El cortesano perfecto

Personalmente me encanta el personaje de Jin GuangYao, para mi es la máxima representación del poder en MDZS ya que ascendió a la cima desde lo más bajo, y me doy cuenta que una de sus características que más le otorgaron poder en el camino fue su papel de cortesano, todo un arte que el domina a la perfección. Cuando los demás lo señalan de mentiroso, traidor o mala persona en general, en realidad es por esta cualidad, junto con un gran propósito que requería eliminar a cualquiera que se lo impidiera.

En un mundo extremadamente competitivo que gira en torno al poder en ámbitos de liderazgo y habilidades, el cortesano exitoso es aquel que triunfa de la forma más encantadora y agraciada posible. Es quien aprende a hacer sus movimientos de la forma más indirecta posible, clavandole un puñal en la espalda a sus enemigos con un guante de terciopelo y con la mas afable sonrisa. La “víctima” perfecta

Hola Fandom de MDZS en esta ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes un análisis-teoría mío acerca del personaje de Lan WangJi, todo es algo que yo me eh planteado así que no lo tomen como cierto pero es entretenido para mi xD Básicamente me puse a analizar la parte de los sentimientos de LZ por WWX, como sabemos ellos se conocieron a los 15 años en Gusu y 2 años  después se volvieron a encontrar, pero para ese entonces ocurrieron los acontecimientos de la cueva del Xuanwu donde LZ le canta una canción que nombró WangXian y que el mismo compuso, dando a entender que LZ ya tenía sentimientos por WWX. Sin embargo, lo que pasó en Gusu no fue como para que LZ conociera mucho WWX lo que me hizo plantearme que se "enamoró" muy rápido de el, teniendo en cuenta que también pensaba en él de ciertas formas (extra de incienso xd) entonces me hace pensar que quizá LZ ya tendría ciertas "tendencias" como para que se "enamorara rápido" pero no me refiero a tendencias homosexuales sino a otra cosa, que es justo lo que quiero analizar así que empecemos :)

Hace tiempo leí un libro llamado "El arte de la seducción", en este libro el autor nos plantea que toda persona, sin excepciones, siempre va a encajar en un perfil tanto para seducir como para ser seducido. Dentro de la segunda categoría existe un tipo de persona que el autor llama "El mojigato", que son personas que tienden a ser muy conservadoras, muy apegadas a los estrictos estándares y reglas que se consideran aceptables, y aborrecen a quienes van en contra de las mismas o se salen de lo establecido, entre otras cosas. Con esto yo me doy cuenta que Lan WangJi encaja perfecto en este tipo (ya que se pueden presentar características de mas de un tipo). Pero el detalle con este tipo de personas es que en el fondo les encanta de idea de poder romper todas esas reglas que tanto defienden, aunque claro, jamás lo van a decir ni mucho menos intentar hacerlo por su cuenta, ya que les asusta mucho esa idea. 

Según el autor, este tipo de personas pueden ser fácilmente seducidas por otras que principalmente poseen mucha energía o sean muy atrevidas (CofCofWwxCof), con tan solo entrar en contacto con ellas; si este tipo de persona te critica mucho de lo "incorrecto" que eres, es una clara señal de que le atraes.

Ejem, ¿qué se me viene a la mente...?

Los mojigatos caen más fácil por otra persona si se les da una oportunidad de "castigarlos".

Por lo tanto, los mojigatos se sienten atraídos por la energía de esas otras personas porque saben que con ellas pueden lograr romper esas reglas que tanto anhelan. Y una de las partes del proceso de seducción es fomentar las transgresiones (independientemente del tipo de persona). Otra cosa importante que menciona el autor es que "principalmente en la seducción, cualquier emoción es mucho mejor que el aburrimiento"; sobre todo si hablamos de un mojigato, el cual es adicto a la rutina, esta parte es esencial. Por ejemplo, ¿recuerdas las reglas de Gusu sobre los horarios para levantarse y dormir?

Es por eso que confirmo que Lan Wanji es en efecto un mojigato. Por lo tanto, cuando LZ conoce a WWX éste lo hace experimentar nuevas cosas que lo sacaron de su aburrida rutina: 

-Su anhelo de romper las reglas. 

-La sensación de ser señalado por los demás por hacerlo (recordemos la reputación que tenía como estudiante). 

-El sentirse fastidiado por WWX que hasta le hizo gritarle. 

-El asustarse por los libros de arte erótico de WWX. 

-El ser blanco de ciertos coqueteos de WWX, etc.

Todo esto no hizo más que meter a WWX dentro de su mente y "cuando una persona te tiene en sus pensamientos la seducción esta en su punto más crítico", y depende de ciertos factores para que pase a ser un enamoramiento o que te olviden para siempre. Entonces, Lan WangJi comenzó a prestarle atención a WWX por el tipo de persona que era, pero como encajaba perfectamente bien en su tipo incluso lo llego a pensar de otras maneras más íntimas (lo que se confirma en el extra de incienso xd) lo cual es la seducción física, y la seducción física es uno de los pasos mas avanzados de la seducción, por lo que para este punto ya sería casi imposible sacar a WWX de su mente y el efecto se intensificó a sentimientos románticos. Recordemos también que Lan WangJi practica mucho el arte de la meditación aislada para su cultivo, la cual hace que te centres mucho en tus pensamientos pero ¿qué era lo que tenia el en la mente? (Haha así es, los castigos del tío Qiren no iban a desenamorar a Lanchita, todo lo contrario XD)

CONCLUSIÓN Si yo pensaba que se "enamoro rápido" de WWX se podría decir que sí, pero no porque fuera amor a primera vista o algo así, sino porque WWX fue la personalidad perfecta que encajaba con lo que Lan WangJi necesitaba, o como el autor se refiere, la “víctima perfecta”. Sin importar que fuera hombre o mujer LZ reaccionaría a una persona con esa elocuencia algo salida de tono, la cual fue justo la de WWX y sólo de el, ya que ningún otro personaje de MDZS se le acerca a esa personalidad enérgica y mucho menos en mujeres. Es parecido a lo que dicen de "los opuestos se atraen" pero no lo creo así ya que ambas partes se tendrían que atraer al mismo tiempo y aquí solo fue LZ. Lan WangJi no encajaba para nada en el tipo de Wei Ying, por lo menos no cuando se conocen, y es por eso que a el le tomó mucho más tiempo enamorarse y aceptarlo (dos vidas lol). Pero eso es otro tema mas extenso que quiero analizarlo también porque se relaciona con lo mismo.  

