Witchcraft Book Recommendation Lists
Tumblr media
(Reposting again bc tumblr turned off the reblogs on the original wtf. From an answer to an inquiry in the witchcraft tags. Decided to repost for anyone else who might need it.)
Here’s the post I made with recommendations for green witchcraft and plant magic. The list includes magical resources and accompanying practical texts on botany, herbology, and medicinal plants.
Here’s the post I made with recommendations for general witchcraft study, including practical sources on the history of modern witchcraft. (In particular, I recommend Margot Adler’s “Drawing Down The Moon” and Ronald Hutton’s “The Triumph of the Moon” for information about the modern movement.)
Here’s a recent photo of my personal library, if you’re looking for a general list of titles to check out.
Here’s the post I made with a list of JSTOR articles I’ve found that relate to witchcraft, witch trials, folk magic, occult beliefs, superstition, and the history surrounding all of them. It’s not exhaustive, but it’s pretty comprehensive.
And here are a couple of masterlists of podcast episodes that deal with witchcraft, witch trials, the history of witchcraft-related beliefs, and resources for fact-checking and debunking misconceptions and misinformation commonly found in witchcraft spaces.
(Also I have published a few books on practical secular witchcraft, if you’re interested….)
You can also find additional recommendations in the "book recs" and "witchy books" tags on my blog.
Hope this helps!
(If you’re enjoying my content, please feel free to drop a little something in the tip jar or check out my published works on Amazon or in the Willow Wings Witch Shop. 😊)

So, let us delve into the mystic arts and learn how to craft your very own grimoire, a treasured companion on your magical journey:
✨ 1. Choose Your Tools: Begin by selecting a journal or a notebook that resonates with you. It could be leather-bound, handcrafted, or a simple, beautifully designed book. Let your intuition guide you.
✨ 2. Dedicate Your Grimoire: Before you start filling its pages, dedicate your grimoire to your magical practice. Create a ceremony or ritual that signifies its importance in your spiritual journey.
✨ 3. Organize Your Content: Decide on the sections or categories for your grimoire. Common sections include spells, herbs, crystals, divination, moon phases, and personal reflections. Organizing your content will make it easier to reference.
✨ 4. Decorate with Intention: Use art, symbols, and colors that hold significance in your practice. Incorporate symbols, runes, and illustrations that resonate with your magical path. Each stroke of your pen can carry intention.

✨ 7. Lunar and Planetary Magic: Dedicate pages to the phases of the moon and the influence of planetary energies. Include your observations and experiences with these celestial guides.
✨ 8. Divination and Tarot: Share your insights about divination methods like tarot, runes, or scrying. Document your readings and interpretations.
✨ 9. Dream and Meditation Journal: Dedicate a portion to dream and meditation experiences. Record your visions, insights, and messages received during your spiritual journeys.
✨ 10. Personal Reflections: Your grimoire is not just a book of facts but a record of your spiritual evolution. Write about your experiences, your magical progress, and how your practice has shaped you.
✨ 11. Protection and Secrecy: Consider creating a page or section dedicated to protective spells or enchantments to safeguard the contents of your grimoire.
✨ 12. Regularly Update: Your grimoire is a living, evolving document. As you learn, grow, and experience, continue to add to its pages and update your knowledge.
🌟🔮🌟
As you craft your grimoire, remember that it is a reflection of your unique connection to the magical world. With each entry, you breathe life into your practice, making it a powerful, personalized tool for your mystical journey. May your grimoire be a testament to your magical evolution, a record of your discoveries, and a key to the secrets of the universe.
📜🔮✨ Blessed be, as you embark on this enchanting journey of grimoire creation. 📜🔮✨

