Heyya I’m kinda new here and…OMFG I love your stories!!!
I read SP and then I found more???
I came across the reverse isekai and was wondering-is that like a dead one or you still updating it? I would love to see previews of that
Anyway again love everything that you wrote and the drawing 👌👌👌🤌🤌🤌❤️❤️❤️❤️ ✨ ✨✨✨✨
That is a part of my Adventures of Simpbad Collection. It's a bunch of shorts that may or may not get 2nd chapters etc. I do have a bunch more I've wanted to make for the Reverse Isekai AU. I might get another chapter finished for it while working on the current SP arc. We'll see what happens

If no one got the Magi fandom we know Mori got the Magi fandom
In Mori we trust raaaaa
Gosh I hope so! I found out the other week that people are still discovering my fanfic by doing a Google search for reference art and my art is all over the results. I'm honored that my fic is so beloved that it shows up like that, but also I'm very sorry to everyone looking for references. At least I use the anime Bible and manga as references so I draw everything as accurately as I can;;;
I know I keep disappearing for medical reasons, but I'm still here even when I don't have spoons to respond in anywhere near a timely fashion. I have a back log of asks I'mma try to get through
I hope y'all are doing okay and still enjoying Magi

So I've left my fics unlocked on AO3 because I have a reasonable amount of guests who read and comment, but I have to say the spam bot abuse is getting worse. Like, really really bad.
My latest chapter of Parasite got 5 abusive spam comments. And although I roll my eyes and delete them because I know they're rubbish and I'm confident that I'm a decent writer, it makes me really worry about newer writers, because some of this stuff is brutal and cruel.
Please please please combat this by leaving positive reviews for your writers on their work, especially if you know they're new to writing - it doesn't have to be long! A smiley face or a heart, tell the author that you enjoyed it or loved it, or quote your favourite line. Something to combat these abusive nasty bot comments.
We are going to lose new authors to this. We will. And it's not fair that people pouring their heart and souls into writing might only be getting these comments.

