Hypothetically no longer hypothetical. I'm a raging socialist, and I've been on the internet longer than some of you whippersnappers have been alive. US-centric since that's where I live, but I try to pay attention to international politics as well. We're all on this space rock together.they/them, biosciences/engineering background, asks and submissions welcomeFollows/likes/replies as @dreamerinsilico

So only two out of the three Tennessee representatives who protested gun violence were actually expelled from the state legislature… bet you can’t guess which two…!
Tumblr media
Shocking!
But what is actually shocking is that these two democratically-elected representatives each have about 78,000 constituents whose voices have now been silenced by extremist Republicans who think that they don’t deserve a say in their own state legislature. That is not democracy!
DONATE HERE to support Justin Pearson and Justin Jones in upcoming special elections where they can win back a seat in the legislature.

Hear it from the representatives themselves:
Justin Pearson speaks out on the right to protest
Justin Jones responds to his expulsion, calling out the other legislators who have not been expelled for doing actual crimes

Michigan Democrats have had a truly incredible afternoon: they’ve ended the state’s anti-union “right to work” law, repealed an abortion ban from 1931, enacted universal background checks on gun sales, and passed an LGBTQ anti-discrimination law. All in the last 24 hours

LANSING, Mich. — Democrats in Michigan pressed ahead with a torrent of liberal measures on Wednesday, the boldest assertion yet of their new political power since taking full control of state government this year for the first time in four decades.
In the course of a single afternoon and evening, and despite loud objections from many Republicans, the Michigan House of Representatives voted to repeal a right-to-work law loathed by labor unions, expand background checks for gun purchases and enshrine civil rights protections for L.G.B.T.Q. people in state law. On the other side of the Capitol, the State Senate voted to repeal an abortion ban that is unenforceable but still on the books. Some of the legislation must still be voted on in the other chamber, and all of it would have to be signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, to take effect
The rapid-fire votes were possible only because Michigan Democrats narrowly won a trifecta — control of both legislative chambers and the governor’s office — in last year’s election after spending much of the prior decade on the lawmaking sidelines.

Anyway, here’s a news article about it.  (Whenever something makes me facepalm this hard, I definitely look it up.  But uh, yeah.  S’a thing that happened.)

Conservatives literally want to be able to own whatever firearm they want and be able to mow us down with impunity so much so that when they can’t, when we too are armed they react like this fucking idiot

1. Thank fuck Georgia went for Warnock again (albeit barely  -.-)
2.  I suppose it’s too much to hope we’ll stop talking about the election 24/7 in the next couple of weeks.

Still having a whole-ass set of feelings about how the Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs has been covered in the news.  Over and over again, they quote the owner about how they meant to provide a safe space for their community.  But literally none of the news outlets I watch/read/listen to have bothered placing that in its ironic and painful context.
This is an attack on our spaces.  We’re not meant to feel safe even where we’re among our own.  We can put our own money and sweat and blood on the line to make a place for ourselves, and here come these assholes to ruin it.
.
.
I opened my door today to a canvasser for Warnock.  She had traveled from fucking Arizona to help with this election runoff in Georgia.  Having done door-to-door canvassing myself, I was delighted to tell her that yes, I would be voting, I knew where, and I would be voting for Warnock and urging everyone else I knew to do the same.

Ok as someone from KY…. Why this username??? Just why?
xD It was the most "peak Tumblr" URL I could think of when I was clowning around with a dear friend and discussing Tumblr culture and politics. He urged me to see if I could get this exact URL, and well, I could. So I did. And now I've decided that yes, I do want to be political on main, actually, so this blog is going to get some real use.
Why did I think of "mitch mcconnell's moldy dong" specifically? Because he's pretty much THE reason we now have a conservative supermajority on SCOTUS, owing to him refusing to go forward with confirmation proceedings for Merrick Garland during Obama's second term. I guess I could have just as easily gone with something very derogatory about Lindsey Graham (I no longer live in SC but did until quite recently), but to be honest, Moscow Mitch was the first one I thought of, and that's all there was to it.

The comments on this post have been amazing.  I love this stupid website.
Mjowlnir is feeling very loved and appreciated, as is her due.  I gave her extra head-kisses for the people in the notes.  <3

I will, in fact, pay money to find out if Blaze is rejecting me for my username or the content of the post I tried to promote.  Anyway, please enjoy this picture of Mjowlnir.
