Gelato Fiasco Deep Maine Woods Brownie Gelato
[New for 2019] Let me start with a solemn goodbye to the original "Deep Maine Woods" gelato that only survived for one year. Do not despair too much because it's successor is already here, and it has traded it's smokey caramel and honeycomb bits for an array of other mix-ins. 25 Things Travelers Couldn’t Do 25 Years Ago
Around 25 years ago, I was probably kicking back on some tropical island, staying in a $4 bungalow, wondering whether I should have rice or noodles for my next meal. I was traveling through Southeast Asia, Nepal, India, Greece, Turkey, Holland, and England on my first trip around the world. My then-girlfriend was with me […]

Forest Bathing
There is plenty of data that shows that walking is good not only for stress but for your creativity. Robin and Ju- Ju came from their city living to visit me for the weekend. We did all the fun things, like bowling Cy's Bowling Alley. It's the only bar in town so beer, wings, pizza and bowling is a part of rural life.
Our fashionable bowling shoes
Ju-ju and I took on Momma on the hardwood lanes. That 5 pin is a lot of rock for a 3 year old and we at one time had 3 balls that didn't quite make it down the lane. Yaaaaaa we lost! We celebrated that with a high five. We had an Easter Egg hunt, Julia watched Peppa on TV and Robin and I caught up. Robin is the best to talk to. Funny, smart, political, irreverent and ya a chip off the old block. Gawd, I love her.
Robin and Ju-ju
There is a new word for just about everything today so we went to White's Woods for a Forest Bath. Ju-ju kept wondering when we were going to peel and have a bath. I explained a lot about the trees, the mosses, the sounds, the birds and little critters. I think many people don't take the time to see. I mean really look and take note of the miracles of nature. The ripples in a beech tree had me befuddled.
ripples on a beech tree???????????? usually so smooth.
It was a lovely slow walk with a little curious kid that I call "Poppa's Favourite Little Beast". She called me a "Big Beast"  so I know she has her mums smart mouth. Wonder where she got that from? They are headed back to Toronto and phoned to say they are stuck in stop and go traffic. I was on my new ride retracing our trip thru the woods and down the side roads to get in my 10,000 steps. The bike is amazing in the woods. Put it in Sport mode and you can tackle hills you would never try unless in incredible shape. I'm working on it.
My new E ride.

Dairy Queen Cake Shakes - Chocolate & Strawberry
[New for Spring 2019] So I've covered the two new blizzards and one of the two new cupfections, so that just leaves the new cake shakes to try. Dairy Queen Cake Shakes (milk, vanilla softserve, sauce, cake, topping) A couple of big cake pieces top every shake. The chocolate cake shake, while beautiful on top, is way too chocolatey. Granted, it's DQ, so store to store variations mean from On Second Scoop: Ice Cream Reviews http://bit.ly/2UK0rE0

Trash and Treasures
The studio at Pinecroft is getting a face lift. After 7 decades as a pottery there was a collection of dirt, and memories. We are in the process of filling the second large dump box with moulds, unknown materials, broken bisque, forgotten bisque and memories of all the things my Uncle Jimmie and Aunt Cavvy did to build up the business and prosper as potters. My Uncle Jimmie was a superb mould maker and we have tossed hundreds of his old moulds. A big part of their production was lamp bases so there were multiples of them. There were materials that must have arrived in Canada on the Mayflower. He never bought small quantities of anything so there are 50 lb tubs of manganese, chrome, ochres and clays that have long since gone the way of the dodo bird. The old wood furnace came out and has been replaced with a natural gas furnace and get this - A/C. New windows have been put in to cheer the old pottery up a bit. The old pottery is where teaching will take place. Brenda and I after 40 years think we deserve a view so we will be in a separate gallery space overlooking the pond. I've decided to move out of my basement studio and go back to where it all started for me. All my life's a circle sun up and sundown- Harry Chapin  sundownhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yjxWfyxpqY  As an added bonus I bought a pedal assist E-bike so I will ride to work each day to be sure to put in my 10,000 steps. It's a lovely commute and I'm excited. It was pissing rain today on my ride in. It is easy to find an excuse not to exercise and I am now invested in this health program so I can't let a bit of rain stop me. Normally I can't sleep when it rains as I worry about the kiln wood. The Cactus Lounge Flame Throwers arrive next Friday and I have all their wood safe and sound in a building since November. I can't wait to see their goofy faces. I have missed them to the moon and back. I'm hoping Andrew and Emma come too- it's my clay family.
Dumpbox #2- more to come

Optical Fibre Sensors Shaping The New Age of Connectivity
In this era of communication and connectivity, optical-fibre sensors find many applications, some of which are discussed in this article. For ages, sensors have been used in hazardous environments. These sensors often contain electronic components. In the past, it was a challenge for engineers to make sensors work at extremely high temperatures, such as in […]

A Novel Architecture For Decimal Conversion In 8-Bit MCU
This article highlights common errors in 8-bit instruction sets, and introduces a novel architecture for decimal conversion instructions, especially in 8051, 8086, 8085 and PIC microcontrollers (MCUs). Statistical analysis of different methodologies has revealed that decimal conversion instructions in microprocessors and MCUs do not offer an error-free process. Bugs can be common for the above-mentioned […]

Why Shop Local?????
I try as best I can to support my local businesses here in MyTown,
Canada. This past few days has brought up a few questions. When I started my car to return from presenting at The Ceramics Functional Show in Wooster, Ohio my check engine light and 4 wheel drive locked lights were on. I wanted to get home to MyTown to have the work done. A visit to my mechanic Adam Kennedy had him check the cars computer and had me come back next day. The computer said there was a sensor on the computer out of whack. He did his homework at night to find a customer that had a squirrel chew the wiring harness. Toyota replaced the entire wiring harness at $4000 in parts and $1000 in labour. So Adam pops the lid and says " I see bare wires, acorns and walnuts!!! He removes a pile of gadgets splices the wires together and I get a bill for $89. Thank you, Adam. I now want jambalaya with squirrel parts in it. So glad I live in small town Ontario where people know how to fix things and not just replace things. Then I take my sexy Italian handmade eye glass frames to the local optometrist to have prescription lenses put in them. Their price $705. I thought holy shit I think that will have to wait. I then go to Walmart and get the very same prescription progressives, bifocal, for $261. Almost $500 difference. I can't on potter's wages swallow that kind of difference. I hate Walmart. I hate how they under pay their employees but i can't afford that kind of margin. I don't feel good about the Walmart decision but low income people have to make decisions to stay afloat. I live below Canada's Poverty line and live very well. I am the richest man on my street. from Tony Clennell http://bit.ly/2IBWhqq
