Chapter 5
Cold, it's so cold. I hate the cold.
It was very slowly warming up and I was just started to come out of the cryofreeze.
The first thing I saw was Rumlow's face staring at the Cryogenic chamber. After I was fully woken up, I was lead to the testing chair to make sure my vitals were healthy.
They deemed me healthy and guards came to escort me out with Agent Rumlow.
We got to Pierce's office. Except, Pierce was no longer there, none of his things were there either.
I suddenly realized why it was Agent Rumlow to get me out of Cryo instead of Mr. Pierce.
Pierce was dead.
Part of me wanted to jump up with joy and the other part wanted to sit and sulk in a corner. Before I could do anything though, Rumlow spoke up.
"Asset, I regret to inform you that your partner, The Winter Soldier, has gone rogue. You have been in Cryofreeze for 2 years. It is time for you to get back in the game."
I looked at him for permission to speak. He nodded his head.
"If I may ask, what happened to Director Pierce?" I asked Rumlow hesitantly.
"He was killed by Nicholas Fury. One of your earlier targets you failed to assassinate." He said with a little bit of disappointment at the end.
I just nodded and hung my head down in shame.
Rumlow spoke up once again. "We have a mission. You are to accompany me while we find something. We will be leaving in 10 minutes. Get your weapons and the guards will escort you to where you need to be."
I nodded my head and let the guards drag me towards the armory.
I grabbed my usual weapons, 2 guns, a few knives and my suit. I went to a separate room to get changed and hide my weapons on me.
After I was done getting ready, it was off to a jet. On it, Rumlow debriefed me on the mission.
"Your mission is to make sure the package doesn't get intercepted, Asset." Rumlow explained.
We reached our destination and got into 4 yellow vans. In front of us, there was a garbage truck meant for a battering ram.
******Time skip cause I'm lazy.******
I was in the middle of a fight with a redhead that felt familiar, but I couldn't place it.
"You." The red head in front of me said surprised, like she knew me somehow, and didn't expect to see me.
I just grunt and lunge at her, she was annoyingly fast so I couldn't get a good hit on her.
Now, she seemed more reluctant to fight me. "You don't have to do this." She very stupidly put down her weapon.
I took this as my chance and lunged at her again, this time landing a deep gash in her cheek with my knife.
"Right, you don't talk. So much for trying not to hurt you." She muttered to herself, I was confused.
Why did she want me to talk, we were fighting?
This time, it was her that lunged at me while I was distracted.
I heard Agent Rumlow's voice in my ear, yelling through the coms.
"Get out of there, Asset!"
I followed his orders, not like I had any choice, and ran away, back to the rendezvous point.
The red head was confused, but luckily didn't follow. While she was looking at me, Rumlow jumped out at her.
I made it back at hid in the shadows, on guard for anything that might jump out and attack me.
Tony Stark (2 years ago)
"Rhodey! Can you come here for a sec?" I yelled over to my best friend.
"Sure Tones." He stood up and walked over.
I took a big breath, preparing myself for what I was about to do. "I want to show you someone."
He nodded and followed me to a locked room, I took out the key and unlocked it.
I walked over to a cabinet and brought down a picture, I wiped the dust away and brought it down so Rhodey could see.
I took another big breath. "This is me, and my little sister." I looked at it guiltily before looking away once more.
"Tony, you never told me you had a sister."
"Only Pepper and you know. It isn't something I'm necessarily proud of. I would say she's dead, but I think I know better." I say and start to pull up a picture on one of my many computers.
"A random number sent this picture to me 7 years ago." I showed him the picture of a girl that looks almost exactly like my sister. Probably because it was her.
Sure, she of course grew up, and other than all the other gear on her and her emotionless expression, and quite a few new scars, she looked exactly the same.
"This was her, most likely 7 years ago. I haven't seen her in 30 years, Rhodey."
"Oh. What happened to her?" Rhodey asked quietly.
I sighed. "30 years ago, I was a horrible person, I'm pretty sure I still am. But anyway, basically, I drove her a few miles out and, I, uh, left her on the side of the road. Apparently, somebody found her, and took her because the next time I drove by, she wasn't there." I sighed and couldn't look my best friend in the eyes.
