Oscar Predictions
This award season is about to come to a close.  On Sunday, February 26th  is the 89th Academy Awards!  La La Land has scored 14 nominations and it holds the record with other films that earned 14 nominations including All About Eve (1950) and Titanic (1997).  I am so thrilled and happy it scored 14 nominations.  If La La Land does not win in any of these 14 categories that it is nominated for, it will sure shock audiences.  Meryl Streep has earned her 20th Oscar nomination for Florence Foster Jenkins. Many were shocked to see Amy Adams not nominated for Best Actress for her outstanding performance in Arrival which is shocking!  I totally agree, she deserved the nomination.  Even Taraji P. Henson was snubbed for her inspiring performance in Hidden Figures.  Another major surprise and snub was Finding Dory for Best Animated Feature which was one of the biggest hits in 2016.  My favorite late night host, the hilarious Jimmy Kimmel, is hosting.  Since I made my predictions for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, I thought I would post for the Academy Awards as well.  I listed my predations and my “Wildcard” choices which should be winners that may surprise everyone.  I included picks of who I want to win so check out the link below.  The major categories are listed as well as technical categories.  Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to see any of the nominees for “Best Foreign Language Film of the Year”, “Best Documentary Feature”, “Best Documentary Short Subject”, “Best Animated Short Film”, “Best Live Action Short Film”, so they are not listed.

MTV Movie Awards Predictions
Tomorrow night are the 2016 MTV Movie Awards!  This is the award show that lets movie fans vote for their favorite movie(s) in all different types of categories.  This year I struggled with my voting.  To my surprise MTV did an excellent job with all the nominations.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens has 11 nominations, Deadpool has eight nominations, Avengers: Age of Ultron has 6 nominations, and the list goes on.  Last year’s host, Amy Schumer, is nominated twice for Best Comedic and Best Breakthrough Performance in Trainwreck.  Hopefully, we will get to see Amy show up and enjoy the show with her BFF Jennifer Lawrence who is also nominated for her role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part-2 and Joy.  Not too sure if Jennifer will be there.  Kevin Hart, who received the Comedic Genius Award last year, is host the show with Dwayne Johnson.  They’ll be starring in Central Intelligence which hits theaters this summer, June 17th.  Melissa McCarthy who’s nominated for Best Comedic Role and Best Fight in Spy, will be honored with the Comedic Genius Award. This is the first time a woman has won the award.  I’ll be watching and celebrating the show from my nice, comfy couch.  My sister will probably be blasting the TV since Ariana Grande will be performing as well as Halsey. Also, Will Smith will take home the Generation Award.  If you haven’t watched before, it’s worth checking out.  It’s a crazy, wild, star studded and funny award show that’s toned down without all the fancy ball gowns.  It’s just like all the major big time award shows…so now I have to post my predictions.  Below are my predictions on what and/or who will take home the award(s).  I also listed my “Wildcard” pick which is a winner that may surprise everyone, as well as, my pick on what and/or who I voted for. Oscar Predictions
Yes, people the weekend has finally arrived for the Oscars!  I can not wait to watch.  Actor, comedian, and director Chris Rock is hosting.  This year is very controversial.  It’s the second year the Academy did not recognize color in any of the major categories and it has sparked major attention due to the lack of diversity.  Back in January when the nominations were announced, the hashtag #OscarSoWhite was trending all over Twitter.  Some celebrities are planning to boycott the Oscars including Will Smith, Jada Pickett Smith, and director Spike Lee.  People like Kate Winslet are not boycotting.  At the London premiere of Triple 9, Winslet was asked about the boycott and commented that her longtime friend Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his performance in The Revenant.  She said, “He is my closest friend in the world and I just couldn’t imagine not being there to support him.”  Not only Kate, but everyone is rooting for Leo to take home that precious award he worked so hard to achieve.  Kate is nominated for her performance in Steve Jobs and another reason why she is attending is because it was an extraordinary year for women.  She told the BBC that, “I’d feel like I was letting my side down if I didn’t go, I think those are reasons enough really to show my face.”
So in honor of the most glamorous nights of the year, I present to you my predictions for the Oscars. I also listed my “Wildcard” pick which is a winner that may surprise everyone, as well as, my pick on what and/or who I want to win.  Enjoy the show!

