When the hustling bustling city turns into a traditional royal city where you see a herd of elephants walking on the streets with their mahouts guiding them. An elaborate fair set up attracting a lot of foreign and local visitors. When the city turns sparkling clean to welcome thousands of tourists and transports everybody back to age-old era filled with festivities and celebrations. When the city comes alive filling its atmosphere with the aromas of celebrations. When the night gets illuminated with lights all across, one knows it’s time for Mysuru Dasara.

LEGEND OF MYSURU DASARA:
As per mythology, the history of Mysore Dussehra dates back to the times when Goddess Chamundeshwari of Chamundi Hill killed the cruel buffalo headed monster, Mahishasura. To celebrate this victory over evil, the Mysore Dussehra is celebrated with grand pomp and show. The city Mysore (Mahishur) as called in previous times also got its name from this demon.
It is also believed that Pandavas had hidden their weapons beneath the Banni tree during their one-year period of Agnatavasa (living life incognito). The kings worshipped this tree to help them feat the victory in the war. That’s the place where Dasara festivities culminate on the night of Vijayadashami in the grounds at Bannimantap called as Panjina Kavayatthu (torch-light parade).
The festival dates all the way back to 1610 when Wadiyar King, Raja Wadiyar I started it. With his wife, King performed a pooja to worship Goddess Chamundeshwari in Chamundi Temple, situated on top of Chamundi Hill in Mysore. In 1805, Krishnaraja Wadiyar III held a special durbar (royal assembly) at Mysore Palace for the first time On Dasara. Only during therule of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV in 1894-1940, the celebrations became magnificent.
FESTIVITIES OF MYSURU DASARA:
Mysore Dasara is an elaborate 10 day affair during which the architectural marvel, Mysore palace gleams with a mammoth series of 1 lakh incandescent lights for 3 hours everyday. The illuminated palace turns into a photographers’ delight and its silhoutte is a most spectacular sight to behold. A series of events like film festival, cultural dance show, various sports events, hot air balloon ride, flower show, dasara procession, torch-light parade and so many more events take place during the 10 days of the festivities.

The most popular event, Mysuru Dasara procession locally known as Jumbo Savari takes place on the day of Vijayadashmi and is attended in a huge number. People start assembling in queue 2 hours in advance so as to get the front seats to witness the spectacle of procession parades and ceremonies. The event begins with the royal couple offering prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari. Soon after, the Goddess in Golden Howdah is seated on one chosen elephant which marks the beginning of the procession through the streets of Mysore starting from the Mysore palace till Bannimantap Grounds. The procession soon turns into a convoy of ornated elephants, horses and camels moving along the chosen elephants. Artists from various parts of Karnataka exhibit their culture in form of spellbinding performances. The sequenced tableau reveals the stories of different parts of the state adding to the vibrance of the artists performing alongside illustration. The march past of people in uniforms, the music played by police bands and the dances performed by masked people surely leaves people awestruck. The torch-light parade marks the climax of 10 day Mysore Dussehra festival. The amazing firework display, laser show and daredevil show by Indian Army bike riders are a pure delight to watch.

What to eat while in Chennai - The Chennai food trail
I didn't have any itinerary in my mind and I believe that turned out to be the best thing I did while visiting Chennai. I got to live like locals, took a local train ride, ate at the best places which only a local would know, tried new joints, chilled at the beach which tourists wouldn't go to, aimlessly walked through the alleys of the oldest mall of Chennai.
In a country like India, every city has distinguished things to offer in terms of art, culture, tradition, heritage and food. Mentioning of food, every few kms affect the flavors of food so much so that a foodie like me can easily differentiate the taste, smell and texture of food. To know and appreciate the authentic local cuisine, you must have a local friend who is more excited than you are to…

