “It certainly wasn’t me.”

(Narnia, Dawn Treader spoilers alert!) One of the only complaints about the CoN I have is the lack of epilogue type of content in TVotDT. There’s just so much more that Lewis could’ve given us at the end. Things I wish he’d expanded on:
1. What happened to Caspian? Like, he obviously lives out his life in Narnia as king, but immediately after. What did Aslan say to him? Was there a conversation, or did Caspian turn to find himself alone completely? And did Aslan send him back to the ship magically? Or, the much more probable and heartbreaking option, did he row himself back completely alone? How miserable would that have been, to have gone with your brother and sister, this boy you are just getting to know and love, and one of your most devoted soldiers and friends, only to have gone back alone? The Pevensies are always having to leave, but what about Caspian getting left behind?
2. How did Aunt Alberta and Uncle Harold respond to the change in their son? Are they horrified by the change in such a short time, indifferent, or pleased? It seems like they’re both super indulgent with their son, so are they okay with him becoming a Narnian, or does it disturb them how similar he now is to his cousins.
3. How did Peter (and maybe Susan) respond to Eustace going to Narnia. I’d like to think that Peter and Eustace are both nervous to see each other, but they just immediately click and Lucy is like “is this what it feels like to not be the favorite” and Edmund is like “screw you, but yes”.
4. Do Lucy and Edmund teach Eustace all about Narnia, or just kind of tell him as he asks? Like, do they sit down and just have a Narnia lesson with language, history, geography, etc., or does Eustace one day just ask questions like “wait there’s a Narnian language??” (Because you know he wouldn’t have been paying attention to background noises and everyone would’ve talked to him in English to be nice) or “wait wait wait the first king was a cabby??”
5. Does Eustace still like entomology and ask tons of questions about bugs and stuff in Narnia, or is he ashamed of himself and the frames of dead insects on his desk. (I know he wouldn’t kill any more bugs, but would he avoid the subject all the the time?)
6. What was Ed and Lucy leaving like? Did they make plans to see each other soon, were there a ton of tears and choked up hugs?
Idk, I love the book how it is, but I wish there was more shown on the new sibling/cousin dynamic between Ed, Lucy, and Eustace and how the whole trip affected everyone.

MINA MURREY/MINA HARKER APPRECIATION POST
One of my favorite things about 1897 Dracula is how Mina is portrayed. So often in horror/vampire genre, women are this Buffy the Vampire Slayer, sword wielding, physically strong heroine. And that’s great. Literature (and society as a whole) need female characters like that. But the heroes of Dracula already have a stake-wielding, explorer/hero type character. Mina is feminine and not the physically strongest person, but that doesn’t mean she’s not important. She uses her femininity as an asset rather than a hindrance. Their group doesn’t need another Quincey or Jonathan. They need a reason to fight, a loving figure to welcome them home when they succeed, and an emotionally and mentally strong woman who has the train tables memorized and someone to look at records and figure out what’s going on. Every other character is focused on taking down Dracula through brute force (or communion wafers) but Mina learns about the problem before she does anything else. And yes, she did fall victim to Dracula, but she didn’t immediately play the victim and give up. It made her (and her teammates) work harder than ever.
And yeah, maybe this is all because Bram Stoker was sexist and couldn’t see a strong women having genuine physical strength. And there’s nothing wrong with modern characters like that. But when did writers decide that women in vampire books could only be a Bella Swan or a Buffy? Mina was such a great character for me because she was relatable. She was motivated by love without being toxic or pathetic in the eyes of the audience or her fellows. I wish more people would appreciate Mina, because I don’t think I’ve ever known a character quite like her.

I often wonder about what Edmund, Eustace, and Lucy talked about for the rest of the summer.
I imagine they're all hanging out peacefully, reading or something, and then all of the sudden Edmund's like "Hey Eustace. Do you remember that time you tried to sue King Caspian of Narnia in British court of law first thing after being fished out of the ocean?"
And Eustace gets all embarrassed and grumbles to himself, so Lucy takes pity on him and volunteers "You know, the first time Edmund went into Narnia he literally took candy from a stranger"
And Eustace now demands that they explain everything because he believes them now, and I just think it would have been really good bonding time for them

Can we talk about how chaotic Narnian battles would feel?? Especially in Prince Caspian. Like, imagine you’re a little Telmarine soldier waiting for the catapults to go and you’ve got all your regiments in nice orderly rows and these two 16 year olds suddenly yell “charge” and the ground opens up beneath you, a mouse with a sword the size of a large pencil takes out your bestie, a griffin drops a dwarf 5 ft away from you and he comes up swinging. As you try to rationalize this, you’re stabbed by a twelve year old with a British accent. Finally, a really freaking big lion shows up, roars, and your entire army collectively pees their pants. At one point in the movie (yes I know the movies aren’t quite the same as the book but they’re still good) Peter says like “we have the element of surprise” like dude, you have drafted the trees I’m pretty sure everyone’s gonna be surprised no matter what.

Things that made the battle scene in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe still the best battle scene I’ve ever seen:
Epic scenery
The MUSIC
The moment the music stopped and you just hear bodies colliding and shouts and the clatter of weapons. So chilling
How Peter’s battle strategies clearly reflect his experiences and values; he uses the griffin’s to essentially bomb the witch’s army and keeps Edmund safe out of range on the cliff. He uses the air space over the enemy as an important battle field which is often forgotten in fantasy battles (but was such a big deal in blitzed London)
The variety of of creatures in each army. The film uses this as a moment to world build on who lives in Narnia and establish what they value by who’s side they’re on
It emphasises how each unique creature is built different and how that effects the battle. A good example is how the tiny guy with the sword takes down the rhino (it’s a split second scene where the rhino looks like he trips but he was actually attacked)
There a unicorn, like, come on
Again, the silence that comes when the music stops just before the two armies collide. Exquisite
It’s not an overly gory battle, and it’s not made to look super grey or gritty, but it doesn’t glorify it either. It’s made to look epic but also terrible - there’s broad daylight and colour in each shot but the music adds weight to the deaths that happen
Just a huge amount of fantasy creatures that don’t look like robots. Those fauns look genuinely nervous
The way Peter consults the other leaders like the griffin and Oreius. He respects them
Peter’s glance over his shoulder to Edmund for reassurance
The way Edmund gives him a nod. SO cool.
It demonstrates how they’re both kings and although Peter is leading the army Edmund is also playing a vital role in the battle

Prince Caspian's story has always been so funny to me cause him and his allies obviously agree that he's much too young and brash to be the king right now, he needs to blow the horn and call upon wiser and older leaders then he, so he does, and immediately summons four even Younger and Brasher royals😭😭 Like if his flaw is he's too reckless and impulsive welp not to worry, here's mad high king Peter and lying to join the military Edmund, is that helpful? Is that what you needed?
Also the fact they're kids😭 Can you imagine having a scroll that summons the greatest figures from history and it Does but it's that figure EXCLUSIVELY as a preteen. Imagine you have a button that brings Abraham Lincoln back to life and you press it and it's Teen Abe Lincoln