My Thoughts on #OscarsSoWhite
Alright, I just want to make something clear to you all, it’s Saturday morning 6:00 a.m.  I’m sitting at my computer because my excitement for the Oscar has finally begun.  Knowing we are just a few hours away, I think this year is very controversial for the Academy Awards.  This is the second year the Academy didn’t recognize color in any of the major categories and it has sparked major attention due to the lack of diversity.  Back on January 14, 2015 when the nominations were announced, hashtag #OscarSoWhite, was trending all over Twitter.  Many celebrities are planning to boycott the Award show including Will Smith, Jada Pickett Smith, and director Spike Lee.  I know this was a topic of conversation, but I didn’t think it would spiral out of control.  Knowing how far all this debate talk has become is driving me crazy. Everyday ever since #OscarSoWhite entered my social media life, I’m reading and watching constant news reports and articles about the issues.  Now, after just sitting over the computer and scrolling through my phone it has driven me to the breaking point where I can’t stand this talk anymore.  Is it wrong not to recognize someone because of their skin color?  Well, the Academy should have recognized other races and it’s good to know that changes are being made so that it will be more diverse in years to come.   However, I think it has gotten a little to far by encouraging people to boycott the Awards.
It’s an Award show people let’s all remember that.  I understand it would be nice to be recognized, but again its just an Award show.  I love seeing all my favorite stars/people who received a nomination(s) because they deserve it.  It would have been great to see Ryan Coogler recognized for directing Creed. I didn’t have the chance to check out Straight Outta Compton, yet it was one of the best reviewed movies of 2015 and writers of the movie who are both white are nominated.  The talent that was presented this past year was unbelievable and it was hard to pick the best of the best.  Also, primarily the movie industry is white and male so it’s really not diverse.  So with all the controversy surrounding it, we all need to look at what the movie industry has become.  In an article in the Los Angeles Times they took a study and found that most Oscar voters are 94% Caucasian and 77% of that is male.  So not just race is an issue, but gender.  Where are the fierce female leaders in this whole situation?  We see great female leaders in the movies.  Why aren’t they in Hollywood or even recognized by the Academy.  23% of the Oscar voters are women.  Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max:  Fury Road and Emily Blunt as Kate Macer in Sicario showed true female power.  This does not mean that I’m not happy seeing Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet, and Rachel McAdams all being nominated.  I thought all the woman in the supporting and leading roles all gave outstanding performances.  Not even the Academy, but Hollywood isn’t giving female directors a chance to shine. Personally, I believe Theron and Blunt portrayed characters that were inspiring.  What about the female directors working in this business?  Why isn’t the Academy recognizing them?  It has been six years since Kathryn Bigelow won her Oscar for Best Director for The Hurt Locker and to this day only four women have won an Academy Award for Best Director.  Besides the Academy, Hollywood not only needs to consider race, but gender equality.
Now, encouraging people to boycott the Oscars is way to out of hand.  The Oscars is a classic, old fashioned Hollywood Award show and you don’t want to miss out seeing all of your favorite stars.  It’s supposed to be a fun night just celebrating movies.  Seeing celebrities blow off the Oscars is just over thinking things and acting immature.  However, I do have a little theory that since Will Smith was in Concussion and gave a performance that was well received let’s say he may have been just a few votes away of receiving an Oscar nomination, but didn’t make the cut. Smith was only nominated twice in his career and hasn’t won.  In fact, his last nomination for an Oscar was back in 2007 for The Pursuit of Happiness.  As for his wife Jada, she has never received a nomination.  I hate to be a rude, but Jada are you a little jealous?  On the other hand, Spike Lee has received two nominations over his career and was last nominated back in 1998 for a documentary, 4 Little Girls.  He directed Chi-Raq back in 2015 and maybe he thought this movie was his Oscar nominated movie.  Yet, Lee is receiving the Honorary Award this year.  Shame on him for boycotting the Oscar.  Personally, if I were in charge of giving out this Award and I heard that Lee was not going to be there, I would take the Award away from him.  I can think of countless other majorly talented people who would be honored to receive this type of Award.  What if they are just boycotting because they didn’t get a nomination or it isn’t the right recognition?