"She was 5."
Silent Assassin
It's been barely 3 days since my last mission when a HYDRA agent came to my cell to prep me for another mission.
On the walk to the debriefing room, I checked my on the weapons hidden on me.
"Your target is your past partner, the Winter Soldier. If you can bring him back, do it, if you can't, eliminate him." They said.
I nodded and they gave me a file about where he was.
I arrived and broke into his run-down apartment, looking around. I decided to hide in the shadows of the corner by a mattress on the ground.
Another person walked in, the same sort of familiar feeling came over me as I studied him.
Captain America.
He was looking around and thankfully didn't see me yet.
"Heads up Cap, German special forces approaching on the south." A voice sounded, I was unsure of where it came from and figured he must have coms or something.
I saw my target come into the room and came out of the shadows, making my presence clear as well.
Winter looked at me and instantly knew why I was there. Captain America also turned around to see two deadly assassins staring each other down.
The captain went to move forward but Winter stopped him.
"Don't." He said and sent a look towards him.
My former partner slowly loosened his grip on his weapon, knowing it was unwise to put it down.
"Hey дочь, remember me?" He asked me softly. "I know you're in there."
I faltered. This man, he was important to me. I shook my head in frustration at my sudden headache.
"You're a traitor! You don't know me." I screamed at him.
"No, I do. I'm the only one who knows you дочь." He said and stepped closer to me once again.
An image flashed in my head and I closed my eyes.
It was me and him. He was hugging me after my first kill mission.
"папа?" I asked with tears in my eyes.
"Yes дочь. Its me. I'm here. I'm sorry I wasn't earlier, but I'm here."
"You left. They said you left and forgot about me." I said and backed up again.
"I did. And I'm sorry. But I needed to be free, and now you can as well."
"Um, sorry to break up whatever's happening here, but there's German special forces approaching." The captain broke in.
I sent a death glare towards him and sent Winter a look. Wondering if we were still trying to kill him.
He shook his head at me and replied to Captain America.
"I wasn't in Vienna, I don't do that anymore." Winter told him. I wondered what happened.
"I know. But the people who think you did are coming here right now."
"This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck."
"It always ends in a fight." He said and grabbed the gun from the holster on his waist. I did the same and got ready for the fight ahead of us.
"Breach! Breach!" The voice from earlier said.
A grenade was thrown in through the window, I ran behind Winter and he kicked it towards the Captain.
Winter lifted the mattress to cover both of us from the gun shots that were coming in through the window.
I threw a table over to stop the door from being opened.
Men started to come in through the window so I fired my gun at them. I hit one, but I didn't have enough time to tell whether or not it was fatal.
Winter punched the floorboards my the captains face and brought out his bag as I was defending them.
Bucky stood up and threw his bag over to the roof of the other building next to this one.
He looked at me seriously. "Go!" He yelled and I jumped after his backpack.
I ran away and eventually started to run off.
(15 minutes later)
We were cornered. There was a big machine pointing big guns at us, Winter finally stood down and gave me a look to stand down as well.
"Congrats Cap, you're officially a criminal." A machine like voice said.
The machine's helmet came down and I could finally see his face.
Rhodey
I looked towards the girl that was standing gaurded. My face paled as I recognized her.
I took out my phone as Barnes and the girl were being led into two very high security plastic containers.
I went to Tony's messages and started to text him.
Tony, you might want to hear who I just found.
Who?
Tony, it's Nadia. It's your sister.

No Time To Die (FitzSimmons AU)
Overview: Fitz goes looking for Simmons, but does she really want to be found?
Fitz hadn’t seen Jemma in months, everyone around him telling him that she was ‘okay’ and that he didn’t have to worry about her. But nobody would tell him where she was, no matter how much he asked. And the worst part, he knew it was because something was wrong. They wouldn’t hide it from him if it wasn’t. It also didn’t help that his mind has been very jumbled lately… ever since Ward trapped them in the bottom of the ocean. He was about ready to steal the quinjet and find her himself, with help from Daisy of course. He couldn’t deny that she was going to be the best at finding her. So, with that, he put his plan into action.
