Miss Major Griffin-Gracy is a transwoman activist for transgender rights with a focus on transwomen of color. She was a leader in the Stonewall riots in 1969, provided healthcare services for transwomen during the AIDS epidemic, led efforts as executive director of the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project to support transwomen who have been incarcerated, and continues work as an activist to this day in central Arkansas.
"They [society] need to wake up and realize that we aren't going anywhere! We're still going to be there, we're part of this fabric, and without us, the world wouldn't be the same. Art wouldn't be the same, music wouldn't be the same--we're still a part of this country like everybody else is."

Happy Pride Month! This month, let's remember the activists who fought for our rights, and proudly follow their footsteps.
First off is Harvey Milk (1930-1978); the first openly gay politician on the San Fransisco Board of Supervisors in California, who led pride marches, resisted his colleagues and the anti-LGBT organization Save Our Children in his campaigns, and sponsered a bill banning discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment among other things.
"We don't want sympathetic liberals, we want gays to represent gays... We have to make up for hundreds of years of persecution. We have to give hope to that poor runaway kid from San Antonio. They go to the bars because churches are hostile. They need hope! They need a piece of the pie!"

While it still has to pass the Senate, the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act yesterday; a bill which will gauruntee federal protection for LGBT+ people. The bill recieved support from 287 cosponsers and was endorsed by more than 160 major corporations.
However, the fight is not yet over! This bill has to pass through the Republican-majority Senate before it can become law. Now is the time to call your senators and ask them to vote YES on S.788. You can find who represents your state at www.senate.gov/senators/contact . All Americans deserve equal rights under the law!

The adoption bill has been pulled, and the anti-transgender bathroom bill has passed Tennessee House and is to be voted on in the Senate. Sign this petition, and protect our transgender siblings in Tennessee by telling your representatives to vote "no!"

Note
how safe is your organization for closeted people?
At MTLambda, we value having a place for our members to feel safe, whether closeted or out. We are very strict on enforcing our rule on not "outing" others especially when in public/social media due to concerns our members may have. We also have a good amount of allies that come to the organization as well therefore our group does not just contain those who identify in the LGBT+ community. If you have anymore questions, we would love to sit down and talk to you if you would like! You can contact us through email: ([email protected])
