Photography Exploration

Often I find myself saying,

“I just know mud! I’m just a potter!”

Which yes technically is true, inherently limits my creativity. So why limit myself to just one medium? Here is my short exploration of photography! I spent a week in rural North Carolina, dragging my grandmother around little America photographing anything and everything I thought look vaguely similar to painting or illustration compositions!

I really enjoyed this exploration; if you want to challenge yourself to maybe look a little closer at the current world around you I highly suggest it! I gave myself a week to complete it!

The Challenge if you so choose:

Take 10 photos in one spot, capture an entire 360 around you.

Look through the photos and critically analyze its visual interest! ( look for shapes/ lines that have been drawn organically across the page! ) toss any photo that don’t utilize the rule of thirds or just don’t look interesting to you

Spend 30-40 minutes editing the saved photos! Make different versions of them, utilize the different filters and raw edits that can be done to make a photograph come to life!

Kayla (2002) is an accomplished ceramic artist based in Virginia who earned her B.A. in Studio Arts from Christopher Newport University. She specializes in storytelling by skillfully merging her passion for illustration with 3D visual art. With inspiration drawn from nature, whimsical elements, and the theme of self-love, Kayla aims to share her personal narratives, encouraging others to discover their own unique paths.

I will not let fear stop me, through hardship and suffering I will march towards my goal. I have 3 major goals:

I will open my own studio, creating a community for artist to share and support one another.

I will post my journey. I want to showcase my path so that others can walk with me whenever they need a shoulder!

I will give myself grace. I am young, I’m bound to make mistakes.

And with these 3 long term goals, I hope to not only better myself, but give myself the chance to show the world my work! Even though it’ll be a small uphill climb, I’m excited to share this process with you!
