Proposal for new fandom etiquette:
If you read a fic because it was linked/recced somewhere, you leave a comment saying "came from XXX" and that comment doesn't need to include anything else.
Because when all of a sudden there's a lot of activity on one particular fic I WANNA KNOW WHY!!!!!

Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'
She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.
Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?
Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.

no actually i don't think antivaxxers' kids should die from a disease. i don't think gun advocates' kids should die in school shooting. children dying is bad actually, even if they're children of people you don't like.

I saw a post going around a while ago (including from a non-US moot) about getting comfortable lying to law enforcement
Here's the thing. In the US.
DO NOT TALK TO LAW ENFORCEMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
If you are in a situation where you're lying to law enforcement, you are already interacting too much. STOP TALKING.
You can ask if you are free to go. You can keep asking.
Per the National Lawyers Guild, ESPECIALLY do not lie to the FBI. Do not say things to them that could be construed as lying. Those are serious charges. The best way around that is NOT TALKING.
In the words of the National Lawyers Guild: SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Civilian x villain where villain cheats on the Civilian with the hero
"I get it," the civilian said. "They're - I mean - they're your equal."
"You get it?"
"It must be a thrill to be with someone as powerful as you. Someone who can actually match you."
The villain stared at them. "I thought you'd be angry. I thought-"
The civilian's lip curled, not quite a smile. It was better than the squeeze in their chest that the villain so utterly didn't deny it. Not the cheating, no, but the mere possibility that the civilian could be their equal too.
"It was obviously a mistake," the villain said. "They're a mistake. A terrible idea." They crossed the room, reaching for the civilian's hands. "I love you. You're home."
"I'm safe."
"Yeah." The villain beamed, all soft, pressed a kiss to the civilian's head. "My safe place. My absolute sweetheart."
Maybe it was sweet, maybe it should have been sweet, but a fresh flood of bitterness burned the civilian's throat. They wanted suddenly to be a terrifying, terrible thing too. They wanted to throttle the villain. Slap them hard enough to make the villain's eyes water. Rake their nails into the villain's skin and rend and claw.
The villain pulled back, brow furrowing, no doubt as they registered how stiffly the civilian was standing in their embrace.
"You're upset," they said. "I'm sorry. It didn't mean anything."
"Am I supposed to feel better that you jettisoned our relationship for something that didn't mean anything?"
The villain didn't appear to know what to say to that. Their mouth opened, then closed. They had the sheer audacity to look shocked.
And, suddenly, the civilian really didn't want to get it at all. They wished they couldn't see all of the ways that, for all the mistakes of it, the hero and the villain were a perfect match. They didn't want to be understanding about it.
The civilian shook their head, jaw clenching and there - there, was the merciful anger.
"I'm not your bloody safe place," the civilian said. "I'm a person. Screw you."
"I didn't mean - I just meant -"
"-I'm the steady thing you get back to when you're done doing everything else you want to do? Certainty? Always just here for you. Always on your side!"
The villain's eyes darkened a fraction. "You know, I could have not told you about this."
"Congratulations on your moral high ground."
"Okay. Now you're just taking everything I say in bad faith," the villain snapped. "I don't want you fight you."
"Well, maybe I want to fight you!"
The villain barked a laugh, then seemed to realise that the civilian wasn't joking. They folded their arms. "You're upset. This is a lot to process, I get it. You need time."
"I don't think you do get it, no."
"You want to fight me?" The villain spread their arms. "Go on then. Have at."
But they both knew, didn't they, that there was nothing the civilian could do. They could hit and claw and kick but it would barely even leave a bruise.
The thought of them fighting the villain was absurd.
"Go on," the villain pressed. "Hit me. Will that make you feel better?"
"I think it would make you feel better."
"You're the one who wants to fight me!"
They ended up glaring each other down, which was at least better than the villain cuddling them with gentle kisses, like what they'd done was yet another crime that could be smoothed and soothed over.
"Really," the villain said, an edge to their voice. "You're fine with the murders and the theft when they pay for our life, but cheating. Oh that's where you draw the line. That's where you lose your shit."
"That's where you turn into a disrespectful asshole, yeah!"
"It wasn't even about you!"
That sat in the silence between them for a moment; squatting heavy on the civilian's chest like a demon come to steal their breath in the night.
Regret flickered over the villain's features for the first time. They dragged a hand over their face. Deflated.
"Are you breaking up with me?" they asked, quiet and measured.
"Maybe I am. Maybe I should. I definitely should."
The villain shook their head again. "You're not. That's - come on. It was one time. I love you."
"So you keep saying."
"Do you want me to prove it somehow?"
"I want," the civilian said, with the sense of a penny that had been falling for a very long time finally hitting the ground with an unforgiving smack, "to be with someone who views me as their equal."
The villain laughed again, slightly more strained. "What? Of course I view you as my equal. Why would you think I don't just because I cheated on you? What - you want a free card to go be someone else too? Fine. Sure. If that's what you need. Then we'll be even, right?"
But it wasn't about getting even, either.
The civilian turned away, heart lodged thick in their throat.
"Hey." The villain reached for them, catching hold of the civilian's wrist. "Don't let them take this away from us. We're good, right? You think this has been good, too?"
"They aren't the ones who took this away from us."
The villain's jaw worked. Their fingers flexed on the civilian's wrist.
"Let go," the civilian said. "Let me go."
"I love you," the villain said. "It's not - I can explain."
"I don't think I need you to."
"You don't get it," the villain said.
"Because it wasn't about me? It was about you. You and them, I suppose."
"It was just a mistake. A stupid mistake."
"Yeah," the civilian said. They disentangled themselves, gently, and felt some of their fury fade beneath the villain's expression. They cupped the villain's cheek and watched them sway in, and it felt like being wanted, but it didn't feel like power. "And this is just me walking away."
They weren't sure if it was proof of love or the lack of it that the villain let them.

I love how here on tumblr dot website we regularly cast the greatest curse we can muster on each other by pointing our long creepy fingers and intoning "10,000 notes" in a voice that carries the winds of the mountain with it.

Moly asked, "But why did the Bull run from her? Why didn't he stand and fight?" There was no sign of [the Bull] when they looked out to the sea, though he was surely too vast to have swum out of sight in so short a time. But whether he reached some other shore, or whether the water drew even his great bulk down at last, none of them knew until long after; and he was never seen again in that kingdom. "The Red Bull never fights," Schmendrick said. "He conquers, but he never fights."
