thinking once again about how Martyn and Grian were such perfect foils in third life without even trying. Literally beat for beat, they were perfect opposite mirrors of each other

Both ended up in a role serving someone else. Grian unwillingly due to an accident. Martyn happily due to his own choice

Both stayed in their respective right-hand-man roles for the entire season. Grian viewed his situation as an unhappy one and was looking forward to leaving Scar, but still acted as his loyal ally the whole time. Martyn viewed his situation as perfectly acceptable and beneficial, but still planned to betray Ren at some point

Grian never meant to betray Scar, but ended up killing him. Martyn meant to betray Ren, but ended up dying by his side instead

I know Dogwarts is often seen as a super loyal and unified group in fanon, but from a recent rewatch of Third Life, this is honestly my read on Dogwarts as a group.

[Every day I'd walk in and, there was my fresh hand man, A smile of guidance, eyes of alliance, tangled and wired to his little goliath, conveniently deft, a sharp mind, but somehow a few steps behind, I wouldn't'a gived him all of my wisdom, had I known someday---] I'm sorry, right hand man, eyes of alliance? That is PEAK 3rd Life Desert Duo. just imagine Scar heading back to their base, seeing Grian there to greet him, happy and scheming, the two of them working together, with a Grian just a "few steps behind" (not 100% on the alliance at first but, in the end, he's there, by Scar's side, until---)

[he'd scram and I'd miss him!] Suddenly it's Last Life. Everything before was just a flashback to another time. Grian's stolen Scar's life and run off with it, leaving him alone.

[look at me sulk again! weren't you supposed to last forever? guess I just loose myself, I can't adapt to my successors, oh, not on my own, without your phone, that lead to a void...! I was being toyed with by flamboyance, as always, but it felt so good when you'd humor me...] Scar's sad, he'd thought their alliance would last forever, but it's a new game, but his alliance with Joel fell through (can't adapt to his successors) and he's alone again. But, I mean, Grian does come and talk to him sometimes, except it's always for some kind of deal, like him and Mumbo trying to get crystals or lives out of him by threatening "his" horse or locking him in an obsidian box.

["wasn't he just a riot! maybe a tad reliant,"] Now it's Double Life, and Grian is talking about Scar to the other players.

[but how could I blame him? I was the same since everything counted on someone I'd die with---] Scar pretends not to hear how Grian speaks about him, working on his panda sanctuary alone, only for them both to die abruptly from their soulbound.

[perhaps the sweet talk kept on, and you promised that you'd let on, ya finally let go, all coy and sincere, oh,] Limited Life, and Grian is agreeing to have the Bad Boys be allowed to the Clockers, promising an alliance between them once again, except...

[that dazzling night, in the back of the 'Dero] ...Grian kills him, genuinely stabs him in the back, taking his final life despite their alliance.

[here I go crying again! you were supposed to make me better! must be for old times' sake, how you're pulling my antennae, even now! without even holding me, a fool I must've been, to think you'd complete me, by speaking so utterly cheaply, it just felt so good (felt so good, felt so good---)] Scar screaming and crying his heart out, angry and upset. He can't understand why he keeps being betrayed like this, why it can't just be 3rd Life again. He reflects on everything in the past---Grian cheating on him with BigB, Grian stealing his life in Last Life---and, finally, Grian killing him in the final battle of 3rd Life, except that time it felt so good, felt so good---

[all I have left of you only exists inside a cabinet, if i could just look you in the rosy-tinted glasses, I...] Secret Life, but it's already ended, and Scar's already won. He runs his hand along his sunflowers, staring longingly at the suspiciously-Grian-shaped shadow.

[I don't know what I'd tell you, All I remember is---] Wild Life begins.

[---your showstopper smile, how you turned the dial, "don't you just love TV?"] Grian releases the first Wild Card.

[I love TV...! That lasted me for a long while! How can I face myself, somebody tell me how I'm doing, (the show goes on), tell me how good I am, or break that I'm beyond improving, (the show goes on), GOSH forbid!] Scar playing Wild Life a lot more confidently than perhaps he should---his Bamboozlers tell him how good he is, while on the inside, he feels rotten. He lets Jimmy kill Grian and Mumbo, and kills Grian himself, feeling satisfied as it happens.