People of color and everyone this year can look forward to watching the Oscars.  Funny man, Chris Rock, will be hosting the show and for sure he’ll be discussing and poking fun at the controversial subject.  Fans of the singer The Weeknd will be happy to see him sing his nominated song, “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey.  Yes, I know what you are thinking, that movie has a nomination???
As I wrap this up and express how I feel, I just want to end by saying one final thought.  The Smith’s and Spike Lee are boycotting the Oscars, sooooo who will be sitting in their seats?  I’m just a down to earth normal person.  Hey Oscar -- can I please have Jada’s seat?!?!

Dirty Grandpa
In one week, Jason Kelly, a lawyer (Zac Efron) will be marrying Meredith Goldstein (Julianne Hough) a control freak and also the daughter of Jason’s boss.  Tragically, Jason’s grandma passes away.  Dick (Robert De Niro) tricks his grandson, Jason to drive him down to Daytona Beach to party and have an outrageous good time. The movie also stars Zoey Deutch as Shadia, Audrey Plaza as Lenore, Jason Mantzoukas as Pam, Dermot Mulroney as David Kelly, Mo Collins as Officer Finch, Henry Zebrowski as Officer Reiter and is directed by Dan Mazer.
I’m pretty sure everyone had a blast making this movie which is not dirty or fun it’s pure idiotic. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I though it was actually funny.  After seeing the trailer a couple of times I kind of got tired of it in theaters and seeing it advertised on TV and my expectations for the movie were lowered every time.  This movie is not funny and is loaded with offensive jokes like poop, sex, and fart jokes. Yes, the movie resorts to fart jokes. The writing for this movie is entirely lazy, all over the place and the humor is misplaced.  John M. Philips wrote the screenplay for the movie that is just pure garbage.  The director, Dan Mazer has co-produced and co-wrote some of Sacha Baron Cohen’s movies (Ali G Indahouse, Borat, and Brüno) and this movie a mess.
Tumblr media
All of the characters are unlikeable.  Zac Efron is a great actor, but his agent is horrible and needs to fire him ASAP.  He is terrible in the movie.  There’s only one funny scene that is in the trailer also showing Efron doing the Macarena in a thong, otherwise nothing in the movie Efron does is funny.  It’s not only Efron’s worst movie EVER, but De Niro’s as well.  Robert De Niro is one of the greatest living actors in the universe and wastes his time and talent on this ridiculous movie.  De Niro is so painfully unfunny I felt bad for him. Watching all of the stupid stuff he says and does will surprise you.  Let me give you some examples.  De Niro goes around saying the F word constantly, says the N word, and watches porn using certain materials.  There’s things De Niro does, but this should not have been a movie for a legend like him to be casted in.  There’s absolutely no chemistry between Efron and De Niro it’s just awkward.  Even Efron’s love-interest in the movie Zoey Deutch has a little chemistry but really didn’t fit well.  As for the supporting cast it is all equally obnoxious and all I wanted to do was pull my hair out every time Jason Mantzoukas as Pam showed up!  It’s just all nonsense!
This is one movie you should avoid at all costs.  There are other small happenings in this movie that bothered me, but they were so tedious it’s a waste of my time to explain them.  By the way the movie is 1 hour and 42 minutes too long so don’t be idiotic like Efron’s agent and see this movie.
I give this movie a “D-“

The Revenant
Set in the 1800’s, a professional and skilled frontiersman, Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), is working with a hunting group under the command of Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson).  Hugh gets caught in a monstrous bear attack, nearly dies and can’t continue to help out the group due to his condition.  John Fitzergald (Tom Hardy), Jim Bridger (Will Poulter), and Hawk (Forrest Goodluck) stay behind to watch over and take care of Hugh until he dies and they can give him a proper burial.  John decides to kill Hugh’s son, Hawk and leave Hugh to die.  Hugh ends up surviving and makes a decision to seek out revenge.  The movie is inspired by true events and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
If you loved the Academy award, winning movie Birdman, also directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, then you will be amazed with The Revenant.  It already has 12 Academy Award nominations.