The winds caressed my face, eyes glued to the lush green sides of the road, skin gleamed with slight drizzle, playful sound of wind while cruising through the smooth Karnataka highways before I reached Wayanad this monsoon.
Tumblr media
Road trips are definitely my kind of travel but bike road trips? Ummm… I didn’t know so much. There had not been a single road trip when I didn’t notice a series of bikers zipping through the highways in biking jackets and knee guards bedazzling the passers by with the classic sound of bullets.  To figure how it is like to be a part of this kind of clan, I headed on to my first bike road trip to Wayanad upon invitation by Scoutmytrip – an ultimate road trip planner, Onn bikes – a self ride bike rental and Wandertrails – experts in the real experiential stays and activities.
Tumblr media
The Bike Ride
First being first, I was excited from the time I reached the meeting point from where we were supposed to kick start our journey. The excitement multiplied on meeting the like minded travel enthusiasts, travel bloggers and passionate bikers. We assembled at the starting point to find our shining chariots – 7 Royal Enfield and 1 Avenger from Onnbikes stable lined up beautifully. I didn’t have the slightest of idea that so much discipline goes into group bike rides unless I heard the briefing from Scoutmytrip team and Onn Bikes team. The briefing included the sequencing of the bikes and cars (2 cars accompanied us) at all times in a zig zag pattern, next pit stop, to ensure the head lights are switched on at all times , to switch off the light for an indication and route to be taken for the 350 km ride to Wayanad.
Tumblr media
I chose to be a pillion to Srinidhi, a fellow travel blogger and hopped on to the only Avenger of the group. We cruised through the Bangalore Mysore highway to reach our first pit stop at Kamath restaurant for an authentic South Indian breakfast. In no time, we were on our way and cruised on the buttery roads dotted with marigold flowers on both sides of the highway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My focus sharpens every time I pass through the Bandipur National Park to spot wildlife of that area and this time too was not any different. We swiftly passed through the stretch and halted at our next pit stop for a tea break (of course smoke break too – that goes without saying). We then zoomed away the remaining kms only to stop at our last pit stop for lunch in Sultan Bathery. After a quick lunch and an immediate fix by Onn bikes team in one of the bikes, we were on road again to hit our destination in Wayanad.
     Our stay in Wayanad
Sun had set when we reached Wayanad but our resort was still an adventurous 20 min 4X4 jeep ride away. We had parked our bikes and hopped on to the jeep to get enthralled by the drive till the nature camp. The broken trails replaced the roads, the darkness took the place of well lit town of Vythiri which we had just passed by, the gushing sound of water stream made us forget the sounds of bullet and the wilderness took over in the most raw form possible.
Tumblr media
During the ride, I could fore see what coming 2 days at Dare 5000 Nature Camp by Wandertrails would be like. We were welcomed by none other than lush forests, the enchanting birds, the wild and yet the most comfortable beds after a long ride from Bangalore to Wayanad. The resort appeared to be a sure respite to my craving of untouched natural beauty.

The bonfire was set and the experiences of travelers were shared over a sumptuous spread of local cuisine. The night went by in the comfort of nature and lullabies of birds.
The rainy morning gave a sneak peek of mind blowing views from the resort and I started hoping for clear views. I sipped my perfectly made black tea at the breakfast table while others started joining for breakfast. We were served with the most delicious idli sambhar cooked with immense love for sure.
It was indeed a relaxed morning where all of us were still deciding what activities to do for the day. With a bunch of activities like ziplining, valley crossing, laddering, archery, burma bridge, trekking at offer, we zeroed down to hiking up-till a private waterfall of the property. Hold up your jaw while I reveal about visiting the waterfall and other jaw dropping things we did at the resort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rains decided to not go on a break and come with us on our hike to the waterfall. All of us got ready in our rain gear and followed the care taker of the resort who agreed to lead us. It came across as an easy trek of 30-40 mins but quite a slippery one. We crossed the water streams, got attacked by leeches (I got spared somehow), held on to the rope fixed by resort people and took careful steps till the waterfall.
Tumblr media
I have always known that waterfalls look glorious in the monsoons but this sight was beyond words. It was a huge waterfall making the most sensuous sounds and indeed all of us fell in love with it instantly. While few of us crossed from one side to another and looked to be meditating right under the cold water of the falls, few of us were still struggling with the leeches and few were busy adoring the falls. After a playful time at falls, we headed back to the resort and were served with another mouth watering meal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The conversations didn’t seem to end before we were called to witness another breathtaking sight. A small trail leading to a private sun set point of the resort. The magnificent view from 5000 feet above sea level of lush green forests, sun’s godly rays enlightening a part of the valley did leave my awestruck. I just couldn’t get enough of the mystical views which I had been hoping to see since morning.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
After enough pampering of eyes, it was time to pamper the tongue with hot pakoras and tea in the company of endless travel talks and a slight drizzle.
We decided to know each other a little better by playing a popular game Mafia. To say the least, we bonded well over this game and are still sharing Mafia jokes with each other even after 15 days of the trip. It was now time for dinner and this meal was also no less delicious than we have had till now. The simply cooked meal with authentic flavors completely bowled me over.
The next morning we hogged on some yum breakfast and with a heavy heart, we bid goodbye to the lovely people at the resort and started our journey back. This time I was a pillion to Sameera, a girl biker and we were talking to the wind in no time. We halted for lunch at a dhaba and ate to our soul’s appetite. I opted to sit in the car with Wandertrails team for a relaxed drive for the remaining leg of the journey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ride and the stay were planned to the finest details to make the experience memorable. The experiences which I garnered and the friends I made over the long weekend trip will be cherished forever.
P.S. – This road trip was planned and sponsored by Scout My Trip, Onn Bikes and Wandertrails.
The winds caressed my face, eyes glued to the lush green sides of the road, skin gleamed with slight drizzle, playful sound of wind while cruising through the smooth Karnataka highways before I reached Wayanad this monsoon. Waterbom Bali - A thrilling waterpark experience
I had scribbled "Waterbom Bali" on some piece of paper while planning my trip for Bali but had not really thought that I will visit a water park on my trip to Indonesia. I mean come on who visits a water park on an international vacation but on the contrary it turned out to be the most audacious experience of all our time spent in Indonesia.

