E. fasciatus caterpillars are heavily polymorphic and come in several different color morphs- those stripy rainbow ones are from the same population as the green one.

another neat thing about these guys is that most caterpillars drown easily, but since water primrose (Ludwigia) usually grows in standing water, E. fasciatus caterpillars have a propensity for swimming and are often seen wriggling their way through lakes when they need to come ashore to pupate.

Today in the Garden: a new guy! I treated myself to this lovely Cassia for Valentine’s Day. I had a nice one for years but lost it to a freeze a few years ago. Not a Native but it’s the host plant for Cloudless, Orange-barred, and Sleepy Orange Sulfur butterflies as well as serving as a butterfly nectar plant:

I’m getting ready for the Master Gardener Plant Sale!

20 Agapanthus dug up and ready for potting up. Three buckets of Day Lilies unearthed and ready for pots. One glorious chair got a new protective coat and is ready for the auction. Now, a rain barrel to paint. 🙂

Some things don’t need to be said. Think before you speak. Think before you hit send. Putting hate speech out into the world comes with a lot of sadness and often broken hearts. It’s hard, but I’m making the effort. I’ve broken no hearts lately but I’m helping put a couple back together.

Nature is AWESOME! Do you see him? Was on my front porch just waiting to be a cat toy. Put him on a tree, and what camouflage!

As promised, I put my propagation stand together and popped some new rose bush cuttings in for a bit, just until I get them properly situated. Fingers are crossed on this one. The cuttings are from my favorite rose bush at my dad’s house.