Tumblr media
Leonardo DiCaprio already received an Academy Award nomination his role and I’m sure this will be the year he will take it home.  Sure DiCaprio has been in other movies that should have won him an award, but he is still a gifted and phenomenal actor.  DiCaprio doesn’t have a lot of dialogue in the movie, grunting and mumbling most of the time, but aside from that, DiCaprio gave a masterfully, raw performance.  DiCaprio really pushed himself for this role even eating real, raw bison liver.  I know DiCaprio is a committed actor, but in this movie he’s VERY committed.  What’s also precious in the movie is bond Leo shares with his son.  The father and son relationship is captured so beautifully in the movie, it’s more than heartwarming.  DiCaprio has great chemistry with his son played Forrest Goodluck. This is the second time DiCaprio worked on a movie with Tom Hardy.  They first worked together in Inception and Hardy received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.  It was really good to see him get nominated and he gave a performance that was great.  Hardy is an actor who’s just born to act and both DiCaprio and Hardy continue to be actors with great careers.  Also, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter both give magnificent performances.
Tumblr media
This movie is exceptional and nothing like anything I have ever seen before. Alejandro González Iñárritu did not make a movie, he made a piece of cinema.  Iñárritu captures the beauty and terrifying side of nature.  When I was watching the interview of Iñárritu and DiCaprio on the Today Show, they said that the weather would get below zero and the camera wouldn’t work.  To make it look even colder, DiCaprio put wax on his beard to create the look of icicles. I actually had to sit with my coat wrapped around me watching because it gave me a chill.  Whenever DiCaprio was able get warmed up, I felt relieved. This movie is mostly MAN VS. NATURE and the movie does get violent.  As for the bear rape scene everyone is talking about it’s beyond scary once that bear steps onto the screen.  As Leo got attacked by the bear, I felt the pain because it looked so realistic. The opening sequence is one huge mass murder scene to help capture all of the madness that happens in the movie. It has a superlative score by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alva Noto, and Bryce Dessner it’s so well crafted it flows perfectly in the movie.  It all sounds dark yet it’s flawless
Tumblr media
Emmanuel Lubezki has won two Academy Awards and now he might win his 3rd for this movie. If you thought Birdman was a beautiful movie, let Lubezki blow you away with his work in this movie.  There are so many gorgeous shots of high mountains and roaring waters.  What’s really incredible is that they used natural lighting…the sun was their light, no studio lights.  It’s unbelievable how they just used the sun.  In the movie, just like in Birdman you will notice flawless single shots where the camera just moves precisely.
This is just a warning to you all, but not everyone is going to like this movie.  Some people might find it slightly boring at times, however, I strongly recommend you see this movie.  The Revenant is another exceptional piece of art work done by Iñárritu.  The movie will have you cringing in your seat.
I give this movie “A+”

My Top 11 Movies of 2015
2015 was a huge year for movies.  We’re into 2016, but there were a couple of movies released in 2015 I didn’t see and I saw a couple of movies late that’s why this post is later than I planned. Better late than never, let’s jump back to 2015 and let me share with you my top 11 movies of 2015.
Huge Honorable Mentions: The D-Train, Joy, Black Mass, Cinderella, Burnt, The Stanford Prison Experiment, The Hateful Eight, Everest, Creep, Trainwreck, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Spotlight, and Southpaw.
11) The Walk
Robert Zemeckis took me to the skies with this movie.  The visual affects in the movie were amazing and pays tribute not just to Phillippe Petite, but to the Twin Towers.  As for the star, Joseph Gordon Levitt, he did a great job as Petite.  The movie was inspiring and felt like it was made for dreamers.  Seeing a movie like this that was rated PG and is a feel good movie, you just want to kick back and grab some popcorn with your family.
Tumblr media
10.) The Big Short
Director, Adam McKay, took the subject of the world of finance and how the 2007 stock market crash came about so interesting.  The movie is funny and to fun.  It has some awesome comedic performances from Steve Carrell, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling.
Tumblr media
9) Steve Jobs
A magnificent story of one of the most brilliant minds, Steve Jobs. This was Michael Fassabender’s best role ever with an outstanding supporting cast.  Director, Danny Boyle and screenwriter Aarow Sorkin did not disappoint delivering not just the tradition biopic.
Tumblr media
8) Inside Out
This Pixar movie is bright, vibrant, and fun, one of the best since Toy Story 3.  It really hits on all your emotions and “joyful” comes to mind.  I certainly was laughing and shedding a couple of tears. The characters were sweet and absolutely darling.  This movie is not for just for kids and families, it’s for everyone to adore.
