Oh well. Lol started off this evening with some hand embellishments on my latest photo art. All was going well the painted deckle edge done the varnish added a pile of hand brushstrokes added. Then the step too far, gold leaf. I didn’t wait long enough for the varnish to dry and the leaf stuck in all the wrong places. Never mind it was fun and relaxing. I will redo the work tomorrow. So its just after midnight, I cant settle to sleep my conscious mind is silent for once but my creative mind is churning around ideas and colours and concepts. I’m excited, Ive just finished the next in the Cherry Natural beauty series, titled “Whats Left after all the blooms have fallen away?” and am already itching to start working on the looking for the right model image to base it on, but I must sleep, well maybe a little longer…….. Take a moment to think of this question not only in the context of the tree blossom but also in reference to all the “embellishments” we do to ourselves to make us stand out from the crowd. But surely whats left after all the blossom has fallen and all the “add ons” have been taken off is whats important, isn’t it? Isn’t what we do and how we treat other people more important than what we have? What does this piece of photo-art say to you? Over the last few weeks I’ve been learning some new techniques to enable me to add my artwork to practical usable items such as mugs, placemats, coasters,chopping boards. Currently I’m working on adding artwork to clothes and also creating images that I can apply to t-shirts using heat transfer foil. To do this I have purchased a sublimation printer, a mug press a cutting machine and a huge swing away heat press. I know I can outsource this type of thing and sell dropshipped products produced in a factory somewhere, but where is the fun or skill in that. Yes it would still be my artwork but it wouldn’t be something I made and that is very important to me. Here are some examples that I’ve made utilising some artwork you may have already seen of the amazing Captain of the Lost Waves. In the picture you can see two placemats, two coasters (which compliment the art mugs I have in my shop) plus some artwork which was mounted on a wood grain photo panel. I also have placemats and coasters made to match the other Fan Art mugs and once I have taken some photos there will be a set of mugs with coasters and placemats available for sale in my website (but feel free to message me if you can’t wait to order a set). These are not mass produced items that you can find on the high street they are hand made by me using professionally produced sublimation blanks.
