here's a little update from my graduate program days

sometimes i feel like i haven't been doing nothing much this past year cause the process of an international graduate student is quite solitary and feels invisiblized because no one is constantly sharing the same experiences as you but here's a reminder to me that babygirl you're doing so much, you moved far far far from home, you're studying at a university which is considered one of the best universities in the world, you're in another continent and making a great living for yourself by living on your terms, making your own food and eating healthy, exploring places, surviving the lack of vitamin D, making friends from all across the world and nurturing the ones back home, having new genres in your breakdowns, learning a new language, you're taking care of plants along with yourself, doing an arts graduate program and applying for a science graduate program, doing research about tumblr and your fannish interests, working at a gallery and developing websites for artists (your wordpress blogger era was fated!), getting actually good grades despite balancing chores, life, work and relationships— omg you're also so in love and you have someone who is enjoying dreaming in your language. i am so proud of you and the little girl you used to be is smiling across the time knife watching you worship at the altar of her little dreams

Is there an un-aesthetic version of studyblr? I don't want to look at your notes and feel inferior, or see you set up your study table in a way that suggests you never experienced a lick of stress. I want real study tips, that teach me how to study. With the ugly notes where they explain a good way to process the information and write it down that isn't just copying the whole book. I want organisation tips, and how to prepare for tests and reread materials in a way that doesn't take a week per chapter.

additionally, today my sister and i hung out after school. at school, i had five classes - in five periods. i had a successful meeting with one of my teachers organising my swapping into a different spanish class.

tomorrow i have sprint training in the afternoon. i also need to pick up birthday gifts for lana and myke. whilst i am on my way home, i will buy the gifts and pick up my on-hold library books.

this is an appreciation post for kind people from the country i am going to study who keep reminding me what i should bring, things i should do there and comfort me about my anxieties when they literally don't have to do that? i mean you absolutely don't have to message me first about what vessels i should get, how they'll come pick me up from the airport, that i should absolutely get the museum pass cause there are too many amazing museums there, how my birthday in a foreign country will be fun and i should try the korean fried chicken place, get good boots and thermals please, i got a cute ceramic plate from a store i will show you like you don't know me emotionally well BUT YOU STILL CHOOSE TO BE KIND AND I AM OVERWHELMED WITH LOVE AND WANT TO HUG THEM, no one helps you out like international students who are more experienced and have better survival skills

browsed through various doctoral programs which excited me and made me wanna hurl cause it's gonna be the biggest commitment if i ever end up doing and then i spiraled into thinking how twenties is the decade that's gonna change so much and i am just gonna spend it learning which sounds amazing but also absolutely scary cause i don't wanna be out of touch from reality, earn and live also which ik i can absolutely do while doing a phd but i just can't visualize it

Yay I'm back I promise I've been studying. Summer's nearly over and I cannot wait until school starts.

today is the last day in a place without internet! 3 months of writing on bus and supermarket wifi outta the way🙏. went on all my old walks this week as a little goodbye 💔 now officially turning a corner into the absolute night and day of my 2 work vs. grad research projects lmao

soooo i am finished with my master's in clinical psych and am graduating this month... here's some things i'm going to miss about school (until i go back for my PhD that is!)

the undying feeling of pride and satisfaction that came with building on, and eventually completing my thesis. holy cannoli i actually did that, i wrote a book about my adventures as a clinic intern, what worked and what didn't and what that means for science and my professors *liked it*. i'll never forget typing up that last sentence on the page, flipping through a year and half of work and thinking "wow, i'm good at this".

class! i loved going to school, dressing in real-people clothes and absorbing my professor's wisdom for hours on hours on hours! i loved that! and then in between, sitting in the canteen and commiserating with my classmates and tossing out ideas for the assignment that week.

staying up late after evening class with a whiteboard or flashcards or the reading for that day and working on the material from class until it clicked in my head. the satisfaction of finally mastering a hard concept, and then hopping on the phone with classmates and explaining it like "i've done it!!!"

just.... learning. learning and learning and learning some more. being excited to have questions and the just the loveliness of growing a new skill with patience and the contentment with being a newbie at something. i love that and i wanna keep it.

i just love school, and i'm excited for the day when i am ready to go back.