Tumblr media
7) Sicario
Dennis Villeneuve is an extraordinary director and this has to be one of the most violent movies he has ever directed.  This movie shows what goes on at the Mexican border and it’s more than just dangerous! The movie is gripping and Emily Blunt gives her best performance, but Bencio Del Toro was just incredible. Roger Deakins delivers with beautiful cinematography.
Tumblr media
6) The Gift
By far this movie is one of the most under-rated of 2015.  Seeing the movie was a huge surprise.  It was highly intriguing and Joel Edgerton did a phenomenal job not only starring in the movie, but directed and wrote it too.  I can’t forget to mention the great performances from Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall.
Tumblr media
5) Creed
What a knock out this movie was!  An awesome job from the directors, Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, and composer Ludwig Göransson.  However, it was Sylvester Stallone who won the gold in this movie.
Tumblr media
4) Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Going to see my very first Star Wars movie was exciting.  I loved all the new characters including Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac), BB-8, and even the villainous Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). What was even better was seeing the characters that were there from the beginning.  J.J. Abrams took me on a journey that was full of fantasy, action, and imagination.  Everything in the movie was exhilarating and one movie that I can’t wait to watch again and again.
Tumblr media
3) The Revenant
Alejandro González Iñárritu has once again created a beautiful piece of cinema.  Everything in the movie is just astonishing from the cinematography, to the score, to the remarkable storytelling.  I could not believe what I saw and I loved it. Leonardo DiCaprio gives a raw and extraordinary performance and Tom Hardy was unbelievable.
Tumblr media
2) The Martian
This movie was Cast Away on mars.  Ridley Scott really impressed me with this movie and has to be one of my favorite movies he has ever directed.  The movie was so engaging and entertaining it was a lot of fun to watch.  This is not just a sci-fi drama, but also has a bunch of comedic moments.  Matt Damon was fantastic and also has a tremendous supporting cast including Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Donald Glover, Jeff Daniels, and I could go on about how many other people in the movie who just killed it.  It’s really Matt Damon who nailed it in this movie. The music in the movie has a psychedelic soundtrack and happens to be my #1 favorite soundtrack from a movie in 2015.
Tumblr media
1)    Mad Max: Fury Road
One of the most insane and wildest movies I have watched in a theater, my jaw hit the ground.  George Miller, who is 70 years old by the way, made one of the best action movies on the planet.  Another movie released in 2015 starring Tom Hardy as Max, not only is terrific, but the hero in this movie is Charlize Theron as Furiosa.  She was stupendous!  This movie is just brilliant and its tops with a remarkable score by Junkie XL, but also has wonderful cinematography by John Seale. No other words could help me describe how much I loved this movie and how epic it is.

The Walk
On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit amazed people when he walked across the twin towers.  Director, Robert Zemeckis, now brings the creative artist’s journey to the big screen.
High wire artist, magician and entertainer Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) loved performing and wowing people.  Philippe would juggle, ride on a unicycle, and do all sorts of crazy stunts to get an audience to smile.  Soon, Philippe is dazzled by a new dream, to walk on a tightrope wire between the north and south towers of the World Trade Center. With the help of a young beautiful musician Annie Allix (Charlotte Le Bon) and Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley) and a few other friends, Philippe pulls off the larger than life stunt. The movie also stars Clément Sibony as Jean-Louis, Ben Schwartz as Albert, Steve Valentine as Barry Greenhouse, Benedict Samuel as David, César Domboy as Jeff, and James Badge Dale as Jean-Pierre/J.P.
This movie is incredible and Man On A Wire is one of my personal favorite documentaries, I usually don’t have the chance to see a lot of them.  If you really enjoyed the documentary Man On A Wire I suggest you check out The Walk.
Tumblr media
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was tremendous in the movie.  Petit had a passion for this art and he wanted to look up, be amazed and remembered, not wanting to be famous or anything he didn’t want that at all. People were having a very hard time listening to his French accent, but it really didn’t bother me.  I thought he really did a phenomenal job paying tribute to Philippe Petit and I don’t think there’s not other actor who could play this character.  Levitt as Petit truly had the edge of my seat.  The movie does have moments where he does talk to the character and explain what he’s thinking.  Some people might feel bothered by it, but Charlotte Le Bon as Annie Allix does this tremendously well and I love her and Levitt in the movie.  They have a really great love for one another and you see that her character genuinely cares for Levitt in the movie.  Charlotte Le Bon is someone to watch for in the near future.  Ben Kingsley is terrific in the movie even though he isn’t in it for the entire movie he is still really great along with his crew.
