man why don’t we use thought balloons in comics anymore......i know we have narration boxes but it’s not the SAME. bc narration boxes almost always have a performative quality to them. it’s like the character is consciously giving a monologue, or telling the story to someone. whereas thought balloons show what the character is thinking, as they are thinking it, in the privacy of their own head. the character is not aware of the presence of an audience the way they seem to be with narration boxes. thought balloons show us what they are feeling more nakedly, without pretense. they provide the reader a more intimate and honest look into the characters mind