He started to walk out of his ‘lab’, which had moved. A lot. And made his way toward where he thought that Daisy would be. But, before he could get there, Mack stopped him. Him and Mack had gotten pretty close over the last few weeks, and he didn’t treat him like he was so irreparably damaged.
Mack smiles when he sees him. “Hey Turbo, any new ideas lately?
Fitz keeps walking but tries his best to answer the question. “Uh- yes. Its-its a- what's the word… bio... biological DNA sensor, I think.” He replies, and he thinks Mack nods before he walks off, but he was already back to finding Daisy, no longer focused on Mack.
He walks into her room without knocking, this was urgent. And there she was, sitting on her bed, reading a book. But she looks up when she hears him come in. She smiles and closes the book. “Hey Fitz, what’s going on?” She asked, noticing the look on his face.
“I’m going to find Simmons.”
Daisy’s face instantly drops. “I-I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Great, she knew the thing that they were all keeping from him, too. What was it? What was so bad that they would keep it from her best friend? Actually, he didn’t want anyone to answer that.
“But why? You guys won’t tell me anything, so I’m going to find out for myself.”
“There’s a reason you don’t know. I'm sorry Fitz, but I can’t help you. I really want to…”
“Fine. I’ll do it myself. If Coulson asks where I am, tell him I’m taking a break.” He says before walking out, he can hear Daisy call something after him, but he didn’t hear, nor did he care.
He practically runs toward the Quinjet. There’s only one problem though… he needs a pilot. Why didn’t he think of this before? Now he has to find one, and there's not a lot of time, considering Daisy will probably tell May or somebody. He has to hurry…
He quickly changes course towards the newbie training room, where there should be at least one pilot. He rushes into the room and everybody looks at him. “Do-Do any of you know how to- um…” He snaps his fingers, trying to find the word. “Pilot. That’s what it is.”
One of the people in the room hesitantly raised her hand. It was a girl, about 4 years younger than him, with long brown hair. “Uh, I can?”
Fitz walked over to her. “Great. You’re coming with me. I need a pilot.”
“Um, I'm not cleared for field work-” The agent was cut off as Fitz dragged her away and back towards the quinjet. As soon as they got out of the room, she pushed Fitz away. “I can walk by myself.”
“Sorry.” He simply said, still running towards where the quinjet was parked. “We’re kind of in a hurry-” He was cut off by the doors in front of them leading to the room where the Quinjet was closing. He started running even faster, the agent on his heels. They just barely make it in before they close.
The Agent was breathing heavily. “What the heck! What's all this about, anyway?”
“We’re finding somebody. Now get to the pilot’s seat, we need to get out of here.” He replies, going to sit in the co-pilot seat.
The agent, without another thought, moved to sit next to him, looking around for a second, surveying the controls around her. She flips a few switches, and pulls a few things, and they’re in the air. The doors above them are still closed, though. So Fitz aims the guns and starts to shoot at it, and after a few seconds, there’s a hole big enough for the quinjet to fit through. The agent next to him maneuvers the quinjet, careful not to hit anything. When they’re in the open sky, they both let out a relieved sigh.
“What’s your name again? I don’t think I asked.” Fitz asked.
“Delilah. Delilah Verticu, or just Agent Verticu. Whatever one you want. And who are you? Because I’m pretty sure this counts as a kidnapping-”
“I’m Fitz. I needed a pilot. I need to find my friend, but I have no idea where she is and they won’t tell me anything. So that’s why you’re here. Don’t worry, you’re just the pilot. Hopefully I won’t have to fight…” He explains.
Delilah was still digesting all the information, he could see it on her face. “So… where do we go first?” She asks.
“That's-That's a great question. One that I’ll try to find the answer to.” He stands up and moves to the back, where a computer was.
He started to run facial recognition for Simmons, which was kind of hard to do with only one good hand, but he managed.
Hopefully it wouldn't take very long to find where she last was. He was worried, over the last few days, his mind has imagined the worst, she could be dead…. Anything was better than that.
Then, the facial recognition had found her already. Weird, Jemma knew when there was a camera, she might not be a field agent, but she knows when somebody’s watching her. So that means she wants to be found.