When I heard the news Robert Zemeckis was directing the movie I couldn’t believe it.  I thought what a perfect director, Zemeckis will not disappoint.  I was highly invested in the movie the entire time.  The movie builds up tension each time Levitt moves on to the next step and especially the last half of the movie.  Despite what everyone was saying about this movie I really didn’t have any major problems or thought about any flaws.  Sure, it may be clichéd, which I wasn’t bothered by, but you know what is going to happen.  If the director can give a story with a strong screenplay with great actors, camera work, visual effects, score, and message it will all be fine by me.  Just like how Inside Out was a fun movie for all ages to enjoy so is this movie and The Walk is a simple story for many young audiences to be amazed by.  As for the score, this is the 15th movie Zemeckis has worked with Alan Silvestri and when I was listening to it, it felt like I was watching an espionage movie.
Tumblr media
The visual effects were amazing, but it’s exquisite.  Personally it might have been very little noticed at times, but this movie took me away to the skies.  The last part of the movie is incredible especially if you see the ending in 3D or if you see it in IMAX 3D like I did, you will be amazed.  When you see the Twin Towers, they are portrayed as another gigantic important role in the movie.  When you watch Levitt walk between the towers your mind is instantly astonished. You’re sitting there thinking, this is dangerous and how is this man not falling or dead?!?!  The visuals have a spectacular impact.  When I saw this movie with my Dad in IMAX, he was grabbing on to the seat and holding on to my hand.  I thought he was going to lose his equilibrium.  We sat in the middle in the last row in the back of the theater.  All around were kids just about 6-years-old and were also gasping in their seats because they couldn’t believe what they were seeing.  The cinematography is just radiant in the movie and a polished cinematographer, Dariusz Wolski makes it all come to life.
The movie has an awesome message about not giving up on your dreams and your goals.  This movie made me feel inspired about not giving up on your dreams and goals.  This is also a feel good movie and it really put a huge smile on my face when I was watching it.  Philippe Petit is one person, not adults but young kids should be inspired by and this movie plays great homage to him and his achievement.  The Walk was everything I wanted and it was beyond magnificent.  Awards don’t matter, but it at least deservers more recognition this award season.  I was pleased to say that I can’t wait to watch it again.
I give this movie “A”

Spotlight
Spotlight is about a group of investigating journalists from the Boston Globe.  During 2001, Marty Baron (Liev Schreiber) gave the spotlight team the most shocking and terrible subject they had ever been given to investigate, the allegations of abuse in the Roman Catholic Church.  Uncovered were decades, years of abuse by priests and other members of the Church regarding molestation and alleged sex abuse cases with more than 80 males.  The movie was directed by Tom McCarthy and also stars Mark Ruffalo as Mike Rezendes, John Slattery as Ben Bradlee Jr., Michael Keaton as Walter ‘Robby’ Robinson, Rachel McAdams as Sacha Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci as Mitchell Garabedian.
Spotlight will shock you to the core.  Walking into this movie, I didn’t know too much about this story.   I only knew it was about a group of journalists investigating the Roman Catholic Church regarding the molestation of young boys - that’s it.  I was about 6 or 7 years old when the Spotlight team was investigating this horrifying issue.  Yes, I am Roman Catholic and yes, I go to Church, but I was young when this was going on. I thought you were always suppose to feel safe in your church, sanctuary, mosk, etc., but who knows what goes on behind the walls, doors all around you.
Director, Tom McCarthy did an exceptional job with his movie.  One of McCarthy’s first movies I saw was Win Win that was excellent.  Back in 2015, The Cobbler was released and that was a huge flop.  Spotlight is a totally different movie, engaging and McCarthy did an amazing job that it’s no surprise the movie is nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Tom McCarthy wrote the movie along with Josh Singer who co-wrote.  The screenplay for the movie truly builds up the tension.  All of the information the team finds haunting and it left me gasping in my seat.  Every time a new victim came forward to share their story, you got a very uncomfortable feeling (and I’m sure a lot of people felt as I did).
