I come across as very calm, but in my head I am a real busybody. I worry about what they think of me, what I said and shouldn't have said... It's easy to focus on what I don't want and what's not going well in my life.

But I feel so much better when I focus on things that do make me happy: wonderful creating in my studio, a nice walk, puppies.... etc. etc. And dark chocolate of course, not to forget :)😊

A sunflower always automatically faces the sun, stretches its head in the direction of the good, all the beautiful. The shadows are still there, but she does not see them. She focuses on the beautiful rays of the sun. Go shine all of you!

For some time now I have been considering not only painting abstractly, but also incorporating recognizable parts into my paintings. Indeed, with my drawings, I myself always find it surprising that I start with a recognizable animal or an object and that from it very unexpected, imaginative forms sprout “of their own accord.

This painting was almost finished, but was still missing something. But what? Suddenly I saw a picture of a sunflower in front of me. That was it! Sunflowers have wonderful symbolism. The sunflower takes its name from the fact that it always turns its face toward the sun, symbolic of the pursuit of light, optimism and positivity. Sunflowers are therefore a sign of a zest for life.

Why is a piggy bank often shaped like a pig? In many cultures, a pig symbolizes good luck, fertility and prosperity. On the contrary, some consider it an unclean animal. I always think pigs are nice animals and they are very intelligent. The anatomical structure of pigs also seems to be very similar to that of humans. In this free drawing I depicted different parts of the pig; the rooting snout, the distinctive ears and, of course, the funny curly tail.

I felt SO MUCH like painting this morning that I went into my studio, even though I had all sorts of other things planned (you know what I mean?). I painted briefly but nicely and made a good start on this piece. I'm toying with the idea of adding threads and fabrics, possibly turning it into flower-like shapes. To be continued!

COMMISSIONED PAINTING I had made this video the day before I was to take this painting to the client. I found it very exciting. After all, I had made a design beforehand that was so concrete that it already looked like an existing painting. "Just have to make it," my friend said with a wink. I thought: but I can paint well, can't I? Still, I just couldn't manage to reproduce the design exactly; it seemed like the work had a mind of its own! Eventually I realized that the point of painting is that I react to what is happening on the canvas and so there must be room for spontaneity. Fortunately, the client wrote that they were "very happy with their painting!" Much learned from this: on my next assignment, I will clearly state that I create my best work when I give myself space to let the painting emerge. Oooh, there are those days when everything just doesn't quite work out; you drop the metal trash can rock hard on your big toe, you completely explode the asparagus sauce in the (hard to clean) microwave.... It would make you Kroko Loco! But luckily ... even on those days, you can always have a great time drawing. In Dutch, this work has a funny title: 'Kraanvogel', which means Crane, but also literally translated: Bird with a water tap. But then again, what do I make of that in English?

Een nieuwe tekening uit mijn recente serie potloodtekeningen. Ook deze met een vogel erop. Ik teken graag vogels, misschien omdat ik ze bewust of onbewust met vrijheid associeer. En wat is een vogel met een kraan op zijn kop? Precies een kraanvogel!