Hey, I have a question about the paper ın your fıc. Do you think Mori will create plant-based paper? (I would assume that all of the paper created during that period was made from animal skin) Since paper was invented in 105 AD in China, it might be something that Kou invented, but we never learn about it because there is not a lot of world-building. I don't know if there is plant-based ink and colored ink as well, but this is just an idea I got from watching anime.
You have activated my trap card!!!
I have done a ton of research on paper both before I started working on this fic and even more afterwards to both try to place Magi's time period (a fools errand) and to figure out what type of paper each country would have. Allow me to explain some of my journey through this subject:
As it turns out, Magi is not set in a specific time period. My og starting guess was around 1000AD/CE because China started printing paper money around then and it caused huge problems with inflation like shown in Magi's Balbadd arc. I did notice that some people from the Kou had outfits based on dynasties hundreds of years off from each other, but I thought that was just for aesthetics. Then I remembered that Reim is based on The Ancient Romen Empire which ended before 500 AD/CE. And then I remembered Princess Dunya from Mustasm has a boned bodice in a style that wouldn't exist until around 1500 AD/CE. And then I learned that both Partevia and Sassan are both based on Persia just several hundred years a part. I started noticing that most of the countries in Magi are based on a mix of a few countries from different time periods too.
So with that enriching deepdive not getting me an easy answer on paper (pun intended) I start looking up the individual countries' history with written language. The short answer is that since Sindria is a tropical island and the written language they are using is an Arabic one, I will be going with plant based paper and inks.
The much longer version is:
Sindria is far away from the rest of the world, so even though it is a center of trade I don't think they could have all of their paper as parchment and therefore imported but they would have some for the most important records to protect from the humidity. The island is also small so leather based paper isn't really sustainable there for production.
Regrettably, I haven't found much on early paper on tropical islands or similar areas (except for specific countries and I don't want to generalize that far). I have seen some things talk about plant pulp and fabric based depending on the region. Most of the sources I've found talking about the medium for early written languages in the tropics tend to focus on how things were when European or American explorers and merchants ruined everything which leaves a huge gap in understanding. Even though those did specify plant pulp and cloth based papers, I wanted to do my due diligence before making a final decision.
So I went back to my research on the written forms of Arabic that I had from learning about how they fought against the concept of the printing press because the people selling it to them were swindlers. Anyway! From what I've found on early written Arabic, it was carved onto leaves. In researching that I learned that you can pretty accurately guess the material a written language was original written on by looking at its structure. Written languages that started as carvings on hard substances like stone and clay tablets have a lot straight edges because it's much easier to carve straight lines on ridged materials. Inversely, written languages that mainly consist of curves were carved into plant matter. The structure of the plant veins and cells in leaves specifically makes it easier carve curves lines.
Written languages that evolved to ink or stains early in development often have curved and straight lines as well as versions of the characters with both types of lines because the writing implement was more important than what it was written one. Whether using something ridged like a stick or reed, or flexible like a brush you can make both straight and curved lines easily because what really matters is how you can move your hand. Of course sticks are better at straight lines and brushes are better at curves but both can do both easily.
That being said, I have already written sections of Mori using parchment (animal hide based paper) as well. Those were the scrolls carried over from when they left Balbadd. I've been kind of lazy and a coward about commitment when it comes to the paper most of the scrolls in Sindria are made from so I have been conveniently avoiding mentioning any techniques that I know only work on one but not the other. Mori was able to use an ink knife to edit the Fate Scrolls etc because they were from Balbadd, and I had figured Balbadd would use parchment before I did more research on Arabic languages and switched to plant based.
And lastly -and probably the most important- my dad worked at a paper factory as an engineer to make paper for different purposes when I was little. I got to make paper from nearly scratch with him and we used plant pulp to do it. And Lyly does a ton with cotton paper which is obviously plant based and the rant about it to me a ton Since I actually have some direct experience with this type of paper this is the type I'm going to use.
---
So onto inks! Coal, charcoal and plant based inks and pigments are older than the written word. I won't get into the history of all the inks and pigments I've studied too much because this response is already long. Just as I have done a lot of studying on historical ink making because of being into reenacting and art history, Lyly also has studied a ton on inks because of their love of history, and their practice of water color and ink art. I will talk about all sorts of pigments and dyes in the fic because I have some restraint on how much details I add and close to zero self control on sharing what I've learned from my hyperfixations.
But for responding to this question, the main type of ink for writing in Sindria is plant based. It has both the type made from cooking down plants, and the type made from ash/charcoal (India ink). The charcoal will most be made from coconut shells and other scraps depending on the use (cooking vs writing etc). They will have access to brown, red, blue and green pigments based on historical records. And I'm giving them the rest of the rainbow because anime. The only color that does not seem to exist in Magi from both the manga covers and anime color pallt is the teal - turquoise range (the space where green becomes blue). They do have cyan (light blue) but it is very different to me.
Btw, plant based inks and dyes are made by cooking plants down, filtering, and cooking again and again, fermenting the plant, or just letting it soak in water (depending on the plant and strength of ink you want to make). And adding a binding agent and preservative. Since they retain their organic properties (instead of being reduced to carbon like charcoal) there is a risk of it going moldy before it's finished or used. The process of making plant inks is kind of like a controlled rot that can get messed up really easily. Me and Lyly have tried to make ink from ink berries a few times but we haven't managed to keep them from getting moldy before finishing the process. (I need to do more research to figure out what we're doing wrong asap because the berries will be in season soon for us to make our next attempt. We might just need a better binding agent or preservative. Related side tangent: Plant inks can have really strong odors that seep into wherever they are made so I can't deny making some bad decisions just to avoid the potential scent from getting stuck in the kitchen. (Can't be any worse than sumi ink tho lol))
Early inks and dyes were browns, desaturated reds, grey and black made from plants and charcoal. Think cave paintings. Some browns and reds mixed together could be deluded or faded into a sepia yellow orange. Blue and green existed since around 3000 BC/BCE as seen in art from ancient Greece, Egypt, India, etc etc etc. The blues were made from powdered stones and minerals like lapis lazuli, indigo and cobalt. And different greens were all copper mixed with other minerals.
The ink making room I explained around chapter 20ish was based on my research of historical ink processing and a historically accurate room for that exact process that I got to see as a reenactor -all for around 1700-1800 AD/CE.
I got way too excited to ramble all that when I saw the notification on my phone. I haven't had as many opportunities to write let alone info dump recently so my mind & body were ready XD I hope that answered your question and maybe gave you some jumping off points to do some more research of your own? :3 (learning is fun :D)
I am sorry to everyone I still haven't responded to yet. I have drafts for everything in my current in box but I just have not had the time needed to make them right -especially the one that's turning into an art tutorial
Anyway it's after midnight now so I'mma go crash into dreamland

The 2025 Gender Census is now open!
[ Link to survey ]
The 12th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 30th August 2025.
It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
Thank you so much!

#gender census#I've been doing this for a few years now. My first year it intro'd me to neo pronouns etc I hadn't heard of before

i am definitely seeing a surge of ai fics and to the new people in the fandom who generate it, slap some tags and post it, i have something to say to you. i won't be mean just listen for once. i am sure you're aware that fanfiction is a hobby. but it's so much more than that. it's art. the creative process of coming up with a plot while you're doing the most random thing, maybe on your way to work or just taking a shower. the excitement you will building up the story a little by little in your head. the inspiration you feel when you hear a song or see a picture that totally feels like something you can write from. the fun of playing around with different aus.
oh the stress of following synonyms, verbs, tenses and finding the right word to use instead of "said" (we've all been there) the whole researching process of this one term that is irrelevant to the plot but important to one dialogue you're writing. the sadness, anger, love, joy, excitement you feel of your characters. and don't forget the adventure and fun of weaving words into a beautiful story. for others, but most importantly, for yourself. no one forced you to write fanfics. that's why whenever you write one, you are it's most important audience before anyone else.
see? this is the feeling you will never get out of generating with ai. what's the fun in putting in a pompt and copy pasting it for the world to see for 15 minutes of fame? that is not art and that is definitely not something that belongs to you. you stole it from a thief itself. that makes you worse than the thief no? whenever you're generating ai fics, you are robbing yourself of that fun and adventure. of course i cannot stop you from doing it if that's what you have decided to do. but for what it's worth, i hate to be the bearer of the sad news but you're never going to evolve creatively or even learn to have a hobby if at the end of the day your sitting in a room with your closest companion which is not your mind but ai. that's a pretty sad way to live. think about it.
and to end it, guys, if you do see an ai fic, i highly encourage you to report or block the content and author and call them out so others know. we cannot let this take over a community we, people with genuine love for fanfics and fanarts, built.
