Something that has always interested me a lot about Musicaljuice specifically is trying to figure out who or what exactly he is.
Let me try to explain...
In the movie, the rules of the Netherworld imply that everyone who has passed away was once a human at some point in time, Beetlejuice included.
While we still don't know much about Moviejuice's past, we at least have an idea that he is a several-hundred-year-old ghost with demonic powers.
While I would consider Moviejuice to be more of a demon in terms of power, I would definitely consider Toonjuice to be more of a demon overall (as in both power and physicality).
The Neitherworld was designed in a way where while the associations of death are occasionally there, it acts more like an alternate realm of otherworldly creatures rather than a full on realm of the dead. Most likely done to make the show more appropriate for its target audience. This makes Toonjuice feel more like a creature as a result.
And then... there's Musicaljuice - a consolidation of both ideas merged in a way that gets... kind of confusing?
We at least know that in the musical, Beetlejuice has never lived in the past, thanks to The Whole "Being Dead" Thing. That would mean that Musicaljuice is a bit more adjacent to Toonjuice, in this case.
This now just begs the question - What exactly makes a demon in the musical?
From this point onward, I will be getting into more non-canon/theoretical territory-
In the earlier stages of the musical, Juno was originally going to be called "Mrs. Shoggoth". A shoggoth is a fictional monster in the Cthulhu Mythos.
If you follow the idea that Juno and Beetlejuice's last name is always intended to be Shoggoth, and that it implies that they're Loveraftian-like creatures in some way, then this adds a whole new layer of interesting...
Lovecraft's monsters were described as creatures unlike anything a human being has ever seen. Creatures beyond our comprehension. If this is the case, then what does that make the Shoggoths...? Where did they even come from?
I don't think we'll ever know for sure what exactly Beetlejuice is intended to be in the musical, unless... y'know, they decide to expand upon it via some form of post-musical media? Like a cartoon?
Right now, the idea that Beetlejuice and Juno are these strange, unknown beings genuinely intrigues me.
From everything I have found so far, it wouldn't be far fetched to believe that Beetlejuice, the way that we know him, is only a masquerade of his true form.
A strange, unknown creature hiding under a human-like skin.
At least... that is my headcanon.

Chapter 2: Another Business Proposal
Tumblr media
As soon as Lydia vanishes into the kitchen, you turn to the inside cover of the book to check the list of targets. Etched below Charles and Lydia is another pair with matching surnames: Adam and Barbara Maitland.
You find it a little odd for a second family to be in here. For all you know, this could be a haunted boarding house and Juno’s sent you to evict a happy couple on vacation.
Or more blood relatives.
The next name, “Schlimmer, Delia”, does seem to add to the boarding house theory, as well as the one on the bottom, “Shoggoth, Lawrence Betelgeuse”.
That last one causes you to wrinkle your nose involuntarily.
How the hell did someone with the weirdest middle and last name you’ve ever seen end up with a name like Lawrence? Come to think of it, why is their middle name specified at all? Guess those’ll be questions to ask before you stab them in the back.
You flip back to the section you were working through, and you’ve found that stress is not an experience exclusive to the living. As you desperately skim through the words, trying to make sense of all the theorems and rules, your brain feels like it’s going to catch on fire.
You’re clutching your throbbing head, trying to wrap it around the difference between complementary and supplementary angles, when you hear a deep voice clear its throat.
Standing before you is Charles Deetz, wearing a concerned expression.
“...Are you alright?” he asks.
You’ve clearly passed the point of hiding your breakdown. You shake your head, teeth gritted.
“Let’s see what we have here.”
He calmly offers a hand and takes the book, but his brow furrows as soon as his eyes scan the pages.
“Ah. I’m more of a…realtor than a structural engineer,” he admits, sheepishly.
He hands the book back, and gestures to the seat to your left. You pat the couch cushion, and he sits down with a groan.
Charles sighs.
“Seems like everyone’s suffering through things they don’t talk about, nowadays. Lord knows we’re all familiar with that here.”
He chuckles, but there’s no mirth in his breath. He’s fidgeting with a simple silver band on his left ring finger.
“I can’t pretend to understand what you’re going through, but I was young and taking jobs I couldn’t handle, too.”
You barely stop yourself from letting out a bitter laugh, yourself.
Charles turns to face you in earnest. As you take in his rigid posture, unflinching eyes, and ink-black suit, you realize you’ve switched from talking to Charles the father to Charles the businessman, now.
“At the rate this is going, I don’t think you or Lydia will be gaining anything but migraines from this session. I can pay you for your trouble and send you home right now, and I assure you I’ll do my best to make sure you aren’t fired. But the bottom line is, this is your decision.”
Before you can come up with an answer, you feel a pulsing sensation in one of your hands.
The one that shook Juno’s.
You quickly glance to your palm to find that there are glowing red markings scrawled all over it.
Charles clears his throat, bringing your attention back to the situation at hand.

Haunted Hearts
by WildHarlow
So maybe he was a bit lonely. Fine. Moping about it wasn't going to do anything. He'd work on the songs, he'd finally write his hit, and everyone else could eat their fucking words. That was, until she showed up.
-
Lawrence Shoggoth is officially kicked out of the band, and out of New York in general. When his real estate mogul mom, Juno, offers him the victorian house in Connecticut, it's a last resort. Freshly moved in, he's going to find his muse and work on his soon-to-be-famous solo album. Little does Lawrence know, he's not the only one in the house. It might have been forty years since Lydia Deetz died there, but that does NOT mean she had to share it with some himbo with a guitar.

1. What do demons fear most? They are afraid of control or the loss of it.
2. What is the most important thing for a demon? A demon's true name is the most important thing, because whoever knows its true name has power over it.
3. Juno Lillith had a son with Beelzebub Shoggoth out of pure vanity. When everyone discovered the name "Betelgeuse" because of her, he was rejected by her father. She wanted to kill him, but realized that she would lose everything if she did. Her greed led her to rule the afterlife. Although she had the opportunity to have a powerful son, the firstborn of one of the twelve infernal princes, she ended up siring a stillborn demon. She hates and mistreats him, projecting her own mistakes onto him so as not to face how flawed she is. .
4. Juno Lillith trapped Beetlejuice in limbo after her name, Betelgeuse, was used in the "afterlife bigwigs" power struggles. This action made him unavailable to them. Beelzebub's plans were originally to place Beetlejuice as a general in his army.
5. All children of demons are governed by an aspect of the parent. Beetlejuice represents the hunger for chaos.
6. Honey, on the other hand, represents [missing information].

The biggest issue I’m having with my cursed bride AU is pinning down a backstory for Beetlejuice. I’m really stirring up the cannon here, stealing bits and pieces from all 3 sources, plus sprinkling in my own for funsies. I just can’t decide if I want to go more movie based, with being around 600 years old, hung himself, worked for Juno thing. Or the DC run born dead, immortal, demon bit. I do know for sure I’m dropping the Juno as his mom plot line because I think it’s stupid. I am using the Shoggoth last name from DC, and I do have thing scene planned around his dad. However dad could very easily be turned into “being he sold his soul to” if I want to lean more on the movie.