“What is it?”
“A location. California.” He goes to sit next to Delilah again as she changes course
There’s at least 5 hours until they get there, so sleeping probably wasn’t the worst idea. He grabbed a brochure from behind him and put it over his eyes. “Wake me up when we’re there.”
Within 40 minutes, he’s sound asleep. Before he had gone to sleep, he’d given Delilah a specific location, so that was not a problem.
“Fitz! We’re here.” Delilah said, gently nudging him. He must have been asleep for at least 4 hours. He sat up, still a little groggy.
“Right, give me just a second.” Fitz rubs his eyes, trying to wake up. After he’d collected himself, he got all geared up, ICER’s strapped to his belt. He looks over to Delilah as the hangar doors open.
“Stay here, no matter what. If I don’t come back in 7 hours, go back to the base and tell Coulson.” Fitz tells her.
She nods. “Right, and what are the chances of that happening exactly?”
“Low.” He says before walking off, when he was a few meters away, Delilah closed the doors. This is it. No turning back now.
He walks towards where he can see the city in the distance. Thinking about it now, he should have taken a motorcycle or something…
After a lot of walking, he finally made it. He sat down at a table at a restaurant, one of the ones that was half-way outside and waited. He definitely should have thought ahead more…
This was very poorly planned. How was he supposed to find Jemma in a city that has hundreds of people? He had no idea what he was doing, all he knew is that he had to find out where she was. He had to find her. And so, he stood up and went into a coffee shop, knowing it was Jemma’s favorite place. He froze in the doorway as he spotted her. The odds of it were… extremely low. But there she was. He would recognize her anywhere.
He speed-walked over to her and sat down across from her. She looked up from her book, completely and utterly shocked that he was there. She looks around, and calms down. That was weird… she should’ve been way more excited… but Fitz brushed it off.
“Where-Where were you?” Fitz asked. “I kept asking everyone, but they wouldn’t tell me anything. All they would say is you were okay and give me a sad look. What’s going on?”
Simmons looked at him, a look that Fitz had never seen before in her eyes, but it quickly disappears as soon as she notices that he noticed. “Well, I’ve been on a mission, so that’s probably why they didn’t tell you, because this would have happened.”
“I missed you…”
“Oh Fitz…” She says. “How about I show you what I’ve been doing?”
He looks up from his hands that had been shaking. They did that a lot lately, he hated it. His hands were supposed to be steady, so he could actually build things. But now… he can’t. “Yeah. Let’s do it.”
Jemma nods and stands up, having already paid for her coffee. Fitz stands up too and follows Jemma out. After a few minutes of walking, they reach a building, like a skyscraper. It was pretty impressive.
“This is where you’re undercover at?” Fitz asks, slightly shocked.
“Yeah.”
They walked in, the place was strangely empty, only a few security guards, it was eerie and he instantly got a bad feeling. This wasn’t going to end well. But he brushed it off, he was with Jemma, they could face it together, just like they always did. They walk towards an elevator and Jemma punches a floor number in. She then goes on her phone and types something, but Fitz couldn’t see what.
After a minute, the elevator doors slid open, but what was there surprised Fitz. 3 armed guards were waiting, he grabbed an ICER from his belt and shot it at one of them, but missed. He handed one to Simmons, who was strangely calm during all of this. By this time, the guards had rushed forwards and were attacking him, he managed to shoot one of them with an ICER, shove one into a wall, and dislocate a knee. But Simmons still wasn’t doing anything.
When all the guards were laying on the floor, he turned back to Simmons. But a surprising sight awaited him. Simmons was okay, but she was now pointing the ICER at his head.
“You should have listened to Daisy, Leopold.” She said before shooting him, knocking him out cold.
A few hours later, he woke up in a cell, two guards outside of it. How could Jemma do this… they were supposed to be inseparable. But she betrayed him, she betrayed everyone. Just like Ward… how could she do this to him? And right after he risked his life for her to live.
He had almost drowned so that she could live, and now look at him. Trapped in a cell after she betrayed him. Just like Ward… The resemblance was uncanny.
At that moment, Simmons walked into the room and the guards bowed their heads in respect. He could tell she was a lot more confident now. But not in a good way.
“You. How could you?! I risked my life for you, and you turned me in, to HYDRA of all people. Don’t you remember Ward? Don’t you remember what he did to us?”
There was a cold look in her eyes. One that he had never seen before. This was a different Simmons than he knew. She was a whole new, horrible person. “Of course I remember. That’s why I’m here. I realized that I was done letting people hurt me. And the only way to have that happen, is to hurt them first.”
“That’s a horrible way to live.”
“A pretty good way not to die, though. I am sorry, Fitz. S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to warn you, you should have listened.” She said, her British accent shining through.
“I can’t believe you. You would join the organization we swore to stop? I-”
“You’re the one who needs to wake up and smell the smoke. The world is ending, we are being thrown into another war. And I'm not going to be on the losing side. You should consider it too, then we can be together again.”
Fitz had to admit, the offer was tempting. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t considering. But he was part of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he couldn't do that to Daisy. She’s lost too much already, with Ward and all. “No, never. I’m not like you. I would never betray my friends for glory.”
His only hope was that Delilah would go back and tell Coulson, and they could get him out of there. Because if it came down to it, he knew he couldn’t pull the trigger on her. She still meant too much to him.
This has happened too many times… a friend betraying him. First it was Jules, then Ward, and now Simmons, the one person he thought he could count on. Heck, she threw herself off a plane so that he wouldn’t get her “sickness”. But then she threw it all away, for HYDRA of all people.
“I told you, Fitz. I want to be with you, join me. And we can live forever. In peace, unlike how S.H.I.E.L.D. is, we’d no longer have to constantly fight people. We were children when we first joined, we still are. Please, Fitz. Listen to me. Or else I won’t be able to stop them.”
“From doing what? It’s just a tad bit hard to believe you after you betrayed me and my trust for HYDRA.”
“They want information. On S.H.I.E.L.D. And I won’t be able to stop them from getting that information unless you join me. Or else they will hurt you. I promise you that. This could go either way.”
Fitz hesitated for a moment, but he knew he couldn’t betray his friends back at the base. Especially Mack and Daisy. “No. They’re going to have to get it out of me. I will never be like you. And I can’t understand why you would want to be like this.”
Simmons sighed. “I gave you a chance. Why must you always be so stubborn,Fitz?” She turns to the guards outside who’d been waiting for her to give them a sign. “Take him.”
“No, no, no, no.” The guards grab his arms and he desperately tries to plead with Jemma. “Please Jemma, think about what you’re doing. We’re friends. Did that mean nothing to you!? Nothing at all!? JEMMA, PLEASE!” He yells desperately as the guards drag him away until Jemma is out of sight. He’s still fighting, though. He won’t go down without a fight. He won’t break his promise. Ever.
Whilst fighting, he was mentally mapping out the route they were taking- in case S.H.I.E.L.D. didn’t actually come to his rescue. Hopefully that wasn’t the case, though. Or else he was screwed. Why didn’t he just listen to Daisy…?
If he had, none of this would have happened. Oh god, Delilah. She was waiting for him. What if they found her? What then? Hopefully she was okay. She was just a kid. Like he was when he joined S.H.I.E.L.D. as an engineer and met Simmons. That seemed like a lifetime ago, when in reality, it had only been a few years. Time flies when you’re about to die.
But he hadn’t yet. That had to count for something. Although, he didn’t know how long that would last. He was trapped in a dungeon, by HYDRA, and had no way of getting out, at least for a few more hours. He had to stall until Coulson and the others arrived. However long that was.
How much time had passed since he had been thrown in here? He had lost track a while ago, at least, that’s what he thought. If only there was some way that he could communicate with Delilah to tell her that he was caught. That's when he remembered… Before he had left the plane he grabbed an emergency button. His invention, of course. It was able to let the person in the quinjet know that he was in trouble. Thank god for his wonderful mind, however messed up it might be right now.
He pressed it, hopefully Delilah will understand what it means and fly back to the base to tell Coulson. And hopefully it was soon.
He didn’t know how long he had before somebody came in and tried to get information out of him. Preferably a long time. However, his hopes were crushed.
Of course, he jinxed it. A girl with long, brown hair walked in. She had this… confidence to her. He could tell that she was one of the most powerful people here, hopefully that didn’t mean what he thought it meant for him.
But, something was there that was different to all the other HYDRA agents, but Fitz couldn’t tell what it was. It bothered him. A lot.
He had to admit, this girl scared him. He could tell that she was a no-nonsense type of person. Those seemed pretty plentiful around here. But, back to what happened. When she walked in, his stomach dropped. Oh gosh, this was going to be painful.
She walked over to a table by the side. “So, Leopold Fitz. You’re an Agent of SHIELD, correct?”
He nods, his throat dry. Come on, Fitz. You’ve gone through worse. Just stall for as much time as you can. That’s all you have to do.
She looks over at him, seeing him nod. “Right. And what are SHIELD’s plans in the future?”
“Can you be more specific?” Fitz was second-guessing his choice to stall for time. This woman scared him.
She stares at him, trying to decide whether he’s serious or not. “SHIELD has been infiltrating our operations. We want to know why.”
“Really? Of course we are. If I remember correctly, you guys did the same thing not even a year ago.”
“Answer the question, Leopold.”
“Fine.” He had to think of something quickly. Then, he had an idea. “We… are in the process of making a giant weapon, one that can instantly be able to tell who's HYDRA. So you won’t be able to infiltrate us again. Happy?”
Obviously this wasn’t the truth, but hopefully, he had lied well enough so that the lady wouldn’t find it too suspicious.
She looked at him for about half of the minute, studying all of his micro-expressions intently. She would be hard to fool.
But, she surprised him and nodded. “Great. Thank you for your cooperation.”
He couldn’t believe that worked. He was a horrible liar, but somehow she believed him. Or maybe it was a trick. Either way, he made it past. And he wasn’t dead yet. So that was good. The lady apparently got all the information he wanted, considering she left right after.
He decided he might as well take a nap. He had a feeling it was going to be a long few hour So, he laid down on the dirty floor, head on his arm and tried to sleep. Eventually, he was able to, but only after at least an hour.
He had to hold out hope that Coulson and the team would come for him.
After about 3 hours, he woke up. There was rattling coming from outside the cell door. Maybe it was Daisy or May unlocking the door, or picking the lock.
But his hopes were soon diminished as Simmons walked in. As soon as he saw her, he looked away. He couldn’t look in her eyes, not after everything she’d done.
“What? Come to gloat?” He asked bitterly.
“No, not at all. The agent that was formerly sent in here thought that you were lying. It’s my job to figure out whether or not she was right.” She looks at the gun in her hand, which was anything but an ICER. “No matter what.”
“You really think you can shoot me? After everything we went through together?” Part of him wanted to believe that she wouldn’t, but the other half knows better. He was done trusting people blindly.
“I can. And I will. As soon as you say something that I don’t believe. You forget, I know you better than anyone. I know when you’re lying.”
“Then you should also know that I don’t betray my friends.” (If I had a nickel for every time one of my best friends betrayed me for an enemy organization, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.)
“I didn’t betray you, I was true to myself. Sometimes, that's what you have to do.”
“Not if that includes becoming a terrorist. You need to work on your moral code a bit.”
“I’m not a terrorist, Fitz.”
“Sure sounds like you are.”
“Enough small talk, What are you really planning?”
Just then, Simmons' radio in her other hand went off. She put it up to her mouth. “What’s going on?”
“The base has been infiltrated by a small SHIELD team.” Came the staticky response.
She turned towards him so rapidly he was convinced she would get whiplash. “What did you do?”
“I did what I had to. You forget that I’m one of SHIELD’s best engineers.”
She sighs. “I didn’t want to do this, but you’ve left me no choice.” She raises the gun, pointing directly at his chest.
He couldn’t believe this was happening. The SHIELD team was here. Delilah made it back. But now… Simmons was about to shoot him.
“Jemma… I’m your friend.”
“Not anymore.”
The next few seconds seemed to happen in slow motion.
…
He could see her pull the trigger, but didn’t feel the pain of the bullet until a few seconds later. After Simmons confirmed it hit him, she rushed out.
He dropped to his knees, blood spilling from his stomach. He had to hold on… for Daisy. He moved his hand towards the wound to put some pressure on it, trying to slow the bleeding. His thoughts were fuzzy, all he could think of was the pain. His vision blurs. This couldn’t be how he died. He couldn’t die. Not yet.
He had to wait. They’d find him. They had to.
It felt like forever, but then, somebody kicked down the door. He could barely see someone rush towards him. They whispered something to him, but it was unintelligible. The person picked him up, bridal style and carried him out. He couldn't focus. He could hear alarms going off in the distance, guns firing, people fighting, but he barely registered any of it. He was trying to stay awake, he really was. But it was so hard… he just wanted to close his eyes, to finally rest.
But he knew he couldn’t. He had to stay awake. For Daisy. For Coulson. For Mack. For May. For Delilah.
But every second he felt more faint. He could tell that they made it back to the plane, seeing the black interior. He could feel himself being placed on a medical bed, and yelling. Bright lights shone on him, making it impossible for him to tell what was happening. He could feel himself lose consciousness.
Daisy couldn’t believe it. Fitz was shot. Because of her. It was her fault. If she had just made sure that he never went to find Simmons, none of this would have happened.
As she looks at him through the clear glass wall, she feels a hand on her shoulder. It was Coulson. The closest thing she had to a father.
“He’s going to be okay, Sky-I mean Daisy. Sorry, still getting used to it.” He smiles, even though it was strained. He was obviously just as worried as she was.
“He doesn’t deserve this… He’s lost too much.” She protested, she could feel her eyes start to fill with tears. Oh god… this was horrible.
She knew how it felt to be shot, and it doesn’t feel very good. At all. And let alone by someone you trusted…
A part of her was glad he was unconscious, she didn’t think she could bear to see him heartbroken. He was like a brother to her. Everyone at SHIELD felt like family to her. She didn’t know how else to explain it. They had given her a home, a reason to be a better person.
And the recruit, Delilah, was still pretty shaken up. What was Fitz thinking? Taking a trainee with barely enough training into a trap. Of course, Fitz didn’t really know that it was a trap then because she didn’t tell him that Simmons was HYDRA…
It all barely makes any sense. But when does something ever make sense? For example, she might be an alien and her parents were apparently monsters that killed a lot of people. Some stuff just doesn’t make sense.
This just proved even more that Fitz and her were a lot alike. They both don’t really like where they came from (AKA their parents) and both of their crushes turned out to work for an enemy terrorist organization. The parallels were insane.
“Come on Fitz…” She whispered. “Now’s no time to die.”

A good thing about publishing your fic on Wattpad is that you can see what reading list people put your fic on. It’s actually pretty funny.
For my Marvel OC fic some people added it to: Sirius black daughter, umbrella academy, crossover (it’s not a crossover at all)
For my PJO fic some people added it to: Harry Potter,

So… funny story
In chapter 1 of ISINAM Nadia is supposed to kill Clint’s wife and kids. That was the original idea. But then I got to the part of where Clint meets Nadia, and by then I had forgotten. I was originally going to have him recognize her, but I didn’t want to delete half of the chapter so I just scrapped the idea altogether and had it be some random agents family.

Chapter 4
Tony stood to pour Natasha and Steve a glass of water. (They wouldn't take any wine.) "So, where have you two been the last four years?" He said, pointing to them.
"Well, Stark, unlike you, we were being helpful. The Winter Soldier and his partner the Silent Assassin and HYDRA had some business to take care of with us." Natasha shoots back.
At this, Tony's face visibly paled. Natasha squinted her eyes.
"What's wrong, Stark? Why so pale?" She asked.
"Uh, oh, nothing." He stuttered. Natasha didn't buy it but let the topic go.
Steve had started to look around Tony's new place and found a picture of young Tony and another, younger girl.
"What's this?" Steve asked Tony.
Tony grabs the photo out of Steve's hands. "None of your business Capsicle."
Both Natasha and Steve looked confused at Starks sudden avoidance of a topic.
Just then, JARVIS broke the silence. "Sir, your project is ready."
Tony sighs and stands up and walks towards his lab, going to create the machine that would save all mankind.