As for the cast in the movie the ensemble for this movie is remarkable as well as their characters. Reporters often get a bad rap, but in this movie the characters want to get the right story and be honest. Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, Billy Crudup, and Stanley Tucci are all fantastic.  I personally believe there were two spectacular performances, the first one being Mark Ruffalo who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Rachel McAdams gives an exceptional performance.  To me I felt that was her most powerful performance and now she has a Best Supporting Actress nomination.  All of the actors in movie have an excellent chemistry and they don’t outshine one another.
Spotlight is a movie I highly recommend everyone to see this award season, “a must see”!
I give this movie an “A”

Spectre
James Bond (Daniel Craig) finds a mysterious cyptic message while he’s in Mexico City.  After some investigating it leads him to a villainous organization called Spectre (the title of the movie) and led by Franz Obenhauser otherwise known as Ernst Stavro Blofeld, (Christoph Waltz).  Bond needs some help if he wants to find out the truth about the terrorist organization and he tracks down Dr. Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), a daughter of an old nemesis.  Bond learns the connection he has not only with the antagonist, but with himself.  The movie also stars Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw as Q, Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx, and Ralph Fiennes as M.
I was excited to check out this movie.  It’s James Bond!  However, as much as I wanted to enjoy this movie, I was very disappointed.  This movie is not as good as Skyfall, but its better than Quantum of Solace.
Tumblr media
Daniel Craig works with Sam Mendes again, but I think Craig is ready to retire as Bond.  Craig is the perfect Bond and sensational in the movie. As for the rest of the cast, Dave Bautista was also incredible in the movie, but he only says one word in the entire movie and making him silent, but deadly is the way the movie builds his character and he’s very scary.  The movie tries to build up this diabolical villain played by Waltz who was totally underused in this movie.  It’s just like he did nothing and felt he wasn’t as evil as other Bond villains. There was a lack of character development and I was very disappointed.  As for Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Dave Bautista, and Ralph Fiennes they are all great in their roles.
What is very promising is the cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema.  The movie looks visually stunning and the actions sequences start out fantastic.  Even the beginning sequence was terrific, but right after that all of the action sequences fell short, even though there are a ton of exciting action sequences.  In the trailer you expected so many great action sequences and none of them felt as memorable as the other Bond movies. This is Sam Mendes’ second Bond film he directed and I think I was expecting too much, but was a little let down.
Tumblr media
Grammy Award singer, Sam Smith sings the Bond theme song, “Writing’s On The Wall”.  Smith is a talented musician with sensational tunes. I was happy to hear the news that he was going to be singing the theme song, however, it’s not the true classic Bond theme song.   Other songs I personally prefer are Adele’s “Skyfall”, Tina Turner’s “GoldenEye”, and the classic “James Bond Theme” by John Barry & Orchestra and Monty Norman. However, Thomas Newman doesn’t give a promising score.  Yes, it sounds great, but not memorable enough just like the action sequences!
If you see Spectre, I’m sure you’ll find some sort of entertainment in it.  Lots of action and Craig, however, it’s not the greatest Bond movie.
I give this movie “B-”

Tracers
A bike messenger, Cam (Taylor Launter), enters the world of parkour when he meets Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos), but he’s also wanted by the Chinese mafia because he owes them money. Nikki introduces Cam to her friends where they all practice and execute in venturesome heist schemes.  The movie is directed by Daniel Benmayor and also stars Adam Rayner as Miller, Rafi Gavron as Dylan, Luciano Acuna Jr. as Tate, and Josh Yadon as Jax.
If you really want to waste your time, watch this movie.  Tracers is one of the dullest movies I have ever seen.  It looks like a high-energy movie because people are doing parkour, but really this movie is sloppy.
Tumblr media
Taylor Launter’s career has gone down hill.  I feel bad for the guy and he’s had quite a few flops (Abduction, Grown Ups 2, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl). Can someone give this man a better agent?  He isn’t a bad actor he just gets casted in the wrong movies.  In this movie he has shows he’s a great stunt work however, I could care less about this character.  He tries too hard to be convincing.  As for the chemistry he shares with the other characters in the movie and especially Marie Avgeropoulos as Nikki, it’s terrible.  Launter falls for Avgeropoulos and just watching them have a romantic chemistry is painful.  Avgeropoulos wasn’t great in this movie and her character wasn’t even likeable.
