random 3 am Malevolent thought about exactly how John has Arthur’s eyes

we know that John doesn’t actually control Arthur’s eyes; the Butcher asking him what’s wrong with his eyes. his pupils don’t focus on anything. so if John doesn’t actually possess Arthur’s eyes, how does he see what Arthur sees?

he controls Arthur’s occipital lobe. which would also be why Arthur doesn’t have spacial awareness on his own; i.e. when he ran into the dock early in the series. as when theres something wrong with the eyes themselves, the brain can still process objects, because their occipital lobe is still in tact. however if there is damage to the occipital lobe, it can be lost. if John controls Arthur’s though, he would lose that too. which we see in the series

I know it’s supernatural and it might be silly to explain exactly how these things work but my brain brought it up and I had to express it cause humans are weird, and brains are weird, and John controlling an actual full part of Arthur’s brain I feel in a way adds to the horror of it. like a fucked up puppeteer. not controlling everything, but having just enough control to be vital for their survival. while yes Arthur could, in normal circumstances, survive on his own, obviously, as blind people exist, would he be able to survive the abnormal shit he lands himself in? likely not

rewatching neverafter knowing gerard was never properly socialized and spent most of his life as a frog makes me feel so much. of course he’s awkward and weird! of course he’s going to say the wrong thing! he was a frog for a huge part of his life! he literally didn’t have anyone to converse with from the end of childhood until the beginning of his adulthood. he missed out on some incredibly formative years.

also “outside is scary inside is safe that is why castles are built! everything is good in here!” from a man who was only safe once he was allowed inside and suffered intense trauma for years uninterrupted while being forced outside goes so insane. it only makes sense that he added “and flies” to elody’s list of threats. flies represent the worst part of his existence. he is unsafe when surrounded by flies and forced to use them as a source for food. gerard is forced to learn that you can be unsafe anywhere. he can be a frog anywhere, even in a position of royalty that should grant him to utmost comfort.

Honestly finding out that John was tricking the witch was the greatest relief to me. I kept being so desperate that he was playing with her, and she took out the ‘crystallizer’, and I was so curious on where it was going bc I didn’t think it worked like that. Then John said ‘squeeze’ and there was a moment of ‘huh?’

I feel like John will start using Yorick the same way that the grand viser was used against him. Like, the talking head putting on a John Voice and actually being able to communicate in a weird way.

Exactly! And eventually Arthur manages to ignore the impulse and John gets low key upset and stops trying to play around with it so that the most physical proof of their closeness doesn’t fade anymore.

I keep thinking that Arthur has so much muscle memory of following John's voice, and when John gets his own body and starts a private investigation office with Arthur. (It will happen, trust) At first, he only really uses it in like fights to tell him to duck and stuff. But one day, he realizes he can use it for evil and makes Arthur walk into a wall like 3 times by randomly saying, "Turn left" before arthur stops listening to him

I’m not remembering when, but at one point John states that he moves the left hand mostly on instinct. So, like, climbing a ladder or holding on to something. And there’s a pretty big fandom headcanon that he lets Arthur fiddle with it while thinking or something/self soothing. First off, I think it would be hilarious that, if after all this time, Arthur accidentally teaches John how to flip people off. Like, our guy would use it any chance he gets. For the most part he’s just holding on to things or keeping his hand loose, but imagining John flipping someone off and Arthur having to come up with a reason for it. Obviously, flipping the monsters off too.

Second, something I always thought of while listening was how it would prob be easier to guide Arthur if John was pressing against his thigh or something to show him exactly where to go. A little slap would get him to stop, different signs for left or right. Like, so much of the awkwardness of Arthur accidentally bumping into things/moving the wrong way/etc would be moot. I initially imagined this as him tapping on Arthur’s shoulder, but I figure that also might be a bit obvious & his use of the arm is kind of questionable sometimes (does Arthur move the arm, or can John guide it around with his hand like one of those wooden snake toys?)

same, I could literally taste the weird tension. Just imagining Oscar and Noel’s expressions of genuine confusion and wtf-ery, but then it WORKS???!!! Like, the butcher is totally being swayed and impacted by this stupid excuse for taunting. Along with Daniel being notabley still a little high (?) and just sitting there like “welp… this is how I’m done in.”
