Back to the future?
Is the future of newspapers really online or do they get “back into the hands” of the readers thanks to rollable display technology?
Tumblr media
LG has presented its most recent invention: The OLED rollable display. This invention has the potential of turning all printed newspapers into digital versions. It would be an advantage seen from an environmental perspective as more than 24 billion newspapers are printed and published every year.
But will it work? Are people ready to have digital newspapers on rollable displays? Can you see yourself reading the news from a digital newspaper, one that you can roll up and put in your bag, yet without having your fingers turn black from the ink?
Share your thoughts with us in the comment field.
For more information on the OLED rollable display, check out this video and this picture presentation.

Top 5 Viral YouTube Videos
11 years ago, the first YouTube video was uploaded – a clip that (surprisingly) didn’t feature a superstar or talking animal. No, the first YouTube upload was a video of the site’s co-founder at the zoo. Let’s take a look at our top viral videos from the last decade:
Tumblr media
1. Funny Talking Animals - BBC One (20,185,518 views) Walk on the Wild Side is a 2009 British comedy sketch show on BBC One. It involves the voiceovers to natural film sequences, to give the appearance that the animals are actually talking.
2. The Annoying Orange (176,655,451 views) The Annoying Orange is an American comedy web series created by a former MTV production assistant in 2009. It stars its creator as a talking orange who annoys other fruits, vegetables and various other objects by using jokes.
3. Sneezing Panda Baby (219,701,330 views) Sneezing Baby Panda is a viral video uploaded to YouTube in 2006 that shows a mother panda at a nature reserve in China munching on bamboo while her baby sleeps at her feet. Out of nowhere, the baby sneezes, startling the mother for a second.
4. Funny Cats Compilation (82,199,659 views) Everybody knows them, everybody watches them (at least secretly): Funny cat videos. Always good for a laugh and a little distraction. So, what’s better than a bunch of those funny cats collected in one video?
5.Gangnam Style - Psy (2,526,389,635 views) Gangnam Style is a K-Pop earworm by the South Korean musician Psy. The song was released in 2012 and it became the first YouTube video to reach one billion views. The video became the source for many parodies, such as Rewind YouTube Style. This parody (produced by YouTube) mashes up "Gangnam Style" and the song "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen, while featuring various popular YouTubers and referencing other events of the year 2012.
Recommended extra for you: Harlem Shake Rotating - Lund (Sweden) The Harlem Shake is an Internet meme in the form of a video in which a group of people perform a comedy sketch (or just dance randomly) accompanied by a short excerpt from the song "Harlem Shake". The video was replicated by many people and which became viral in 2013, with thousands of "Harlem Shake" videos being made and uploaded to YouTube every day.

Top 5 Trends in Digital Media
The year 2015 is over and we are not all walking around wearing our virtual reality glasses. At least not yet. Keeping this in mind, let’s have a look at what we can expect from this years’ future:
Tumblr media
1. Social Selling: Since the year 2015, several social media networks have introduced buying options on their platforms. One example for social selling are the Buyable-Pins on Pinterest. Facebook is currently testing a new form of e-commerce with a so called shopping feed that will turn your news feed into a virtual store window for advertisers.
2. Mobile Live Streaming: Live-steaming had its breakthrough in 2015 with the mobile app Meerkat but ill surely find its way into our daily live on other social media. Other platforms have meanwhile developed their own apps and functions for this purpose, like Twitters Periscope as well as the live-stream function on Facebook. This offers new ways for companies how to interact with fans and followers: Announcements, breaking news and Q&A-sessions can now engage customers in real-time and with full-video to interact with a company.
3. On-Platform-Content: Social Media sites, like Facebook are now trying to get users to upload content directly on their pages rather than just sharing content from other sites. While previously users used third-party pages, e.g. YouTube or WordPress to create content and then share it on Facebook, now it should be possible to upload it directly to their site. The goal for social media sites is to retain users on their sites for longer time.
4. Ephermeral: „Ephemerality“ originates from the Greek word „Ephemeros“ which translates to „something that only lasts a day“. Social media pages use this function to put something like and expiration date on content. Examples of this trend are Snapchat or Periscope which already introduced the self-destruction function to their services.
5. Reciprocal Ratings: It’s not only the company who gets rated online. Thanks to companies like AirBnB or Uber, it has become more and more common that the consumer of an online service as well as the provider get rated. The driving force behind this trend might be consumers’ desire for building trust in the digital world where privacy and security are users’ biggest concerns.
