Caitlyn is the most reviled character in all of Arcane. Her relationship with Vi is considered oppressor X oppressed. Her on screen sex scene is called disgusting.

Jayce is the most loved character and his relationship with Viktor is reveled as the epitome of romantic and UwU cute gayness despite never kissing Viktor or expressing his love in any explicit way.

Caitlyn's Eyepatch

Something I really like about Caitlyn’s eyepatch is its simplicity. We see other characters in Piltover wearing intricate head/face pieces which look like sculpted artworks- I’m thinking specifically of Shoola following the council attack (and no shade to her it looks fire). No doubt Caitlyn could have something like this.

But in this quiet, private scene between herself and Vi, Caitlyn wears only a simple fabric eye patch. It’s practical and not at all showy, very much like the rest of Caitlyn’s outfit. I think this suits both Caitlyn’s character (she herself is practical and seems to focus little on her appearance), but also her journey as a character.

I made another post about Caitlyn’s act 3 outfits with more detail on this, but in the same way that her uniform and black turtleneck are practical, solemn, and non-showy, the eyepatch is the same. It all makes such a difference to the Caitlyn who was appointed Commander by Ambessa, wearing a cloak Ambessa had prepared with gold, glaring signifiers of power and status. A showy statement piece shrouding Caitlyn.

This is a statement in another way. It speaks to Caitlyn’s journey. She is no longer commander but very much in the ‘fight’ to begin healing the two cities. She has a job to do, and a non-flashy eyepatch suggests intention and practicality- a flashy eye piece would probably be a hindrance more than anything else.

Yet it still draws attention to her lost eye, her sacrifice on her road of atonement. It’s a statement of intention to me. This leader of House Kiramman, this Caitlyn, has paid a price, made a sacrifice, and understands the weight of why. This is nothing to celebrate but something to acknowledge, like a solemn promise.

(and you could perhaps say not wearing an eye patch would do the same, but i like the idea that it's a covering in a similar way to how the turtleneck covers her, she's guarded, and that the physical truth of that injury she shows only to those she feels she can be intimate with- so, Vi)