The original hills of coffee, Chikmagalur had been on my mind for years for its soothing climate, coffee estates and rich history. Yet, I couldn’t visit this serene hill town till last week. So, when Java Rain Resort, Chikmagalur invited me for the review of their newly opened property, I gladly accepted the invite and started planning my trip to Chikmagalur.
Chikmagalur is at a smooth drive of around 250 kms from Bengaluru and it took us 5 hours on a Friday evening. We reached the resort late night around 12:30 am and were received by the staff there who escorted us to our suite. To our amazement, the dinner in hotcase was kept in our room even at that hour and we hogged on the delicious food before retiring for the day.
—–ABOUT THE RESORT—–
The resort is tucked in the centre of an active coffee plantation spread over a huge area. The resort is the result of sheer love for world class hospitality and is owned by a Bengaluru based couple who have the most extraordinary restaurants in Bengaluru like 100ft, Boutique Bar Restaurant, India Nagar and Bay leaf, Kormangla in their kitty of success.
The credit for the astounding architecture of the resort belongs to Cadence architects. The unique towers at the reception to the quirky shape of the swimming pool to the seating area outside the Mirra restaurant overlooking the town of Chikmagalur to the exceptionally brilliant factoring of space and comfort in the villas and suites to the tall handsome structure of upcoming Crimson peak bar, the resort has it all what is needed to escape the taxing city life and rejuvenate from within.

—–ROOMS—–
There are 21 luxurious villas immersed so much so in coffee that their names are also based on coffee. The 3 different categories are called Kaffa – single villa with the open shower and a view of sky, Qahva – the interconnected twin villas with private jacuzzi and Fika – presidential suite with private pool, jacuzzi and magnificent view of the hills. I was offered the experience of Kaffa for a night and Qahva for another to experience both categories.

Mirra Restaurant : A lavish and delicious spread is served at the Mirra restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is truly said that the place is known by its food and Java Rain resort served the best of authentic local food along with a huge variety of other cuisines as well. The restaurant overlooks the swimming pool on one side and on the other the luscious green valley and Chikmagalur town.

The Crimson Peak bar: A multi level bar with exquisite seating and most gorgeous views left me spell bound. It is still under final touch ups before it gets launched. I could climb many more levels of the bar for the bird eye’s view of the town, Mullayanagiri hills and the lake in its vicinity. The mist kept rolling down and played peekaboo with us before we could relish the sight of the entrancing hills.

The deck which comes with all the villas was my favorite spot where I spent time reading, introspecting and having some memorable conversations with R.
Luxury and great coffee competed with each other but to my delight both went hand in hand eventually.
A blissful weekend retreat where I whilst my time away in the lap of nature soothing my eyes with the views around, chilling in my private jacuzzi, reading a book and spending a memorable time with my love.

Places to see in Chikmagalur:
Mullayanagiri Peak – The highest peak of Karnataka is sure to transport you to mystical world with mist floating around you and lush greenery accompanying you till the top.
Baba Budangiri temple – Perched atop hill is a place dedicated to a smuggler saint who sneaked out 7 coffee beans and planted those in the fertile land of Chikmagalur. Then began the era of coffee in Chikmagalur.
Galikere lake – A secret lake perched atop the hill whose source remains unknown and has a lot of theories around it. Gorge in the breathtaking views from the lake.
Hebbe falls – The most stunning waterfalls in Chikmagalur with white foaming waters sliding by the mountain and making a perfect picture postcard.

