been sporadically working on a full timeline of the events of tf2 for a bit now. it's really neat how many things have specific dates that all line up reasonably with each other.
For Example:
[this has spoilers for the update comics, but not for the main comics]
Based on the teufort reader article for wizardcon and pages 6 and 19 of Doom-Mates, it's pretty likely that he went to the con for the 28th-30th, meaning the start of doommates is halloween morning (which makes sense because. you know. scream fortress comic).
Because the same teufort reader page also has both a job ad for the robot wars and a rental ad for the alamo, it's safe to say red+blu are still alive and the mercs havent been hired to fight gray yet. According to the catch-up comic, it's "currently" 1972, and the brothers died "last year", meaning they died in '91.
So we can say without much doubt that merasmus was evicted on October 31st, 1971.

I think that by 1970's, by the time RED and BLU had the world under their thumbs, the fact that Redmond and Blutarch were still alive and active wouldnt be known publicly. More even. It'd be a highly guarded secret.
People outside of the corporations strictest leadership would receive a coverup story claiming that the Mann brothers have long since died like regular people. It'd be a ordinary fact in that world, commonly accepted by the masses. The twins realized that people knowing about them is risky, as likely nobody would be willing to accept living under a 100 year old semi-immortal, hyper-rich old guy.
But, people would suspect something, and I can totally see there being conspiracy theory nuts in that world, compiling evidence and making goofy conclusions like RED and BLU are controlled by aliens or something, and some of them actually figuring out that the Mann twins are still alive and secretly ruling the world.
I think the brothers would be Soros/Rotschild like figures in that universe. Nobody actually believes that they are doing all the horrific things a small number of fanatics claims they are, not to mention that they are alive. But ironically, they are right.

all i can see is the spy brothers meeting up and both being like "oh yeah of course you would be a deadbeat father."
i usually headcanon the red and blu mercs as being seperate people that are only so similar because the brothers were copying eachother's ideas, but the idea of both demos being tavish, one being made by the bombinomicon shortly after it stole his eye, popped into my brain and it wont leave. They'd probably have different personalities due to the vastly different trajectories of their lives, he was only 7 when merasmus hired him to clean the library after all.