[you really left me hung out to dry, "you traitorous thing!"] Grian yells at him at the reputation board after blowing it up, but Scar can only smirk back at him, oh, how the tables have turned?

[and yet I still dream of the glory days, think of before this when all that I valued was---] as Grian storms off, Scar can't help but remember, can't help but wish. And then, something seems to switch.

[---your embrace (the show goes on)] Grian offers an alliance in forgiveness for trapping him with his snail, and Scar can't help but be stunned. [(the show goes on, the show goes on, the show goes on)]

[oh, what did we have? there's always a catch to this type of thing...] Scar gets angry---he knows this game. He's played it before. He knows Grian will betray him in the end. And yet...

[but the show goes on (the show goes on, the show goes on, the show goes on, the show goes on)] He plays it anyway.

my fav watcher Grian hc is that he uses his powers for the most mundane things like finding something/someone

I just feel like Scott is the kind of guy who is so committed to diplomacy and making the most of things that whenever it comes to Big betrayals or irreconcilable disagreements with teammates he'll just bite his tongue, go "<3<3<3 :)", and internally seethe, bottling it up forever and ever aside from maybe occasional snarky comments. Like how Martyn betrayed and murdered him and Scott went "I wouldn't have it any other way <3" because he didn't want to end things on a negative note meanwhile he's been seething over it for seasons and will occasionally say shit like "I mean (killing scott quickly) is what you usually do! Every other time you've killed me it's been quick! And abrupt! And unexpected!" to Martyn with so much out of nowhere audible venom and then just somehow instantly go back to repressing again and acting like everything is chill and fine and great. Because Scott is committed to being chill and optimistic and adaptable and finding the silver lining in everything.

This could allow for multiple interpretations, and also implies that the players are not actually sure how long an hour is in terms of the game/how much time they have left to live (but presumably would have figured out a equality, ex.: 1 day = 1 hour).

*In the game of MineCraft, a day-night cycle is 20 minutes (10 minutes of daylight, 10 minutes of night). For those sticking extremely close to MineCraft's worldbuilding for fics, this means that a player's day is 20 minutes. So an hour would be 3 days, and 24 hours would be equal to 72 days.

***In the fic, they don't have "24 hours to live," but rather a different time, such as "24 days," or "8 weeks," or those units converted to hours. Each day is our 24 hours.

Geminislay in Gotham Part 1

Gem didnt know how she got here. One moment she was gathering resources for her season 10 base expansion, the next she was POOFED into a random, grimy back alley that would put even the darkest corner of the Goblin Empire to shame.

“What the- oh!” 

She was also being cornered by four angry looking guys with guns.

“Okay…hey dude. Whatcha guys doin’?” 

They glanced at each other and glared at her. 

“The hell did she come from?” 

They raised their guns. Gem glared and drew her sword and shield. She took a defensive stance. She didnt know what was happening, or who these people were, but they didnt look like they were playing nice. 

“Does it matter? Get rid of her, she’s in the way.” 

Oh, I’ll show you in the way. 

This was a free-shift server. She let her redlife skin wash over her. 

“Wait! Stop!” 

“What the-“

Gem darted to the man on her far right. She raised her shield to knock the barrel of his gun away from her and whipped the edge of her sword across his neck. He dropped the gun to claw at his slashed artery. Gem kicked it out of the way. 

She rushed the next closest guy, this time shoving his gun upwards with her shield while still blocking shots from the others. She stabbed him, but he had the audacity to fall before she could retract her sword from his stomach. 

No matter, she drew her axe from her inventory…

“The fuck-“ 

“She’s meta!” 

…and slammed a crit into the third mans chest cavity. The last man fired until his gun clicked uselessly. He scrambled to reload. 

“Come on, dont tell me you’re out of arrows.” Gem teased. 

“STOP!”  

Gem cleanly beheaded the man. His headless body collapsed, and she caught sight of the person behind him who had shouted from the entrance of the alley. 