The Power of Intuition: Developing Your Psychic Abilities.
🌟✨
Intuition is a powerful gift that we all possess. It's the inner knowing, the gut feeling, the psychic sense that guides us. Whether you're new to exploring your intuitive abilities or looking to enhance them, here are some exercises and tips to help you tap into the magic of your own intuition.
🌟✨
1. Meditation for Clarity 🧘‍♂️🌌
Take time each day to meditate. Clear your mind, focus on your breath, and allow your intuition to surface. The more you practice, the more in tune you become with your inner wisdom.
2. Trust Your Gut Feeling 🤔💭
Start small by listening to your gut instincts in everyday situations. Trust that inner voice when making decisions. Over time, this will strengthen your intuitive muscle.
3. Tarot and Oracle Cards 🔮🃏
Experiment with divination tools like Tarot or Oracle cards. These can be excellent tools for honing your intuitive skills. Draw a card daily and interpret its message based on your intuition.
4. Dream Journaling 🌙📓
Keep a dream journal by your bedside. Record your dreams as soon as you wake up. Often, dreams contain intuitive insights and symbolism that can be deciphered over time.
5. Practice Empathy and Active Listening 👂❤️
Empathize with others and practice active listening. Tuning into their emotions and thoughts can help you fine-tune your intuitive abilities.
6. Nature Connection 🌿🌳
Spend time in nature. The natural world has its own intuitive energy. Take walks, sit quietly, and observe. Nature can amplify your intuitive senses.
7. Develop Your Third Eye Chakra 🧘‍♀️👁️
Work on balancing and opening your third eye chakra through meditation and visualization exercises. This energy center is often associated with intuition.
8. Trust the Process 🌟🌈
Remember, developing intuition takes time and patience. Trust in your own unique journey. Your intuition is like a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.
9. Seek Guidance 🤝🌠
Consider seeking guidance from experienced intuitives or psychics. They can offer insights and techniques based on their own experiences.
10. Keep a Journal of Intuitive Experiences 📔✨
Document your intuitive experiences in a journal. This helps you track your progress and learn from your insights.
🌟✨
Your intuition is a valuable compass on your life's journey. Embrace it, nurture it, and allow it to illuminate your path. The more you connect with your intuition, the more you'll discover the profound wisdom that resides within you.
Embrace the magic of your intuition, and let it lead you toward a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
🌟✨

Tips for Witchcraft in the Dorm
If you're in a situation where you have a roommate that may not be open to your craft, you're in the broom closet and being in college makes it even harder to practice, you're starting your witch journey while in college, you couldn't take a full sized altar to school, or you're like me and attend a private Christian college (ugh) that makes you feel the need to be discreet, this post is for you!
If you have an altar: Find a way to downsize your altar. For some this isn't a huge thing, but I'm the kind of gal that liked to go all out with my space. The best way to do it is to find a box or container that can be moved easily and has all your essentials, and only take what can fit. If you can't fit certain tools, it's best to find substitutions. A small bowl that can hold water will work just as well as a crystal ball. Putting herbs in bags will allow more room than jars.
Alternative to candle magic: I know the urge to put tape over that fire alarm is real but I'm unfortunately a goody two shoes. Luckily wax burners exist and you can get all the fun of candle magic minus the flame. I like to draw sigils into my wax before melting it for spellwork; and you can get all sorts of different colored wax. If you need unscented wax, you can buy white wax and dye it.
Some discreet types of magic to look into:
Tea. Tea. Tea. I cannot stress how useful tea magic is. There's loads of information about it right here on Tumblr! Most dorms allow ectric teapots and tea is easy to store.
Knot magic. Here's a great post about it. Absolutely any kind of spell can be done with a knot and it's super easy to implement into everyday activities.
Moon magic. Guys, the moon is awesome. Work with it. Moon water is a great manifestation tool and corresponding anything with the moon phases is an instant boost. It's also free and super easy.
Sigils. Really fun to learn and really easy to draw in a couple journals, on a foggy window, in your tea as you stir it, or on your skin. I recommend Pinterest if you're trying to find tutorials.
Runes. I like to cast physical runes but there's lots of ways to use these in everyday magic. Each symbol has their own meaning and there's an abundance of information on them. Similar to sigils, I like to draw them on things.
Extra tips:
Learn the correspondences for each day of the week. Doing little things for each day will keep you connected to your craft as you get through college.
Anything can be a challace. Cleanse that cup and you're good to go.
Astrology is your friend.
I'm here for you. College is hard. Dorming can be a pain too.
I hope this helps someone. Reblog if you can. Love you all!

Adding a bit more to this by sending it into the universe for myself; hugely needed protection from people, negativity, gossip, things of that sort. Placed everything in a lil satchel and didn't bring it with me today because ai was worried about keeping it safe and also the cinnamon going everywhere through the bag. I'm gonna have to post pics of it all wrapped up, it's soooo cute and I sealed it with wax too. But yes, I needed to keep the spell photo with me and what better for rn while I'm out than to place it here :) maybe I'll post here more for myself. I need to seriously shield myself from these people and protect myself and my positive energy I've worked so hard to have at my 9-5. I've been so upset and worried about it and needed some help with projecting my intentions about keeping myself safe and happy.