The director of the movie is Daniel Benmayor who had done previous movies such as Torque and Into the Blue, but I have never seen any of Benmayor other movies.  I’m not too sure if I want to either.  It’s hard to even say one possible good thing about this movie.  As you stumble upon this review, are you even interested in this movie, or Taylor Launter? It’s slow and boring and builds up to be a predictable clichéd movie with a poorly written screenplay.
This movie’s is filming is not good and has so much shaky cam it gets irritating.  There’s never a time when the camera stops shaking whether with characters sitting and talking, or standing and talking, it never stops. I don’t understand why no one thought about getting a tripod or something to hold the camera still.  It was fine to use a little shaky cam when Taylor and the gang were running around and doing stunts, but after that it gets distracting for the audience especially with all of the chopping and editing.
If you see this movie don’t expect to get too much out of it.  Tracers is just a waste of time and if you really want to go watch some parkour, see it on YouTube.
I give this movie a “D-“

Joy
Ever hear of Joy Mangano? She’s the inventor of the Miracle Mope. One of my personal favorite directors of all time David O. Russell’s latest movie Joy is the true story of Mangano.  Jennifer Lawrence plays Joy Mangano and the movie shows the difficult struggles she had to deal with to build up her career, a successful single mother inventor/entrepreneur, businesswoman, and millionaire.  The movie also stars Robert De Niro as her father Rudy, Édgar Ramirez as her ex-husband Tony, Virgina Madsen as Joy’s mom Terry, Bradley Cooper as Neil Walker, Diane Ladd as Mimi, and Isabella Rossellini as Trudy.
Despite the reviews the movie has been receiving Joy was actually good with some joy.  Jennifer Lawrence really does shine in the movie and the character she plays, a successful young woman, will prove to be an inspiration for many.  Her character is the one you want to root for.  With all the family drama Lawrence suffers, she is the glue to all of the madness when anything goes wrong, Lawrence does give an award winning performance and will get her recognized, but I’m not too sure about taking home the Academy Award. Although, she did just win her 3rd Golden Globe!
Tumblr media
Joy’s family is big, one big, loud Italian family that never stops talking.  Isabella Rossellini plays Trudy who is dating Joy’s father (De Niro). Trudy lends Joy money, but plays one nasty girlfriend with an attitude.  Rossellini has a wicked attitude and you can feel that presence when she’s on the screen not being a huge fan of Joy.  Robert De Niro stars as Joy’s father Rudy who needs to be with a woman 24/7.  De Niro plays his character well, but it’s not his best role I’ve seen him play. Édgar Ramirez as Joy’s ex-husband Tony has great connections with Lawrence.  There isn’t a strong romantic chemistry, but they were able to work things out because they’re characters are better friends and business partners.  Bradley Cooper as Neil Walker is the handsome and smart businessman.  It seemed Cooper wasn’t in the movie very long and I was kind of disappointed, but it didn’t stop me form loving the business bond him and Lawrence built up together that they shared in the movie.
David O. Russell has had an amazing career with film.  Russell has a lot of dialogue in the movie and most of the deep powerful emotional impactful scenes take place when Joy is angry and things aren’t going the way she wants.  As for the rest of the writing, it isn’t Russell’s best work, but Russell makes the movie relatable for young woman inspired to pursue their dreams.  Swedish cinematographer, Linus Sandegren worked with Russell before on American Hustle and I adored his work in that movie.  Seeing the two pair up again is awesome!  Sandergren works well with a camera and there are some beautiful scenes. One scene contains fake snow and the scene is captured so beautifully it all looks incredible.
Tumblr media
The soundtrack in the movie is great.  I love all of the soundtracks and scores in Russell’s movies and in this movie you have great artists like the Bee Gees, The Rolling Stones, Nat ”King” Cole, Cream and also features Ramirez and Lawrence singing one my favorite love songs, “Something Stupid”.  Composer, David Campbell tops it off with a score he put together.
This is a movie Joy Mangano should be proud of.  Mangano is a feminist for this generation as well as Lawrence.  Russell really makes these two darling ladies shine.
I give this movie “B”
