Going through old photos and realized how far I’ve come on my mental and physical health (but especially mental - the physical follows) There’s probably about a 30 pound and seven year difference between these two photos. I did not post to ask which you like better. I’m posting to remind myself of how far I’ve come. In that picture on the left, I was so fucking sad, literally enveloped in my own depression and anxiety. I was in Miami that weekend being told how beautiful I was and getting my hair and makeup done so professional photographers could take pictures of me. Yes, I guess from the outside I seemed happy. But I was self medicating so much and I honestly hated myself. I thought that I was better off dead than having my loved ones deal with me and my mental issues. I barely ate. I drank so much that weekend that when I had to get routine bloodwork that Monday, my liver function was off. I was living in a world where I thought I could cover up my sadness with drugs and alcohol and honestly, I was barely surviving. On the picture on the right I finally started following the tools of countless counselors and other professionals to learn how to love myself. I found cannabis and take a lot less pharmaceuticals that I’ve ever been on in my adult life. I eat, and I eat well. And healthy too. Because I love my body and want to take care of it. I don’t hate myself anymore, and I try to nourish and care for myself daily through healthy foods, exercise, animals, nature, love and family and friends. I rarely drink, and if I do, it’s only a drink or two not ten to twenty so I can feel better about myself around other people. I do not need the validation of others anymore. I’m posting this because I just wanted to show you that there is hope. Mental illness is a constant daily battle that some of us fight every, single day. There was a time where I dreaded waking up and never looked forward to living. Now, I can honestly say that I am excited to see what the future holds and where the day takes me. Can I do a women crush Friday? Well, I don’t care I’m doing it. Several years ago, I decided I wanted to get more into cannabis activism. I insta-stalked/connected with like-minded individuals, one of them being @wowashwow 😍 She allowed me to volunteer at events (s/o #phillysmokesession !) and from there I was hooked and knew I wanted to do something with cannabis and changing the perception of this amazing plant in the minds of the public. That is why last weekend with this incredible women was so great! I’ve always looked up to @wowashwow and still do and am so happy to have someone like her in my life.
