How does Gale know you are a wizard vs sorcerer vs non-magic user immediately after pulling him from the portal at the very, very beginning ? (Don’t tell me it’s based on clothing)

Ahhh, I love the idea that Gale pops out of the portal, takes one look at Tav and is like ‘Ah! I can tell from your style of pants that you’re a wizard!’ 😂

But no, Gale’s knowledge is not clothing-based! And in fact, he only truly knows if Tav is a wizard—everyone else gets a “You’re not versed in magic, are you?” line. This can then be disputed if Tav does indeed have some sort of magic ability (sorcerer, Druid magic, etc etc) and Gale will apologize, explaining that he’s looking for someone studied in magic, aka a wizard.

If Tav is a wizard, Gale will instead say this:

I think it’s cute that Gale apparently gets a lil buzz from the Weave whenever he shakes hands with/touches a fellow wizard! Especially if it’s a Tav he’s going to romance (and in every one of my playthroughs that’s guaranteed 🥰). May I offer you the ‘hand flex’ scene from Pride & Prejudice? Because that’s now what’s in my brain for a Gale/Wizard Tav budding romance:
