لكم لبنانكم و لي لبناني

مئة و خمسون عاما يعيش فيها لبنان و شعبه جميع أنواع الحروب... حرب أهلية ثانية طائفية و أخرى مذهبية و اجتياحات عدوانية و أثمان تخبطات إقليمية و تصفيات و صفقات دولية. مئة و خمسون عاما و أصبح فيها لبنان الصغير كبيرا جدّا بجراحه بمآسيه اليومية. مئة و خمسون عاما من وجع في أغلب أحيانه صامد و صامت

مرت عصور و مئات السنين ولا زالت الطائفية تنخر في عقول الشعب اللبناني... اجتاحت الطائفية في 1860 عقول الدروز و الموارنة حيث قاموا بمجازر طاحنة بينهم البعض ثم انتقلت إلى عقول المسلمين والمسيحيين في العام 1975 حت�� العام 1990. المسيحي تظاهر وكأنه يؤمن بالمسيح و المسلم تظاهر و كأنه يؤمن بالنبي محمد و لكنهم للأسف لا يؤمنون إلا بالسلاح ثم انتقل هذا العدوى المشين إلى عقول السنة والشيعة حتى يومنا هذا

وطني يبكي وطني ينزف وطني يعيشه شعب طائفي شعب لا يؤمن الا بالمذهبية و الفتنة شعب لا يكترث بعروبته شعب يحقد على أخيه فقط لأنه من طائفة أخرى شعب يقتل ابن وطنه لأن الجهل و الجحد طغى على عقولهم الناقصة. استيقظوا و انظروا الى ما فعلتم بالوطن الذي حماكم الوطن الذي جاهد لكي يحافظ على شعبه الوطن الذي ضحى من أجل كرامة و سيادة شعبه الوطن الذي تحما انانيتكم و طيشكم و غباؤكم الوطن الذي ضمكم الى رحاب صدره الواسع و جمعكم كلكم على انكم لبنانيون تجمعكم المودة و الرحمة. فكيف كافأتموه؟ تخليتم عنه و نسيتموه حيث اتخذتم السبيل الخاطئ السبيل الذي لا يملك حس الوطنية السبيل الذي فقد معنى الانسانية... فيا وطني الحبيب لا تحزن و لا تبكي فكيف لشعب يكترث على وطنه و هو لا يكترث على دماء أخيه؟

جبيل

تعتبر مدينة جبيل من أقدم المدن في العالم و أشهر المواقع الأثرية ومن بين المواقع القليلة التي استمر عمرها منذ إنشائها حتى اليوم تركوا الآشوريون البابليون الفرس الإغريق الرومان البيزنطيون و العثمانيون بصمة لن تنمحي عن أرض جبيل من خلال المعالم الأثرية و المتاحف التي يقصدها السواح حتى اليوم

العاصمة بيروت

عندما بدأت لأكتب عن بيروت و معالمها التاريخية لم يأتي أي شيء في ذهني إلا عن مدى قوة هذه العاصمة و كيف صمدت مع مرور كل هذه الصعوبات و الأزمات على لبنان فظلت واقفة شامخة أبية

بيروت لا استطيع بكلماتي أن أوقف نزيف جرحك الذي لا يزال ينزف الى هذا اليوم تصارعين الظلام و تقهرين الشجون و تغني للسلام فيزهر الزيتون بيروت انت رمز الحرية و ضمان الاستقلالية و لكن شعبك هو الذي يفرط فيكي و لا يرى محاسنك و جمالك

صيدا

تتميز صيدا بأنها عريقة وغارقة في التاريخ، ومن الآثار التي تروي حكاياتها: المدينة القديمة، القلعة البحرية، القلعة البرية، الميناء ومرافئ الصيادين، الجامع العمري الكبير، الكنائس وخان الإفرنج والحمامات الأثرية. كما تتمتع المدينة بمزايا عدة: فهي مركز المحافظة، وفيها وظائف تجارية متطورة، وتتميز أيضاَ بفرادة واجهتها البحرية ومنطقتها التراثية، ومأكولاتها وحلوياتها المتنوعة؛ كل هذا يجعل منها نقطة جذب سياحية مهمة، إضافة إلى انفتاحها على المناطق الزراعية في جنوب لبنان. وتضم منطقة صناعية واقعة في جنوبها. وتمتلك أيضاً مقدرات مهمة في حقل الإسكان، بفضل التلال المحيطة بها والمطلة على البحر، والتي شهدت نمواً عمرانياً ملحوظاً

العادات و التقاليد اللبنانية القديمة

رجل عاش عصرين حيث رأى الفرق الشاسع بين الأيام القديمة التي يتحسر عليها لكي يمضي منها المزيد من الوقت قبل موته و الأيام التي يعيشها اليوم المليئة بالفسق و الأنانية كما وصفها حيث نفسية الشخص تغيرت الى الأسوء

يرتدي سكان القرى في لبنان زي يطلق عليه اسم الشروال و الطربوش احيانا وهذا اللباس من عناصر الفلكلور اللبناني

عند زواج احد الفتيات فإنها تقوم بالدوس على اقدام الفتيات العازبات كبركة لهن بالزواج القريب

تقوم العروس بوضع عجينة على باب منزلها الجديد – منزل الزوجية- كدلالة على انها تجيد الطبخ و انها ستلتصق في البيت مثل العجينة و لن تتخلى عن بيت زوجها ابدا

من الامور المعروفة في لبنان ايضا مونة الشتاء والتي يتم فيها تجميع الطعام و تخزينه في أيلول ، و يتم تحضير بعض المأكولات مثل الزيتون ، المكدوس ، الجبنة و غيرها في شهر تشرين الثاني

عند بروز اول سن للطفل ، يتم تحضير ال " كراوية " وهي طبق حلويات يحضر من القمح و يتم توزيعه على الاهل و الجيران لتخفيف ألم التسنين لدى الطفل

في حال ان امرأة تعبت و صعبت ولادتها فإنها ترتدي بعض من ثياب زوجها مثل الطربوش

تعلقي بلبنان

الذي جعلني أن أتعلق أكثر وأكثر ببلدي ووطني أشخاص رفعوا اسم لبنان تشبثوا بهذا الوطن تشبثا عميقا فيروز غنت للبنان و لعاصمتها و غنت أغاني وطنية تصف من خلالها جمال لبنان و ماذا فعلوا بالوطن أما جبران خليل جبران استطاع بكلماته ان يعبر عن ما بداخل كل شخص يفتخر بعروبته استطاع بأشعاره ان يصف لبنان كما هو و الاشخاص الذين ينتمون الى وطنهم من خلال قصيدة تعبر بالحرف الواحد عن ما اشعره تجاه لبنان

لكم لبنانكم و معضلاته ، و لي لبناني وجماله .

لكم لبنانكم بكل ما فيه من الأغراض و المنازع ، ولي لبناني بما فيه من الأحلام و الأماني .

لكم لبنانكم فاقنعوا به ، ولي لبناني و أنا لا أقنع بغير المجرد المطلق .

لبنانكم عقدة سياسية تحاول حلها الأيام ، أما لبناني فتلول تتعالى بهيبة و جلال نحو ازرق��ق السماء .

لبنانكم مشكلة دولية تتقاذفها الليالي ، أما لبناني فأودية هادئة سحرية تتموج في جنباتها رنات الأجراس و أغاني السواقي .

لبنانكم صراع بين رجل جاء من المغرب و رجل جاء من الجنوب ، أما لبناتي فصلاة مجنحة ترفرف صباحاً عندما يقود الرعاة قطعانهم إلى المروج ووتصاعد مساء عندما يعود الفلاحون من الحقول و الكروم .

لبنانكم حكومات ذات رؤوس لا عداد لها ، أما لبناني فجبل رهيب وديع جالس بين البحر و السهول جلوس شاعر بين الأبدية و الأبدية .

Major Theater Production at LAU

Every year a major theatre production is held at LAU tackling a specific issue. This year’s major production was under the title of “How I Learned to Drive” a play written by Paula Vogel and directed by Lina Khoury. The play’s first performance was on the 4th of December and will continue till the 13th of December excluding the 8th at LAU, Gulbenkian Theatre at 8:30 p.m. The tickets vary between 10,000 L.L and 15,000L.L and are sold at Gulbenkian ticket booth.

The two main characters of the play are Tamara Popvic playing the role of Lil Bit and Sami Hamdan playing the role of Uncle Peck. The bittersweet drama play starts with Lil Bit as an adult, addressing the audience as if she is giving a lecture about how to drive. She describes Maryland during her childhood in the 1960’s and then the setting dissolves into 1969 with her uncle peck sitting in a car, and what basically happens is 11 year old Lil bit climbs in next to him. He takes the role of a child, telling her that he has been good and she acts like an authority figure to him. As the play goes on Peck evolves into a more authoritative character, by the end of the play he is back in a child’s place and end up dependent on Lil Bit. And when she doesn’t quite react to him in the way he was expecting he decided to drink more and eventually kill himself. The play mainly focuses on emotional manipulation and sexual molestation all of which are tied together with driving lessons given by her uncle Peck.

“How I Learned to Drive” tackles important issues that should be brought up in order to raise awareness of critical subjects such as pedophilia, sexual predation, alcoholism and family dysfunction which are relevant and deserving of our attention. Bringing up such topics and illustrating them through a play offers a better understanding and the tendency to treat them empathetically rather than judgmentally. In spite of the serious situation, there are many comical elements of the play, which avoids the expected condemnation of this situation to look at the basic humanity that binds these two characters.

It uses innovative staging techniques to fade from one time frame to another and one place to the next. It also uses just three actors, in addition to those playing Lil Bit and Peck, to represent all of the other characters who affect their lives, especially their intimidating rural Maryland family. The addition of popular music from the early-and late-1960s, such as "Dream Baby" and "Little Surfer Girl," helps audiences understand the prevailing mood of the era. The actors boosted up the whole performance of the play because they were talented and played their roles in a professional way.

However, there are many disturbing and vulgar scenes that I personally did not like, such as the rape of Lil Bit and how Uncle Peck showed the audience his sexual tendency towards Lil Bit. These scenes can be showed in different ways although some people might think that the way it was presented was realistic but personally I think it would have been better if it was portrayed in another way.

Finally, “How I Learned to Drive” is not told with a straightforward plot but is instead an uneven mixture of flashbacks, narration and monologues.

نموذج الأمم المتحدة لغدٍ أفضل

افتتحت الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية نموذج الأمم المتحدة العاشر لصفوف المرحلة الثانو��ة و الخامس لصفوف المرحلة المتوسطة يوم السّبت الواقع في 15 تشرين الثاني الذي أُقيم في قاعة أروين في حرم الجامعة تحت شعار ليف ذا ليغيسي بحضور وزير الثقافة روني عريجي، مستشار البنك الدولي فيليب قرقفي، مدير دائرة التدريب والتطويرفي مصرف لبنان محمد الجبري،النائب و الوزيرالسابق باسم السبع و حشد من السفراء المعنيين

قبل أن يتولى منسّق البرنامج حسن بعلبكي كلمة يرحّب فيها الحضور الأعزاء، وقف�� الجميع على ألحان و كلمات النشيد الوطني اللبناني و كأنهم جبال متشبثة على أرض الوطن و رؤوسهم مرفوعة بالرغم من الإختلافات و المشاكل التي نواجهها في عالمنا العربي اليوم

وجّه الوزير عريجي كلمة يحي فيها المبادرة التي نفذتها الجامعة و ذلك بهدف الإطّلاع و التمرّن على المهارات القيادية و الدبلوماسية قائلاً :"نعتز بنيل جامعتكم جائزة الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة بالتوالي بين العام 2012 و العام 2014 لأفضل وفد طلابي يشارك في مؤتمر عدد مشاركيه 2500 طالباً من أكثر من 140 معهداً تربوياً عالمياً. هذه جائزة تمنح للطلاب الذين يجسدون تفوقاً للأداء السياسية الدبلوماسية". مشيراً أيضاً إلى أهميّة البرنامج لبناء مستقبل واعد وواع و أكّد للطلاب على ضرورةاللإنخراط في البرنامج و الإيمان بمفاهيم حلّ النزاعات و اعتماد الدبلوماسية سبيلاَ لذلك

استُكمل الحفل بكلمة دخلت إلى قلوب الحاضرين حيث رسخّت المعنى الحقيقي لبناء غدٍ أفضل من خلال عزمه، إرادته، ثقته بنفسه و شغفه لهذا البرنامج. هي كلمة الأمين العام لنموذج الأمم المتحدة مارك أسد الذي قال:" قبل عقد من الزمان فتحت الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية أبوابها للمرة الأولى من أجل استقبال طلاب المدارس الثانوية الذين لا يملكون أي فكرة بما ينتظرهم في الأيام المقبلة. قبل عقد من الزمان تحوّلت صفوفنا الأكاديمية إلى لجان الأمم المتحدة ممّا جعل الطلاب سفراء يتقنون عملية مناقشة القضايا العالمية. قبل عقد من الزمان ول�� نموذج الأمم المتحدة في الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية". و من ثم توجه بخطابه إلى كلمة للطلاب المشاركين الذين من خلالهم تصل مبادئ البرنامج مؤكّداً لهم:" لكم أيّها الطلاب، نحن نعرب عن إمتناننا العميق لأنّ بمثابرتكم استطعتم زيادة معايير البرنامج عاماً بعد عاماً و لكن جهودكم كلّها بفضل الدعم الا محدود لمستشاروا مدارسكم". و تابع كلمته متوجهاً للأشخاص الذين عملوا لتحقيق نجاح هذا البرنامج للسنة العاشرة على التوالي. بدأ مع المدير التنفيذي في القيادة و المشاركة المدنية في الجامعة إلي سميا :" أنت حالم، و قد ألهمتنا جميعاً بأن نفكر إلى أبعد الحدود". و انتقل إلى منسق البرنامج حسن بعلبكي ليصفه بمثابة أخيه و معلمه. ثم توجه إلى سكراتارية هذا العام ليصفهم بالأساطير. و ختم:" يا أيّها الحضور الأعزاء، نموذج الأمم المتحدة ل��س نشاطاً، بل وسيلة للحياة". بعدها أعطى مارك الكلمة لأمين عام البرنامج في السنة الماضية وليام نصر و الأمين العام لعام 2012 جو أبي سليمان حيث تكلما عن تجربتهم الأكثر من رائعة بالنسبة لهما

بعد كلمة الأمين العام، عرض إلي ساميا للحضور أهم الحقائق منذ بداية البرنامج إلى اليوم معلناً عن اشتراك 172 مدرسة و 2430 طالبة و طالباً من جميع الأراضي اللبنانية في السنة العاشرة للبرنامج

بعد ذلك توجّهوا سكراتارية هذا العام إلى المسرح و أخذوا باليمين حيث أكّدوا انضمامهم للبرنامج، و من ثمّ ضرب الأمين العام المطرقة و أعلن بدء برنامج هذا العام. و انتهى الحفل بصورة تذكاريةتتضمن السكراتارية و كل من ساهم في تفعيل و تحقيق هذا البرنامج للسنة العاشرة

بعد انتهاء الحفل، توجهوا مستشاروا المدارس إلى مبنى كلية إدارة الأعمال ليجتمعوا مع الأمين العامو المدير التنفيذي من أجل الأجوبة على أسئلتهم

نموذج الأمم المتحدة عمل على توعية الشباب من أجل اكتساب روح الدبلوماسية، القيادية، الإحترام و التعاطي السليم مع الآخر. لعلّ هؤلاء الشباب يرسموا الصورة التي لا طالما الشعب اللبناني يحلم بها، لعلّهم يصبحون زعماء فعالين في بلدهم الحبيب لبنان و يسهروا ليلاً لتلبية حاجات المواطنين، لعلهم يمحوا الدماء ويستبدلوه بالسلام الأبدي. لعلّ نموذح الأمم المتحدة يكون لغدٍ أفضل

Over the years with the enhancement in the methods and ways of social media journalism has undergone a great change. The ways of presenting and analyzing the news have varied greatly. Social media sites play a major role in delivering the news which led to the introduction of the term "Social Journalism".

Social Media Usage by Journalists:

78% of journalists use social media on a daily basis.Twitter (90%), Facebook (81%).

Journalists are making more active use of social media to raise issues. Last year 43% of journalists used social media for these purposes; in 2014 this has increased to 57%.

73% of journalists approach the target group with publications on a weekly basis.

72% of journalists consider social media to be important to the performance of their daily work.

56% of journalists are no longer able to perform their duties without social media. A quarter of journalists said they are able to work without social media.

68% of journalists believe that journalism can no longer operate without social media.

The Arab Spring and Social Media

Journalism and Freedom of Speech :

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be world press freedom day to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of press. According to Reporters Without Borders, more than a third of the world’s people live in countries where there is no press freedom.

Reporters Without Borders reports that, in 2003, 42 journalists lost their lives pursuing their profession and that, in the same year, at least 130 journalists were in prison as a result of their occupational activities. In 2005, 63 journalists and 5 media assistants were killed worldwide.

When It Is Not A Freedom Of Speech: (Personal Thought)

I believe that the freedom of speech of a certain person stops when he or she no longer become civilized or respectful when stating his or her opinion.

A Selfie A Day Keeps Your Insecurities Away!

Why do we take selfies? Some people might answer by saying that it makes them feel pretty or they do it because there is someone in particular that comes to mind whenever they post one.

Personally, I believe that doing such act became one of my habits. A positive habit and not negative. Selfies made our lives much easier... Imagine that you were hanging out with a friend, instead of asking a stranger to take a picture of you two you can just take a selfie!

Sometimes the picture a stranger captures might not satisfy you, so it is unlikely for you to ask him/her to take another picture till you get convinced therefore taking a selfie is much easier, you can take photos as much as you can and eventually choose the one that suits you the most. Now, with the evolution of "Selfie Stick" people became more comfortable while taking selfies, it helped in capturing photos from different angles and more people are being able to take one selfie.

Taking selfies is something that I practice because technically I think it is an easy way to take a photo. It is something most of the people got used to however it develops into a bad habit when it becomes an addiction! Therefore, a selfie a day keeps your insecurities away!

“Every Person is Beautiful”

Hala Ajam known also as an inimitable Lebanese-American Mélange is a Lebanese make-up artist; she completed her studies in Beirut and Hollywood. Hala is also known as an expert in make up for photography, TV and movies which gave her the chance to work in a fashion photography studio in LA before she moved back to Beirut and opened her own make up studio in Starco, Downtown.

Hala Ajam worked with many famous celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Nawal El Zoghbi, Shereen Abdel Wahab and many others. She also got involved in several campaigns such as PinkStands4 which is a breast cancer campaign that raise awareness and another campaign called Natural Beauty. In addition to a book she published under the title of “Face to Face”.

Ajam, the talented Lebanese makeup artist visited our Social Media Class at LAU on Monday, October 13, 2014. A Q&A session took place whereby she was able to take us to another world with her presence and remarkable ideas and thoughts.

“We become so close and have fun in only half an hour”, she said. This is how she interacts and bonds with her costumers when asked about her relationship with her clients.

I’ve never seen a makeup artist who is able and capable of making her clients happy and confident about themselves until I listened to Ajam’s answer when she said:” Being a makeup artist, my job is to make her feel good about herself.” Hala added by stating that she works in front of a mirror which makes the client see herself, in this way when Hala sees how the client reacts she can know if she is satisfied or not.

“Less is More” is a motto that Hala believes in. When asked about it specifically she said:” It is a word found in history, 60% of the Lebanese women agree upon it.” Ajam insists on the fact that this motto can be used in everything because less is really more. Women want to feel that they are themselves when they look at the mirror that is why she believes less is more in makeup.

With the flow of the interview and the wonderful interaction happening in that class Hala was able to tell us about the different styles of makeup in Beirut and Los Angeles. She talked about how the eye makeup is different in Lebanon and how her first makeup attempt was rejected because in Lebanon another style was being used. “I was against that but everybody was against me,” she said.

Hala Ajam not only a makeup artist but a passionate person who strived with intelligence and patience made her prove herself and become a successful makeup artist emphasizing and insisting on the beauty of women when she said:” Every person is beautiful, makeup is found to enhance what the women has that’s why Less is More.”