“What are you doing?” 

He looked a few years younger than her. He held a bo staff. He was wearing a pretty cool outfit, black with a red vest and a cape. He had short, straight black hair parted down the middle. His eyes were hidden behind a domino mask. 

And he had her trapped in the alleyway. Gem didnt trust his calm demeanor, but she shifted back to her season ten skin. She switched her axe for her Loyalty III trident, clearly ready to throw it at a moments notice. 

“I was defending myself. Honestly, who just points a gun at someone they just met?” 

The boy didn’t say anything. He looked down the tip of her trident and let the irony set in.

“Look, Im not gonna hurt you.” Gem paused. She spun her trident out of the overhead throwing grip. It swooshed through the air as she planted the nonlethal end into the ground. It landed with an intimidating thunk. 

“Who are you?” He asked. 

Gem glanced down at the bodies and giggled. Weird that they havent despawned yet. 

“Well, I guess now you can call me Geminislay.”

“…Okay. Are you a meta?” 

“I- no? Whats a meta?” 

He looked shocked. “A person with like, superpowers. Or something.” 

Gem thought for a moment. “Oh! Like Tango?” 

“What do tangos have to do with anything?” 

“He’s a really nice blaze hybrid, you probably dont know him. There was one time Jimmy kissed him on the cheek and he nearly burned down my house.” 

The boy smoothly masked his confusion. “Yeah, like that.”

“Nope! I dont have anything like that.” 

His eyes narrowed. “You can change your appearance at will and pull weapons from thin air.”

“Uh yeah? Cant you?” 

He didnt answer. “What are your intensions in Gotham?” 

“I dont know! I’m honestly just trying to chill, but these guys really seem to have a problem with that!” 

“So you decided to murder them!?” 

Gem shrugged. “Yup. I mean they’ll res-“ wait a minute, the bodies havent despawned yet. She looked at her hearts, realizing for the first time that they were hardcore colored. “Oh dont tell me there’s a life gimmick here.”

“Um, excuse me?” 

Maybe it was like X life or secret life. Really, any of the life series gimmicks could be bad. Hell, with the way they were acting it could even be like lifesteal. “How many hearts do you have?”

“One?” 

Gem gawked at him. “Holy- oh my god dude!” Gem chucked a piece of bread at him. He caught it, looking thoroughly confused. “You’re like, one stubbed toe away from dying! Tell me you can at least regen!” 

“I dont know what you-“ 

Footsteps approached them. They both stiffened. The boy turned so his back was to the wall, facing the footsteps but not turning his back on her. 

“The fuck is taking you so long?” Said the man who entered the alley. He froze, and then smirked upon seeing the boy. “Well well well, what do we have here? A little birdie.” He glanced at Gem. “And you found a friend.” 

Mystery boy raised his staff. “Leave her alone if you know whats good for you.” Well that was kinda nice. Unnecessary, but nice. 

“Fine. We’ll let your little friend live, as long as you come quietly. I bet the Joker’s gonna pay reeeaaal well for a new Robin to play with.” 

The boy just barely tensed. The comment clearly put him on edge, and he looked ready to attack. Gem decided she had seen enough. She launched her trident into the mans skull, probably piercing a few inches through to the other side. The boy’s eyes followed it, whirling back to her as it returned. 

“What was THAT for!?” 

“Dude are you crazy? You have ONE HEART!” 

“Yeah, and it works perfectly fine!” 

“A slime could probably take you out right now, you have one heart.” 

He rolled his eyes. She couldnt see, but she could tell. 

“Well how many hearts do you have?” 

“Ten! Like how you’re supposed to.” 

He sighed. “Okay pause. Where are you from?” 

Gem blinked. “I’m from Hermitcraft. But I’m not sure where exactly here is. Do you guys have access to a server hub? I was kinda in the middle of something before I got teleported over here.” 

“No, we dont have whatever that is, but I need to arrest you.” 

“Do you really need to though?”

“You murdered five people in front of me!” 

“Im sorry, I was defending myself! Honestly, GOD FORBID women have hobbies.” 

