Leland stottlemeyer is the type of guy to fall in love with adrian monk and then everyone he looks at morphs into monk and it is terrifying and haunting like in despicable me 2

Thinking about how much Adrian must have panicked when Leland's back got really bad. Seeing this strong, usually very grounded man who is normally in control and one of the top people that Adrian goes to for help, for strength, being torn apart by his pain and his connections with his kids starting to truly fray. A figure in his life that he not only relies on but knows that he can fully rely on just silently breaking alone in his condo. It must have terrified him, and then to get that letter? From his best friend? Telling him he was planning to leave for a while but in reality who knows if he'd planned on coming back? Leland is one of the only things Adrian has that has been there since before Trudy died. A live tether to that precious past, those glimmering memories of laughter, of before. My heart aches, and Adrian's must have been splitting into shards.

Watching S7 Ep 13 of Monk (Mr Monk Makes the Playoffs) and Lord help me, the Stottlemonk shippers have got my ass because this episode works as a set-up to a first date SO BEAUTIFULLY?

It opens w Monk trying to 'fit in' and Stottlemeyer humoring him, if not really helping

Monk reveals he has two tickets to the playoffs and, when he says he's going to take Natalie, the Capt is VISIBLY deflated (yes its because he wants to go but STFU MAKE YOUR OWN POST)

Natalie TELLS Monk the Capt wants to go w him and Monk is weary but agrees which makes the Captain SO HAPPY

They get to the tailgate party or whatever (I'm not USAmerican, sorry y'all) and Stottlemeyer is trying to acquaint Monk w His World and is fondly amused by Monk's responses.

At some point, he fully tells (a kind of insecure) Monk that they are at the game Together, and that he wants to be With Him.

The big argument concerns Stottlemeyer begging Monk to take the day off (with him!) And Monk saying he can't, and trying to convince the Capt to stay out (with him!) And in the end, Stottlemeyer goes to the game alone (and they are both sad about it). Hurt-comfort things maybe?

They even have the Conversation TM about Trudy and whether Monk is still alive (in the context of his being with Stottlemeyer, albeit at the game, and having fun) that could so easily be SIIIIIGHTLY edited to be about Moving Ahead with his life.

And the Captain specifically misses Monk so much in the box. He has his arm slung around Monk's chair, and isn't even trying to befriend the guy who got them the tickets. And he leaves in the end anyway!! To GO GET MONK! (My best friend, a great guy, I left him alone downstairs. And he deserves better than that)

And then the end! They play football together? For the case? A meeting of what they BOTH WANT? ITS HOW THEY WORK!

Look I'm not saying they are a Thing. I'm saying the narrative space for them to be A Thing is REALLY WIDE OPEN AND ITS INSANE AM I SHIPPING OLD MAN YAOI NOW?
