The origin of the Bay Window falls somewhere in the Baroque traditions of Medievil Europe, particuarly the Oriel windows signature to much Gothic architecture. Like most extravagencies the style was picked up in the Victorian period, and when a building regulation change in the late 1800s allowed for non-flush windows in residential properties, the contemporary Bay Window flourished throughout London and Britain.
