"Geoff," Otto yelled, looking at what looked to be a mangled body. It was more chunky flesh and blood than a distinguishable person anymore. The boy kept it together, but the moment Geoff scampered over to the scene, bile burned his throat. "Is that... him?" "Hard to tell," Geoff replied. The smell was putrid. Aside from a few fake Halloween decorations, he had never seen innards torn apart like that. He couldn't hold his stomach anymore. He puked. "Ah-fuck." "Do you think we lost him?" "You sound way too fuckin' calm about this, Otto." "This is the third body on campus so far. I'm not exactly phased by it anymore. Call the police, Geoff. God forbid this is our Awsten." "I hope not." — — 

Awsten had been missing for well over four days. It hadn't even been three weeks since the fall semester started, and Awsten had disappeared. The kid was a goodie-two-shoes. No parties, no drinking, no drugs. Studying was his main priority. He'd often study so hard that he'd become a ghost to the people around him. Even his roommate, Otto. If Otto hadn't taken him through the woods, maybe everything would have been fine. So much for stupid college football games. He swore he knew a shortcut, Otto did. It would be faster to take that old, abandoned hiking trail behind the bleachers after the game. It beat needing to walk a couple of miles to get back to the dorms. He thought Awsten had been behind him, he swore he was. It only got frightening when he realized it was his own feet that were crunching the dead leaves. Awsten had been gone. No scream, no yelp, nothing.

— —  "Don't beat yourself up over it, Otto," Geoff spoke, pacing the dorm room. "He'll turn up eventually." Geoff tried to be the more optimistic one, but it was hard to do that when Otto was overrealistic. "He's lost in those woods, Geoff. Whatever's been leaving those bodies behind has either got to him or is about to get to him. I got him killed!" "You didn't know!" "That doesn't mean it was any less of my fault." There was thudding from the hall. Heavy steps accented with rubber dragging against the carpet. A soft, yet tired and miserable groan was audible as it grew closer and closer to the door before it got slammed open. There he was. His blue hair was stained red, glasses were cracked if not fully broken already. His body was scraped and bruised covered in fluid that was definitely not his own. He hunched over with a gurgle, a mix of bile and blood spilled from his lips before he collapsed. "No," Otto bit down on his bottom lip. "No way." "Awsten," Geoff muttered, crouching next to the boy who had collapsed in the dorm room. "Hey buddy, are you awake...? Or alive, even?" Groooaaaannn~ "Otto, call an ambulance." "Yeah, alright.. just-" "NOW!"
