I couldn't tell you why, but when I think of him I just imagine that he can and will stick whatever he can into his mouth (he can totally eat non-foods like it's nothing)

(My) Beej gets along with most ghosts, especially the Maitlands, but he's well aware of how powerful ghosts/demons are and prefers to keep them away from Lydia at all costs

Its hard to do because she just loves the supernatural -- a death-obsessed goth like herself couldn't be anything less

If he just outright said that he didn't want her to play with Ouija then she would get mad, accuse him of being a bad friend by trying to keep her from what she wants (a response she's learned from dealing with Charles trying to suppress her emotions about her mother), and likely try to hide her activities from him

He deffo wouldn't phrase it so clearly, but he'd vaguely understands that that's what would happen, so he tries to figure out roundabout ways to keep her from summoning strangers, like acting needy and attention-seeking and/or stealing the planchette and running off with it or threatening to eat it

I'd call it demonic-brotherly concern with a fear of confrontation

Unlike the cartoon my Lydia is very emotionally volatile, much like Beej, because she's just starting to recover from her greif and is still "coming down" from her rebellion, plus the slighly anarchist characteristics that I would imagine she learned from Emily

Basically, he's being annoying cuz he's worried....

Beej won't allow Lydia to have one (she loves how ugly they are) cuz he's territorial and "won't have that weak-ass demonic Cabbage Patch Kid reject" in his house!

This looks great! Bravo for hand-replicating my drawing, very impressive work! Honestly, I think those colour would work fine if they were a bit.... stronger? Watercolour is hard to make dark and solid, but the hue is not bad, it's just lacking some value.

Actually, this looks pretty similar to my Alex Brightman-specific version of musical Beej!

I get a lot of people complementing my design, but I always wonder what my Beej would look like if someone else coloured him

Afterall, there's so many other Beejs out there, and they're all so different

I'm going to leave a transparent template of my Beej below, and, if anyone wants to, you can download it and colour him in (like a coloring book :þ )

I'm actually so, so curious so please please please, if you think this sounds fun, do it

I'll add my palette too, so y'all can compare after

After about 2 years, I have finally redrawn one of my fav drawings of Beej with his most recent design :)

This came out so well, and I deffo think you can see my improvement

My goal was to keep the background the same because I've always loved the look of it, but to redraw Beej from scratch in my current art style

Without further ado, I re-introduce the Beetle Bandit!!

I'm done with this for now,,, I like the idea of a Hazbin/Beej crossover, but I don't have the time for a comic rn

Can you please draw Beetlejuice (musical) interacting with Charlie Morningstar? I like to think about what would go down if BJ tried to redeem himself at the hotel

This was actually a really fun ask! Somehow it spiraled out of control and turned into a whole comic strip?! See, I think, in the situation where he ends up at the hotel, that he wouldn't necessarily try to redeem himself (he hasn't actually done all that much wrong/sinful, and I'm sure the Maitlands/Deetz would forgive him anyway), but he'd probably be there accidentally. He'd end up stranded there and have to rely on Charlie's kindness. He'd end up playing along with Charlie's redemption program anyway, but it's more like a way for him to learn how to behave and make friends than it is about him redeeming his sins...

This is part 1/2. The second half is coming soon :) Ironically, I do already have a Hazbin demon design for BJ!

Are your designs for the Beetlejuice Musical Characters based on a certain performer for each one?

There have been many different actors in these roles.

The Original Broadway Production, The Broadway Remount, The 1st National Tour, as well as numerous Understudies and Replacements

Uhhhhh, more or less.... I was actually obsessed with the musical for about a year and a half before I ever got my hands on a bootleg. I started interacting with just the soundtrack, before watching clips of the live performance on YouTube. I ended up falling in love with Alex Brightman and Sophia Ann Caruso.

I ended up finding three different bootlegs and watching them all, and watching some vids of different BJ's and Lydia's, but my favs will always be the main guys from the official soundtrack recordings; Brightman, Sophia Ann, Leslie Kritzer, Adam Dannheisser, Rob McClure and Kerry Butler, etc. I used them as reference.

When I designed my guys I actually based them majorily off the musical with little bits from the cartoon and the movie, as well as some if my own personal flair.

First, I decided to stray away from using black, my original designs had black for both Lyds and Beej, and it made it hard to parse out detail because the line art didn't stand out enough. My Beej is based loosely off of Brightman, but I transposed my own shape language on him, made him a lil wider and more box-y. I made the eye mask because all 3 BJs seem to have marking around their eyes. I stole the finger tips, undershirt, and purple skin from the cartoon. I leaned into the movie a little more for his personality, made him a little more chill-asshole instead of a raging asshole :Þ Lydia is majorily based on the musical, but I gave her the Netherworld outfit from the cartoon, and plan to design her an outfit based on the movie too. As far as I'm concerned they live in the house from the movie too.

As with Adam and Barbara, I tried several designs based off the movie and just couldn't make it work, too hard to repeatedly draw, too difficult to simplify the palette in a way I liked, impossible to combine with the musical. So I have Adam from the movie and Babs from the musical, but I still put them both in green cuz I don't wanna have to draw stripes AND checkers.

I hate movie/cartoon Charles, so only musical Charles. Delia wears an outfit from the musical as her main, but I'm gonna intersperse some in from the movie, and I shortened her hair like the movie. I had an idea to give her pink hair like the cartoon, but I was out-voted for the classic orange.

I loved the idea of Juno being Beejs mum in the musical, stole that. She doesn't even exist in the cartoon. I ended finding a good mix between the musical and the movie (its easier to mix two things than three). Red pearls + white pearls = pink pearls. Red suit + grey suit = muted-sort-of-burgundy suit (Wine Dregs #673147)? Then I just made her a little matchy with my Beej :)

That's all I have so far! I changed them all drastically, but at their cores I imagine them like the cast from the soundtrack. Hope I answered your question :)

This is my design for Delia and Charles! This is for my lil AU that I have going on which is primarily based on the musical with some of the other stuff sprinkled in, but I really really REALLY hate the movie/cartoon version of Charles, so I straight up ditched them for musical Charles <3

I'm actually only using the version of Delia with the orange hair, but I made one with pink hair too -- based off the cartoon -- so I thought I'd share that too

This is my version of Juno! I combined a lot of stuff from the musical and the movie, then put my own lil twist on it

I like the idea of her being Beej's mum, so that rings true for my Beej also, and, in typical fashion, she is awful to him

Almost definitely gonna add a bit more to her design later, buuuut I probably won't take anything away, so I feel good about sharing this version (keep an eye out for any upgrades next time you see her)