Bueno hasta aquí mi reporte xd recuerden que es algo que yo me puse a analizar porque me es entretenido y me gustaría también saber qué opinan así que gracias por leerlo todo <3

Ash’s clothes in banana fish anime

Heey! How are you doing? I recently started reading Yasha and was surprised to find Sing in the story. I was wondering if you know other yoshida-sensei’s mangas that are connected to banana fish?

Hi! I’m fine, thanks for asking! Hope you’re doing well too! ^_^

So, there are three instances that I know of where Banana Fish characters either appear as secondary characters, or as cameos.

1. Ash and Eiji in  Lover’s Kiss (1995)

They appear in a cafeteria scene in the high school attended by the protagonists of the manga. I haven’t read it, so cannot provide you with more details, but that’s the only time they are ever seen.

2. Sing Soo Ling in Yasha (1996)

3. Again Sing Soo Ling in Eve no Nemuri (2004), stylised as Yasha : Next generation.

Without spoiling much, I can say that Sing is doing well, he’s an influential businessman and has a family with Akira Ibe, and they have a 16 year old son named Rie/Rietsu (manga version reads Lie-san). 

This is him, and he is one of the protagonists of this manga. This story line takes place in the early 2000s.

PS - I’m guilty of never reading either Yasha or Eve No Nemuri properly, I just skimmed over the pages and got an idea of the storyline. And of course, to catch a glimpse of my best boy, Sing :”D

Would you know the reason behind Ash's art style shift? Like, was it something plot-related? I'm an anime-only fan so I think this was something that happened only in the manga since Ash doesn't change his look in the anime.

And Oh boiiii you asked this at a very good time :’D

 I was thinking of doing a comparative study of Akimi Yoshida’s art style throughout the manga ( and her other works) for a very long time, since I was always wondering what made her shift the style around so much? 

I browsed through almost all of her available works online in a chronological manner, and what I found was that, she has the “same face syndrome” that a lot of creators unfortunately grow into. I’m not saying it’s necessarily a bad thing, but it does make you wonder about the relative variety of characters /tropes that an author uses to establish a certain distinction between their works.

I’ll elaborate it visually here (this list includes Yoshida’s most popular works over the years, I have excluded multiple works published in the same year) :

Tell me, do you recognise the characters that look virtually identical to Eiji or Yut Lung or Ash (or I can even spot someone who looks like Ibe-san above), in her other works?

If I was a new reader who was completely unfamiliar with Yoshida’s works, I’d have practically no idea which manga I was reading if the titles had not been previously clarified, simply because all the characters looked essentially the same across her works. This fact hit me even harder as I was hunting for pictures from all the above titles.

There’s a clear pattern here : all her early works, until Banana Fish, had art that was softer, rounded, with fluffy hair (I’m sure this is due to the contemporary fashion trends at the time).

Banana Fish is where her art changed. This manga ran for over a decade, and during that time, Yoshida didn’t essentially produce any other major works, and quite obviously so.

In Banana Fish, we see the art change form rounded, pretty, childlike features, to a more rugged, hardened, and flowy look, as typified by the longer hairstyles, sharp jawlines, strongly arched eyebrows, and more billowy clothing, with bold, stark lines and circulating between a specific set of expressions on the characters’ faces.

Since you’re an anime only fan, I’ll elaborate here, that Fly Boy is a prequel to Banana Fish and contains Eiji’s backstory. Angel Eyes and Private Opinion are also prequels and have Ash’s backstories, also including Shorter and Blanca. All the three can be read beforehand, without worrying about spoilers.

Garden of Light is an immediate sequel to Banana Fish, and contains *MAJOR SPOILERS* so don’t read it unless you finish the manga / anime.

Now, as for the changes in appearance of Ash and Eiji, I’ll put the following compilation :

I’ll also include excerpts from interview of Akemi Hayashi (the character designer) and Hiroko Utsumi (the director) about how they approached the changes in design and animation from the manga style, to fit into the contemporary setting:

(Like I said in my previos post, I find the art style in the middle volumes (roughly vols 9 - 14) most pleasing, and the art designers also chose the earlier ones as reference.)

And about Eiji :

So, now you know why the anime has consistently kept to a single design choice, and it makes sense, because, the whole timeline of the manga barely covers a year and a half. On the other hand, from the perspective of a mangaka, it’s only natural that their style will evolve over such a long span of time and that the characters will look and feel different in the two media.

I personally, appreciate both the styles equally. I’ve seen a lot hue and cry over “why we’re not getting the nostalgic 80′s feels and etc etc”, but I support the changes is design and time frame. You have got to admit, that Banana Fish is a work that will be relevant no matter when and where and in which format it is adapted, because of the universal nature of the themes and issues that it deals with. So, a modern setting is unique in itself, with the added benefit that it has drawn in a huge audience of new fans, including myself, because of how unique that first impression of it had on me. ^_^
