Start helping with citizen science projects

What's a citizen science project? Basically, it's crowdsourced science. In this case, crowdsourced climate science, that you can help with!

You don't need qualifications or any training besides the slideshow at the start of a project. There are a lot of things that humans can do way better than machines can, even with only minimal training, that are vital to science - especially digitizing records and building searchable databases

Like labeling trees in aerial photos so that scientists have better datasets to use for restoration.

Or counting cells in fossilized plants to track the impacts of climate change.

Or digitizing old atmospheric data to help scientists track the warming effects of El Niño.

Or counting penguins to help scientists better protect them.

Those are all on one of the most prominent citizen science platforms, called Zooniverse, but there are a ton of others, too.

Oh, and btw, you don't have to worry about messing up, because several people see each image. Studies show that if you pool the opinions of however many regular people (different by field), it matches the accuracy rate of a trained scientist in the field.

I spent a lot of time doing this when I was really badly injured and housebound, and it was so good for me to be able to HELP and DO SOMETHING, even when I was in too much pain to leave my bed. So if you are chronically ill/disabled/for whatever reason can't participate or volunteer for things in person, I highly highly recommend.

Alola, Zee!

Apologies for the lack of content on my account, a lot of stuff has happened!

Over my time at the bog, that's a tough one...

Also it's a bog, not a swamp. I know they kinda mean the same, but mistaking the two may lead to feraligatrs and woopers sharing ground!

Now then, I'll go with ol' mutton chops. Basically, there was this guy who showed up at the bog, proper tweed jacket and Wellingtons, didn't even talk to anyone, and released a shiny palafin into the bog.

Like, bro, there's a river right there, just take a 5 minute walk north and you're gaming. And also like, a fucking shiny palafin? Without a pod?????

So, I caught the fella, named her Fossey, and managed to find a shelter that'll take her. Hope she's OK.

Although, if you're looking for a good story, look into kitakami. It's a small county around johto and kanto known for its quaint atmosphere and rich folklore. I even heard tales of an extinct pokemon still clinging to life, whatever that means.

Secondly, I'm moving!

While I love that bog with all my heart, the management did not have the wildlife's best interest at heart. Cutting through the lawyer-talk, they were more worried about keeping a population for new students instead of keeping them in their natural environment. No wonder why they teamed up with Blueberry academy.

But that's neither here nor there, so I packed my things and went off to new horizons! After keeping my ear to the ground, I got wind of a rather exciting project in Alola. After a surge of trainers catching popplio for competitive battles, the populations numbers have been dwindling over the past years. Not only that, bycatching and marine litter from wishiwashi fishing leads to strangulations of not only popplio, but also migrating finizens!

Long story short, I've partnered with the Alolan Divers Marine Life Rescue Center to become a Marine Mammal medic! I'm actually on the boat to Akala island now, I'm quite looking forward to the new challenge! I have cursory knowledge of finizen and their fascinating evolution, but ill need training for the Primarinas! Arc, I might even get to further my studies on the nature of poison type pokemon!

I'll try to write when I can, but I'll have my hands full!

Howdy there!

Blimey, it's been a bit, huh?

I think it was November when we last spoke, right? Well, a couple of things have came up, so I just wanna check in and explain everything.

So, I had just finished up my sneasler report. From what I gathered, their saliva produces a potent neurotoxin that paralises the target, which leads to the sneasler getting a quick meal. However, sneasel and sneasler do not possess teeth capable of breaking skin, only grinding meat. This means they cannot bite down on their foes, like seviper, arbok and surprisingly scrafty (don't ask how i know that).

So, if it's not via bite, how do they inject venom?

Well, due to trace amounts of venom found on a hisuian sneasel's claws, it is my understanding that they lick their claws to get venom on them, then go in for the kill. This leads me to believe sneasler uses their venom to avoid using further kinetic energy to dispatch prey, due to their environment of snowy peaks forcing them to get the most bang for their buck.

Now, that's all well and good, but I'm a conservationist at heart; I need to learn a lesson from the extinct animals. How can this lesson apply to our other venomous mammal, grafaiai? Well, unlike grafaiai, that is revered as an omen of death, sneasler was seen as necessary and even useful part of hisui. Long before they went extinct, they were revered as something close to gods. This meant predation was a non-issue, up until an abrupt climate change.

Long story short, there has to be a cultural shift when dealing with grafaiai, teaching people that these critters harbour no ill will... well, not that ill of will

Apologies for the wait, I have a few projects I'm bouncing around at the minute. I've barely had time to progress my little passion project! But, if you still have the notes, I'd be more than happy to have a copy!

As for these odd dreams, how familiar are you with the God's "Darkrai" and "Cressalia" (gods I hope I'm spelling that correctly). They both appear linked to old hisui, even making their homes at clamberclaw cliffs and moonview arena! From what I know, they both have the ability to bend the dream world to their will, making people and pokemon dream what they want. If I'm correct, perhaps one or both of your pokemon have turned their gaze to you?

Oh boy, this is gonna be something.

Hi there, Master Clive! It is marvellous to hear from you, I've heard much of your academic achievements. I'll tell you what, it's not easy assisting in the construction of the STC's, overseeing a team of six pokemon, all while doing brilliantly in your studies is no easy feat!

I'm writing to you for your assistance, as I've recently ran into a hurdle I believe you can assist with. You see, I'm currently studying the extinct Sneasel found in old sinnoh. To give you the just, I'm looking into venomous mammalian pokemon conservation (how mammals become venomous, why there's a lack of venomous mammals, what we can learn from Sneasel's extinction), with the focus of learning from our mistakes and ensuring the survival of the only other venomous mammal (grafaiai).

I just about have all my work in order, but I've recently been unable to study the preserved remains (it's rather difficult to find a complete or even partial skeleton of living mountain-dwelling beast).

Now then, that leads to my question. Do you know if Naranja-Uva Academy has any remains of such a specimen? As far as academic facilities go, this academy is my best chance. If so, do you think I could study it?

I know this is a lot for a student, but getting in contact with the director has been rather difficult. I'm not exactly the best with tech. And besides, if anyone can talk to him, I know it's you.

Sadly, though I’ve been having some funky “hi-definition” dreams about old Sinnoh recently, I’m afraid I don’t know about any particular Hisuian Sneasel we have. I can push a survey to our students though, in an effort to see if anyone has that beast! I’ll also put in a word with Raifort. Or… hm. I may know another source if you’re seeking only remains, but that would require permission. And some digging through a dusty lab. “LMK” what you think and we can take a look!

Bro, I am THRIVING.

Fire is really easy to make when it doesn't rain a lot, food is plentiful thanks to crabrawler, slowpoke and lechonk, not to mention the sheer amount of berries. I can pass the time by researching everything from crabrawler kleptoparasitism to the link between high amounts of food and evolving, and I can make a quick shelter by caving out some brush.

This wouldn't be me deserted on an island. It's a holiday
