The moon sees you and smiles. She is so glad that you made it through another day. She hopes to see you through another night.

i’ve been having dreams i don’t remember and i’m sick with tenderheartedness. my teeth catch all the time on the yellowed edge of a certain memory. i’ve been saving up moon facts to tell you, such as:
did you know the moon’s center of gravity is offset in the direction of earth by about three kilometers?
i lost a blackhole somewhere in this house. it used to live in the bedroom ceiling, and then it moved to the basement stairs. i can’t find it anymore, but it keeps me company:
the moon’s crust is asymmetric, which could indicate that the earth and the moon were once associated.
i think i took a smooth spindle and spun time to a filament, and all the apples have fireblight, and daylight savings ended two days ago so add an extra hour when you do the math. except i think only i have been doing the math, have been doing the weaving, and the pruning:
when the moon gets nearest to the earth in its perigee, the earth’s tides cause moonquakes deep below its surface. this is called tidal stress.

Valerio Minato's photo that won the Astronomy Picture of the Day Contest by NASA on December 25th, 2023.
In the picture: the moon, the Monviso Mount and the Basilica of Superga (on the Superga hill) outside Turin are all aligned. it took him 6 years to take this shot (and I take it as an example to never give up on your dreams).
