For Never knows best, 3, 4, & 11?
Oof, 3 is a toughie because I had a lot of lines I loved in NKB. If I had to pick, though, I'd say it would have to be when Lux is being super normal and platonic about Jay in her journal:
...what was a sermon to those springberry eyes? What was a God or an Aspect compared to her silent lips?
As for 4, favorite line of dialogue? I think that has to go to Auntie Tia, actually.
"...A girl, though? A girl might ruin your whole life, and you may never stop loving her despite that.”
And in terms of 11, what I liked best about this fic? I think what I liked best about it was being able to correct all the EGREGIOUS flaws from the Lux comic AND being able to address all the things that I felt were left unsatisfied at the end of Arcane S2 at the same time. Being able to do both, narratively speaking, was really satisfying.

Based off the reblog you posted 🤭
"Never Knows Best" - Where did the title come from?? Is it a saying? A reference?
Never Knows Best is a reference to a brief scene in an anime called FLCL (Fooly Cooly)!
Tumblr media
But more importantly, the reason I chose it is because it's a sentence that can be read two different ways; either as 'I never know best' as in 'I'm a fuck-up and I always make the wrong choice'.
Or as a more literal sentence saying: 'Never' knows best. As in 'never' 'nothingness' 'doing nothing' 'being nothing' would be best.
I thought it reflected Jay/Jinx's state of being in NKB.

Everytime I rewatch HTTYD I just... adore how toothless is animated and treated like a human character/actor (BUT STILL IS VERY MUCH ANIMALISTIC I HAVE TO EMPHASIZE THIS)
his roars whenever he flies (you just hear them even if his face isn't shown in the shot, like they added that in there so you can hear his mood!! HES HAPPY HE CAN FLY), his microexpressions even if he isnt the focus of the scene, or when he is for just a few seconds and you can almost see the gears turning and what he's thinking about, its brilliant i love him
the other dragons get that treatment too, though not as obvious as they dont have as much screentime, first thought in mind for anyone non-toothless is Stormfly 'laughing' at Snotlout's attempt at hitting her with his hammer, then Meatlug's expresion as she spots the rocks after her clusmy entrance, makes u think at first that 'she's hungry for rocks?' but as you learn more about them she's actually charging up her shots, Barf's devious expression and deliberately expelling gas to show Fishlegs' messed up, the terrible terror throwing away the fish tail in a very human way of like. throwing a bottle and getting ready to throw down
okay imma stop i have to do my homework dsfkbgjsdljfkg

I think I need to get this off my chest.
I have seen a few posts from people saying they loved the live action HTTYD remake. I think that they are so blinded by nostalgia, and nostalgia bait, that they're unable to think critically about the movie. And that genuinely frustrates me.
The movie, from what I've seen and heard about it, is terrible. Unnecessary changes to the story that don't make any sense, important scenes removed, terrible Asylum sci-fi film-worthy acting, generic and bland 'reimaginings' for the dragons, (with Toothless's cartoony design sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the other realistic dragon designs.) Astrid being girlbossified for no reason, and to top it off, they lied about it not being a shot for shot remake, when reviews and posts from those who have seen it confirm otherwise, this plus the unnecessary changes I mentioned.
STOP GIVING MONEY AND PRAISE TO THESE TRASHY REMAKES. Watch the original instead, it's leagues better than any nostalgia bait cashgrab ever will be.

I’ve just watched the liveaction httyd movie, and when I tell you that it felt like being spit in the face then that’s being nice.
It was simply atrocious, the acting felt like a TikTok video, with the occasional reading directly from the script, the cgi was terrible and the story wasn’t making sense, they’ve cut some of the most important scenes that made the movie work, only adding scenes that either canonically did not make sense or made the movie worse.
Httyd never, never fails to make me cry. This time it has simply rendered me furious and in disbelief.

How to train your dragon live action
The thing that is actually offensive is the blatant effort to manipulate us, the viewer, for our money and time—and the fact that it will succeed.
Is it a movie that we have never seen before? No, the animated version exists.
Does it expand on the world we love? No, looked basically shot for shot. And a show already exists.
Does it tell the story in a new artistic or technologically interesting way? No.
Is it a corporation preying on our nostalgic love for something that exists to make easy money? Yes.
Then there’s always the question:
Can’t you let people enjoy things?
“Let” is an interesting word. It implies that a criticism forces someone into a non-choice. No one is ever forcing a person from spending their money and/or time with a critique. But if a critique makes a person rethink how they see things or even consider other points of view, that’s really valuable. A person might even hear a criticism and still disagree after.
The reason my particular criticism exists is because it makes me sad to see fellow regular people signal to a corporation that, “yes I will allow you to manipulate me. Yes I don’t mind if the progress of our cultural creativity gets stunted.”
Because where we spend our money and time says that—and time is our most important and valuable asset. Corporations take our time in exchange for them to have money, and it is exactly why they create remakes. It is the easiest way to get money from us. So easy, they don’t even have to think of a new story. They just use the original property as a beat for beat plagiarized reference.
Many original works of art do not get funded because people are giving their money to see a retelling of the same story that exists. The money will be given to whoever will earn. Interesting to always hear “they’ve run out of ideas”, and then see the box office for these story husks soar past the original.
These types of movies belittle the past and future efforts of hard work and creativity.
That is why it is hard to see people enjoying something that has obvious disregard towards us. As a patron of the arts, I want our world to move forward; and the next generation to feel encouraged and inspired by creativity, art, hard work, and the humanities. I don’t want to be scammed of my money and time when that’s harder to earn for us than them.
This is not a critique on remakes that recreate, reiterate, and reimagine. There is an art in a retelling especially if it’s through a new medium or technology.
This is a critique on scalpers reselling for easy money. Things need to be worth our time and money for us to give it away, and I don’t think things like this should be worth it for you or me as working class people.

I feel like some kind of boomer when I see so many people fangirling the new HtTYD.
It was NOT faithful to the original, it bears a passing resemblance.
I'm not opposed to changes, I both love the Dune books and the differences in Denis' movies, for example.
But with this new HtTYD live-action version, I'm opposed to making a movie seem like it's the same on the surface, and completely missing the point on the deeper artistic aspects.
I really do think the team was trying, and I'm not going to say they "failed", but the 2025 version does not have the soul of the 2010 version.