He sighed and tapped an earpiece. “This is Red Robin, I have a powered individual who killed five people in less than five minutes. Requesting backup.” He looked back at her. 

“Either you come with us and answer our questions, or we take you by force.” 

Gem considered her options. She was still trapped in an alleyway, so getting out on foot wasnt an option. And this Red Robin guy had seemed ready to throw down to protect her, so she didnt really want to hurt him. That left two options: up, and down. She could pull out her pickax, but digging straight down was a bad idea to begin with, and he would probably just follow her. So her only option was up. She cursed herself for wearing her chestplate instead of her elytra. 

Well, that wasnt a difficult issue to solve. 

“I’ll pass, thanks.” She effortlessly shifted into Princess Gem of Dawn, spread her Monarch wings and flew out of the alley. 

She saw a few more masked people trying to follow her as she made her escape. They were fast, but her wings were faster. One she lost them, she shifted into a very different skin model, which was her most subtle look. She had much shorter straight red hair and a white jacket. A flashlight was perched on her shoulder. Gemma Taylor, GIGS crew ghost hunter. 

If this gets enough notes I’ll do a part 2 from Tims POV, bc I’m cackling imagining his inner monologue.

i see this for Scarian, Taurian, and Biggri for sure, but could anyone explain to me this for Grumbo? curious to know if they are the outlier or if Grumbo fits the pattern too

To me Grian is an "everything is my fault forever" guy who is, agonizingly for me, constantly attracted to "nothing is my fault ever" guys and my entire life mission is to make people see this vision because I cannot sit alone with my prophesies of this guy self destructing.

one of my favorite grumbot headcanons is that he's a watcher but not even grian realizes it for a long time

because, well, originally, he was just redstone and blocks and pre-determined messaging

but somewhere along the way, a part of grian's magic became imbued in him---unconscious effort, on grian's part. because how else are watchers made but created?

grian didn't even realize what had happened until it was too late

until they were trapped on empires, unable to leave, with a grumbot threatening imminent destruction of their world

and what else could trap them in a server and delete its very code on a whim but a watcher?

Anyways I think that Life Series Ren is a dog trying to be a wolf and Life Series Pearl is a wolf trying to be a dog.

I think it's underestimated how much of a romantic Grian can be actually.

Because Grian romanticizes things hard. This is the guy who called himself Mumbo's "needy girlfriend" while spam messaging him through the message system they built between their bases. This is the guy who absolutely fawns over BigB and had a whole love at first sight moment with him in Double Life. This is the guy who romanticized the concept of soulmates for his entire Double Life episode one, excitedly hitting people and talking about how he was "looking for love". This is the guy who is always confessing his love to someone and gets giddy when people pay enough attention to him. I see Grian so strongly as someone who is a little bit in love with everyone he's ever met, falls super hard at the drop of a pin, and romanticizes any sign someone wants him even a little bit.

But I feel like this often gets missed because, honestly, I think a lot of fandom analysis of Grian from this perspective is centered around Life Series Scarian. And while I'm as much of a Scarian girlie as anyone, I feel the need to point out that them in the life series are really really not a great showcase of how Grian acts when he likes someone. Because honestly, Grian is often..unhappy? With Scar? In the life series? Partially because Grian is just generally more anxious and on edge in the Life Series and partially because Scar and Grian are such different people with such different priorities that Grian's anxiety gets worse actively when they're teamed. And while this is an interesting part of the characters and how they act in a difficult relationship, I think looking at Life Series Scarian specifically and going "Yes, this is how Grian approaches relationships" misses a lot about him.

Anyways I don't know where I'm going with this I just think Grian is someone who romanticizes people and things in his head a Lot and really really likes the idea of people liking him.

Slightly redesigned her, aka, gave her a van patterned tail. Designed her to be an oriental shorthair, tall, sleek, and beautiful. I there Turkish van in there only because of the tail pattern and the plum at the end of the tail… though I’m very sure that is very incorrect. Dunno—

She is taller than Lizzie (who is also an oriental), she is just an oriental for aesthetic purposes lol (big ears = cutie). Also her pet rats omggg
