In 1960, pioneering American artists Sol LeWitt and Eva Hesse met for the first time and became close friends. In 1965, Eva found herself facing a creative block during a period of self-doubt, and told Sol of her frustrating predicament. Sol replied with this letter.

Front, detail, and back side of #diy #kintsugi Buddha statue. I found the statue broken in pieces on the patio at work and saved it from being thrown out. I knew I wanted to try my hand at kintsugi, a Japanese art of repairing broken objects with gold joins, a philosophy of recognizing the beauty in broken things. I could only guess at what the statue wad mage of, so I used Elmer's pro bond advanced glue because it bonds multiple surfaces including concrete. I also love that it is non-toxic and cleans up with water. I mixed gold embossing powder in with the glue. Then I went to work putting the pieces together. The weight was enough pressure to hold the statue together, so I didn't need to "clamp" anything. I simply left the statue in place to dry. I really love how it turned out!

What happens is the bottle enters an elaborate global system within which its plastic is sold, shipped, melted, resold, and shipped again—sometimes zigzagging the globe before becoming a carpet, clothing, or repeating life as a bottle. This process is possible because plastic is a stubborn substance, which resists decomposition.
With a presumed life span of over 500 years, it’s safe to say that every plastic bottle you have used exists somewhere on this planet, in some form or another.

It probably says a lot about me, that I am almost as excited about the green bubble wrap as I am about the the glue.
