I’m really curious what are y’all’s fanfiction and fiction squicks?

I know the word has fallen from super-popular use but I think we need to revitalize it as a term (for a deep-seated distaste or turn-off from certain tropes, writing forms, character types, etc.) What makes you put down a book or close a tab so fast?

A word to describe it is Unconditional.

Hua Cheng loves Xie Lian throughout all of his different eras, even if he completely expected to be rejected and left alone.

As I described it in Mind in Madness, he had seen Xie Lian from the good, to the bad, to the worst. When he praises Xie Lian, he doesn't do it seeing only The Prince Who Saved His Life, or the God Who Gave His Life Meaning. He also praises The Xie Lian Who Failed. The Xie Lian Who Was Tortured. The Cruel Xie Lian. The Xie Lian Who Became A Calamity.

Hua Cheng saw all of who Xie Lian was and loves him.

And he would even if Xie Lian did not love him back. Becauae that would've been just another aspect of Xie Lian. When Hua Cheng braced himself for Xie Lian's response to his love and devotion, he fully expected rejection, and though he was scared of it, he would have accepted it.

Would it change anything? No.

Xie Lian exists, therefore Hua Cheng loves him.

What I love about Hua Cheng is that, despite being utterly in love with Xie Lian and adoring him and waiting for him for centuries- he isn’t the “If I can’t have you no one else can” type of lover.

No.

He’s the “If I can’t have you, may the person that does get you treat you with the utmost respect that you deserve. May they love you more than the stars and I only hope you will be happy throughout it.” type of lover.

And yet- Xie Lian chose him.

I think that’s beautiful.

Maybe it's just me as a Filipino who has lived through a murderous dictatorship and oligarchies in a queerphobic country controlled by the rich who brutalize grassroots pro worker movements all under the military abuse of US imperialism but...

You just gotta keep showing up. Support each other. Don't just fight for yourself. The work is hard, but you just gotta keep doing it. You'll always see results, even if they're not always the ones you want, or as big as you want them to be.

All your work always matters. Even if it doesn't feel like it at first. It always matters.

Honestly I make XL more badass in my fics and you can see that in Paper Flowers and Mind in Madness. Like he's adorable af but by he ends up being feared more than HC in both stories hahahahaha

Can we get less ”baby girl Xie Lian” representation and more ”badass Xie Lian” rep?

I feel like so many people water down Xie Lian’s character to make him be all sweet when there’s obviously a badass layer to him

and like I will be the first one to dunk on how shallow and one-dimensional MXTX’s characters are but the thing that makes Xie Lian (and the whole book series if I’m being honest) interesting is the fact that there’s a badass layer to him.

Free HuaLian Prompt!

There's a Filipino superstition called "Pagpag". Basically, when you're coming from a cemetery, spirits cling to you and follow you out. You shouldn't bring them home, so you pass by a mall, store, or restaurant and stay there for a bit to "drop them off" before you head home.

So night shift Grave Keeper XL, who can see ghosts, always practices pagpag before going home because he can see the spirits following him. He tries to drop them off in places they'll enjoy, or places where they wont bother anyone.

One day, a small spirit (HC) seems to be particularly attached with him. No matter where XL went, it would cling to him and it seemed happy just being attached to XL's sleeve.

And so, XL decides to take it home.

Hey, do you already have plans for future fics? You always write such long fics and I think this take a long time planning, right?

I don't speak for all fanfic authors but I am definitely a planner. I mean, when you read my long fics you can kinda get the vibe coz I foreshadow a lot so when you go back it reads different hahaha

Mind in Madness, I started planning that about 3 months before I posted the first chapter. Paper flowers, I planned about 2 months before, and A Matter of Time was also about 2 months before.

I think the only exception is BAD END. REWIND? because it's my low spoon fic so I planned it like...in 3 days HAHAHA

So yes, I have like...3? 4? fics under planning but I'm gonna slow down in writing coz I'm getting burnt out balancing my life + recovering my leg. The fics are helping me keep my head up but also I'm getting very tired. After Bad End, Rewind? I might take like 2 months or so off just to recover before I get back to writing. Hopefully I can plan more fics after a break.

I finished your fic Paper Flowers and it is such a cool AU. I love how you twisted the canon but the characters are still similar to the ones we know.

I want to ask if you could tell us more about the death of Shi Wudu and the fallout of Beefleaf. Or maybe about the dynamic between the Three Tumors, Jun Wu and XL. How much did they know? I mean we all know they have skeletons in the closet.

Also thank you for the extra with Yin Yu and the scenes with He Xuan. I love it when authors show that HC has a social life without XL. He has friends (and in your AU even siblings 🥰).

The death of Shi Wudu was simpler because he was weak from his festival failing so HX killed him no problem. How I imagine it turned out was that SQX walked in after he was killed and they argued over who is morally right and HX justifying himself. SQX would probably say something they would regret in the process. I don't have the full conversation in mind, but that's the general vibe.

As for the three tumors, they would be around the same except XL and LW wouldn't interact since XL is in charge of the festivals for martial and elemental gods. The meetings with XL and SWD and PM would be functional only. JW is sneaky and wouldn't let anyone know the real reason XL was isolated, so they're dealing more on their own stuff.

And yes, I'm on the HC deserves friends agenda hahaha
