How...how do you draw mouths the way that you do??! They're always so expressive and just plain pretty to look at. Please teach us more of your awesome ways *bows humbly*
Ohhh gosh, thank you! I’m glad you like em! I actually don’t do anything too special, but here’s a few tips!
Tumblr media
The first thing I focus on is the top lip. The more you focus on the curve, the more variation and form it’s given.
Tumblr media
Then, I focus on the lip shape in general. The top lip is actually “darker” than the bottom, because it’s in shadow.
Tumblr media
It’s better illustrated in color, and it makes seeing form it it easier and clearer.
Tumblr media
Another big aspect I rely on and love to utilizes is the gums. Gums are great for giving a very real, tangible, finite look to the teeth, rather than have them stretch endlessly in the mouth. Again, use curves!
Tumblr media
Another big thing with the gums, is knowing where the’re at. Think of how the jaw is lowered and raised, rather than the top, which remains static. For the top though, the lip itself can reveal the gums, when stretched.
Tumblr media
When expressing emotion, (and I know I bring this up a LOT) exaggerate! Pull the corners back far, show the gums, show the bottom row, move the tongue! Again, use curves! Never keep too static a line, especially in the top lip.
Tumblr media
And finally, wrinkles! Use the surrounding skin and flesh I to your advantage! Pull it for age and expression, compress it to show youth, (typically).
Thank you again, and I really hope this helps!

How do you draw noses?
I’m not sure what specific part you’re wondering about, so here’s a run-through of my process from sketching to painting!
1) The first thing I do is simplify the nose into a few basic shapes to get a prism-like block, like so:
Tumblr media
2) I can now easily draw the prism shape in three-dimensional space depending on the angle and rotation of the head.
Tumblr media
3) Using the guidelines/planes I can draw a proper nose in any angle! There aren’t many tricks or shortcuts for this step, unfortunately (other than practicing lots). I recommend using references, they’re always helpful :)
Tumblr media
4) Really important to note: all noses vary greatly, especially from different ethnicities! A high-bridge “aristocratic” sort of nose or a ski-slope button nose might be accurate for some people, but definitely not everyone. Compare differences in size, width, a hooked or button nose tip, high or low nose bridge, and so on:
Tumblr media
5) Then I paint! I have a skin tone tutorial here, if it helps. Take note of the lighting, skin tone, etc. Here are some things I keep in mind:
For pale skin tones, the nose sometimes has a redder colouration than the rest of the face because of increased blood flow.
The nose also usually has highlights (due to oil). These are located on the tip of the nose, the nostril groove, and where the base of the nose meets the flat area of skin around it!
Tumblr media
Hope this helps! In the end, all stylistic choices are completely up to you. Art’s subjective, so feel free to draw any noses you want :)

aspiring artist here, i really like your art, and (i’m assuming) a lot of it is drawn from the imagination, and i was wondering if you have any tips for doing so? my art is adequate when i copy from a reference but anything original i try to draw comes out lookin like a potato. (please don’t feel any obligation to answer this; it’s not your job to tutor me)
i’m not really good at giving art advices i think, but:
1) if You feel it looks like a potato go back to basic fundamentals, anatomy, form, lighting / shadow, don’t copy but actually understand what You’re drawing. The potato effect happens if You are, how to say it, forgetting what’s inside, why things look how they look. If You’re drawing a portrait You gotta remember there’s a skull inside, You gotta understand why the light works this way or another, understand the basic forms and shapes and volumes. And i don’t think it matters if You’re aiming for realistic or cartoonish or any other style, it’s always needed to understand basic things first.
2) don’t copy from references, use them as something to support You but not as a thing You’re basing Your entire work on. You can use a light from a portrait You like as a reference even if the face and the angle is very different from what happens on your drawing, but again, if You remember how the form works in space, how it behaves when it rotates etc. You can translate / reimagine it to fit Your needs and it can still be invaluable help for You.
This might be unpopular opinion but i’m not a big fan of learning by copying. At least it never worked too well for me. I feel like my brain becomes lazy when i do that. It’s still might be cool sometimes especially if it’s an element of something like doing a study of master’s work or this kind of things, but that’s kinda a different topic, but otherwise i feel like adding some “trick” to it might be a better idea to keep them brain cells spinning. Like yeah, sure, take a portrait as a reference, but try to draw a completely different character while looking at it.
i have no idea if that’s even helpful but there You go

fandoms act like pedophiles don’t watch tv, read books, or use the internet. “fiction vs reality” all you want but predators consume content that aligns with their interests. real, actual predators ship adults with minors, possess child porn of both real kids and fictional ones, read stories that show csa in a positive light, etc.
like I can see a predator watching how y'all justify minor / adult ships and feeling validated. they don’t just enact violence outside of the internet. they are real people who consume media just like you and me. those of you who ship children with adults share a space with actual predators
it’s also wild to me that y'all don’t think a pedophile could ever be an artist or writer. I guarantee you they are content creators you enjoy on social media. you’re giving them a space to safely express their interests and you validate their inclination to hurt real children when you promote “hebephilia” as healthy. every time you say “the technical definition of pedophilia is 13 years old and younger”, some adult freak feels better about being attracted to a 14 year old. saved by the bell huh!
you’re harboring actual predators, making them feel great about themselves, giving them a platform in fandom & the ability to harass minors into silence with that platform. it isn’t just desensitizing kids, it’s also desensitizing predators
just like white people felt justified in thinking of black people as all sorts of stereotypes (monkeys, mammies, pickanninies, unintelligent, biologically predisposed to being enslaved, etc) thanks to racist cartoons, justifying pedophilia in fiction is a gateway to them excusing harmful behavior in real life and actually doing it. if that should bother you

Hello all! If you see my artwork pop up on Amazon absolutely do not buy it! It is 100% stolen and I guarantee you it’s terribly made on top of being, well, -stolen- art. These theives are jacking my art (and several other hard working artists I know!) and coloring over the signature and slapping it up on Amazon. Dozens, possibly hundreds of people have bought from them already. Just know you are buying stolen goods :( If you see any please contact me. I’m honestly thinking about lawyering up or taking serious action as I have been fighting this Amazon theft for weeks (you report one store; several more pop up in its place like a hydra)
