A shot from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in #Jerusalem, where in 2016 World Monuments Fund is partnered with the National Technical University of Athens to restore the Edicule, the structure covering what is widely believed to be the tomb of #Jesus. The tomb is visited by thousands of pilgrims every day. . . . . #conservation #preservation #jerusalem #tombofjesus #heritage #religion #christianity (at Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem)

THIS is why #heritage professionals' work is critical to the preservation of our civilization! Many 🙏🏻 🙏🏻🙏🏻 to @uffizigalleries! . The polyptych by Paolo da Visso rescued from the ruins still shines brightly: colours and sparkling gold keep hope and fortitude alive. . The panel exemplifies the 1400s painting of the Nera Valley in the Marche, stricken by the last August’s earthquake. The exhibit “We Must Make Haste!” hosts at the Uffizi several artworks coming from the quake-stricken region, where more than 6,000 pieces have so far been recovered thanks to the tough work of the #ItalianFirefighters, #CivilProtection, #ItalianArmy and #CarabinieriArtSquad, supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, art historians, conservators and so many volunteers. . On display polyptychs and altar pieces, wooden sculptures, church furniture and jewels. Director Schmidt says: “From Vittoria della Rovere’s time in 1631, the Uffizi have been deeply indebted to the Marche. By showing the rescued masterpieces and the ones still to rescue, we however show their beauty and the desperate need for solidarity involving all of us. Part of the incomes will be allocated for the reconstruction of the quake-struck regions”.

Tim Matthews (departmental technician, Applied Arts) @Fitzwilliam_UK Museum whose job is to make sure all the clocks in the Museum keep the right time. . He has eight clocks to unlock and wind, some as often as once a week (one needs winding only annually, although we wouldn't leave it that long as it's not good for the #clock). Another might sound as if it's telling the wrong time, but it is Roman striking: there are different pitches for the 'i's and 'v's of the hours on the dial. . (at The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge)

Mighty awesome! Caroline Hoover, conservation student at @buffalostate_artconservation (class of 2018) inpaints losses in order to visually reintegrate them into the original surface. Before inpainting, the piece was varnished in order to create an isolating layer between original paint and new media. It also helped saturate the painting so that Caroline can better match the color. . (at Buffalo State)

#MuseumWorkers Curatorial dedication knows no bounds, courtesy @pma_upinarms of @philamuseum : "Ever wondered what it feels like to wear armor in the summer sun? Well, there's really nothing like experiencing it for yourself, but the face of this weary man-at-arms who just dismounted after a baston course, or Kolbenturnier, gives a remarkably good impression. It's HOT and it's EXHAUSTING! Throwback to the tournament at Schaffhausen in July 2014."