Samhain Mulled Cider
Apple Cider ( I got caramel apple)
Cinnamon Sticks
Orange
Pumpkin Pie Spice
In a crockpot put your cider, cinnamon sticks , and pumpkin pie spice. Slice up an orange and put in a few slices then squeeze the rest of the juice into the crock pot. Simmer on low for 3-4 hours. Serve warm.
If you are lucky to have access to mulling spices then feel free to use those. Pumpkin pie spice is just a ground mix of those spices.

Anyway here's my opinion of the day:
If you only study witchcraft, you're not going to be the best witch you can be. If you're going to use herbs, study botany. If you're going to use meditation and mindfulness, study theraputic methods like DBT and CBT. If you're going to use astrology, study astronomy. If you're going to use cooking and baking and drinking, study gastronomy and mixology. If you're going to use crystals, study geology. If you're involving paganism that has its roots in a particular time and place, study their histories and cultures. If you're a technowitch, study computer science.
Science and magic aren't opposing one another, they work hand in hand. Only by truly understanding the world around you can you utilise it to the best of your abilities. There gets to a point where cutesy little affiliation lists and emoji spells on Tumblr isn't going to help you any more.

How to Glimpse Your Future Children with Tarot
This method works with the Rider-Waite deck and with faithful clones of it.
STEP 1: Confirm the number.
Overhand shuffle your deck, as you ask, “How many children will I have?”
Wait for a card to jump out. If more than one did, take only the first that landed.
Count how many human and discernibly humanlike elements there are in the imagery. That is your answer.
Examples:
The Lovers shows Archangel Raphael, Adam and Eve. You will have three kids.
Death includes the Reaper, a priest, a king, a mother, a child. You will have five.
Eight of Wands has nothing human. You will have none.
Needless to say, if you get zero as an answer, no need to proceed.
STEP 2: Determine the sex.
Do this for every child.
Overhand shuffle your cards, including the one that was previously drawn, as you ask, “Will my child be born male or female?”
If any card jumps out, put it back in the deck. After shuffling, take the card on top and the one at the bottom.
Observe both cards to see if the human and discernibly humanlike elements in the imagery are male or female. The majority is your answer.
Examples:
Two of Swords (1 woman) + Three of Pentacles (3 men) = Your child will be male.
The World (1 woman, 1 male angel) + Eight of Swords (1 woman) = Your child will be female.
Judgement (1 male angel, 2 men, 2 boys, 2 women) + Three of Cups (3 women) = Draw. Repeat Step 2.
STEP 3: Ascertain the personality.
Do this for every child.
Overhand shuffle your cards, including the two that were previously drawn, as you ask, “What will my child be like?”
If any card jumps out, put it back in the deck. After shuffling, cut the deck in half. Take the card on top of the second pile (i.e., the card that was in the middle of the deck before it was cut).
Read the card. That is your answer.
Examples:
Five of Cups – Your child will be melancholic, gentle, quiet, sensitive, pensive.
King of Swords – Your child will be intellectual and ambitious, but at times cold and distant.
The Sun – Your child will be optimistic and charismatic, joyful and playful.

🌙 Cheap Witchcraft Tools + Supplies 🌿
🫙 Save all your jars! Spaghetti sauce jars, baby food jars, pickle jars, jam jars — you get the point. You can use these for storage, spells, rituals and offering. Plus they’re easy and cheap to decorate and customize. A little glue, some scrapbook stuff, rocks, moss etc. The possibilities are endless.
🌼 Go outside and collect nature! Sticks, flowers, dirt, rocks etc. Put your collected pieces into your saved jars lol. It’s easy, free and you never know when dirt specifically from a certain area might come in handy for a ritual or spell. Also you can use your foraged finds to decorate your altar(s) and your jars.
🍋 Save your fruit peels, pits and seeds! They’re super useful for spells and rituals + they’re “free” considering you’re eating the fruit it came from anyways. To dry out your peels you can leave them out in the sun or you can place them in your oven on it’s lowest setting (anything under 170°F) for about 4 hours or until dry.
🔮 Make your own oracle deck! It’s really fun and you get to put your own energy into it, making it that much more special. All you need is a deck of cards from the Dollar Tree. I’d opt for the larger flash cards, they tend to be a bit thicker and larger. Some glue and old magazines, scrapbooking supplies or even just photos printed off the internet. Collage those cards up! For extra security you can seal each card with mod podge.