A day's hike to Adam's Peak, Sri Lanka | My Travel Recitals
Lately I have started incorporating one day hikes and sometimes moderate treks in my travels so that I can keep stretching my physical strength and mental endurance. The idea of attempting one such back-breaking hike struck me while I was designing my itinerary of Sri Lanka. While researching about adventure in Srilanka, I came across a strenuous hike to Adam's Peak. It absolutely appeared out of reach considering the difficulty of the climb and my not so fit body. More for "my not so fit body". After a lot of deliberation, I had put this preposterous climb on my trajectory while in Srilanka.
There are times when I overestimate myself and plunge to take up things which I eventually discover to be immensely challenging. But then I ponder, “That’s precisely the reason why I want to travel often”. A little contradictory. That’s how most things in life are. Isn’t it? My travels these days aren’t about sight-seeing and ticking the places off my list anymore. I intend to take up activities…

All I wanted was some fresh air, a new crisp book in my hands, Coorg style filter coffee, good home cooked food and relief from Bengaluru heat.
With an aim of doing absolutely nothing and relaxing to the bits on a weekend, I with a group of friends planned to head to Coorg but without the intention of seeing the touristy Coorg. All of us just wanted an uninterrupted relaxation with no hurry of reaching a spot to see sunrise / sunset or any of the other attractions of the town.
Tumblr media
On a friend’s recommendation, we decided on staying put at Keremane estate which is located in a small cozy village of Coorg called Bekke Sodlur. We had put Keremane estate’s location on map and drove through the scenic landscapes and reached the homestay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—–About the homestay—–
Keremane estate means “house on lake side”, true to its literal meaning has a deep man-made lake amidst the 5 acre wide estate. The estate has 5 mud house cottages with the straw laden roof to give the cottage most simple and earthy feel. The lesser number of cottages makes sure that people get privacy and can have a good time with their loved ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—–Room—–
The mud house cottages surely transported me to villages where the basics and simplicity are still preserved. The roofs laden with straw gave the entire cottage a very rustic feel. The cottages were although equipped with basics yet so well done up from inside boasting the local art on the walls. Comfortable mattresses were laid on an elevated section of floor to make you feel all the more humble and grounded. Everything looked so basic that got me worried about the bathroom. To my absolute relief, bathroom was all modern and extremely clean. Now, I was really sorted for my stay here.
I spent most of my time sitting in the porch outside the cottage reading my book.  The porch had enough space to lie down and chill. I think the porch was my favorite spot of the home stay.
Tumblr media
Friend chilling in the porch
Tumblr media
Happy relaxed faces chilling in the porch
—-Open Dining Area—–
There is an open dining section in the estate where we indulged in delicious, authentic Coorg style home cooked food with cool breeze as an accompaniment. The wall of the dining area left me in an awe of creativity as it was beautifully hand painted featuring the food specialties, local lifestyle, culture and major attractions of Coorg.
Tumblr media
    —–Our time there—–
We had started early morning and took a halt at Bylakuppe Monastery also called as Golden Temple. I have been there multiple times but my love for monasteries never let me go away without a visit to them. Also, my friends were visiting this monastery for the first time, so we called for a halt there. It’s a perfect quick detour when you are heading to Keremane homestay.
Tumblr media
We reached Keremane estate by 2pm. We were served with appetizing Coorg style meal with a lot of variety on our plate. Yup, I was too hungry to click a picture of the food.
I went on to read my book while others retired for a short nap. Around 5pm, we were served with hot piping filter coffee with pakoras. What more one would want when on spur of moment, it starts raining.  I kept going gaga over the ingenuousness of the place and the food served.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earlier while having lunch, we had seen a carrom board kept in the dining area hoping to play after coffee. And here we were taking our places to play carrom.
Time passed by and we went with the flow of the day and soon the sun dissolved leaving orange and pink hues on sky.
We read, chatted, played and chilled till our dinner was ready. We sat by the bonfire and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner before calling it a day.
Tumblr media
We woke up to the chit chattering of the little birdies and clicked few pictures in their appreciation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While our breakfast was getting ready, we had time to roam around and what we found was enough to bring out the child in all of us. The trees with berries loaded made us jump heights to pluck those. We hadn’t enjoyed the berries enough before we were called for an appetizing portion of breakfast. To avoid the traffic woes, we left in time for Bengaluru.
—–How to reach there—–
A drive to Keremane estate is highly recommended as it takes you through the spectacular views and you might get lucky as we got to see some wildlife on the way while passing through Nagarhole Reserve.
The drive of 5 hours zip zapping through the swift roads and relishing the beauteous landscapes will lead you to this humble abode.
Alternatively, you can take a bus till Virajpet and then an auto till Keremane estate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you have a story of weekend escapade where the only plan was to do nothing at all?
Tumblr media