Ultron.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Asset was being dragged through the corridors of another HYDRA facility. She had given up, wait no, that wasn't right. IT had given up, it wasn't capable of human emotions, which therefore meant it wouldn't be treated like one.
It felt abandoned, everybody had left her, even her papa.
She knew HYDRA would most likely use that against her, so she steeled her nerves and acted as though nothing had happened.
But it had. It really had, and it hurt her, that her papa would just leave her to be found by the people who caused them so much pain instead of taking her with him.
They put her into the Chair.
"Good morning, Asset."
Chapter 3
Everything was going as planned.
I was stationed with Pierce with other agents. He had just been revealed to everyone as the leader of HYDRA and I stood bodyguard out of sight from the others. Captain America had come over the loudspeaker and was trying to convince people to rebel against Director Pierce.
"The price of freedom is high, it has always been. But it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not." The captains voice said.
"You smug son of a b*tch." Said one of the people who was to be watched.
This was my cue to step forward and stand protectively by Pierce’s side.
"Let me ask you a question. What if Pakistan marched into Mumbai tomorrow? And you knew they were going to drag your daughters into a soccer stadium for execution. And you could just stop it, with a flick of the switch, would you?" Pierce asked a man similar to the other. "Would you all?"
"Not if it's your switch." The man said and threw his glass away so that it shattered on the floor.
That was a mistake.
Suddenly, just as Pierce was about to shoot the man, the woman jumped up and started to fight him. I joined in their fight and flipped her onto the ground, looking at my handler for directions.
"Let her go, Asset." Pierce commanded.
I slowly got off but stayed in my protective stance.
The woman reached for her head and my hand went to my belt which is where I keep my gun. Instead, she pushes some sort of button and takes off a mask.
"I'm sorry. Did I step on your moment?" It was the redhead from the highway.
"Asset, help out your partner on the Helicarriers. I will be fine here. That's an order." My handler directed. Not taking his eyes off the redhead.
I nodded and started to walk off to find a way up to the Helicarriers. The bird man! If the redhead and captain were here, the bird must be too!
Just as the bird man was about to fly under me, I jumped on his back and held on for dear life.
"What the!! Ah sh*t!" The bird yelled, trying to shake me off his back.
"Sam! What's happening? Are you okay?" A noise from his coms sounded.
"It's the kid! She jumped on my back and isn't getting off!" Sam yelled back, clearly panicking. Not wanting to hurt her but also trying to get her off.
Down below us I could see explosions and I tiny hint of shiny silver, meaning it was my partners doing.
"Sam, I'm gonna need a ride!" A voice yelled through his coms.
"I already have someone on me but I'll try. Roger that."
The Captain fell and the Bird just barely caught him. He dropped off the Captain on the Helicarrier and touched down as well. I finally let go of his back and charged at them, buying time for my partner to arrive.
He suddenly came charging out as well and knocked the Captain off the Helicarrier.
"Steve!" The bird yelled and tried to fly after him but the Soldier caught him by his wing and yanked him back.
The bird started to fire his guns at us and the Soldier did a backflip while I rolled out of the way. I nodded at my partner in acknowledgment, he doesn't nod back, which I expected.
The bird flies away before my partner shoots a grappling hook at him and pulls him back down. I jump on top of him and start to punch his face over and over.
The Soldier ripped one of his wings off and then grabbed me before he kicked the bird man off the Helicarrier.
As Sam was falling he decided to warn Steve about the supposed protectiveness the Winter Soldier had over the kid.
"Steve! The Winter Soldier has the kid with him! He seems to be protective over her so don't hurt her too bad. She's young, Steve."
"Copy that Sam!" The captain replied back.
Me and the Soldier had both looked over the side to see Captain America still on the Helicarrier.
"Sh*t!" I cursed. (Just pretend that was in Russian)
Captain America had gotten to the walkway that leads to the chips. It was our job to prevent him from making it there. We stood in front of the case, staring at each other.
"People are gonna die, Buck. I can't let that happen." He said, seeming like he wanted us to go against our orders and give up.
"Please don't make me do this." He pleaded with my partner. His eyes seemed to harden as he realized we weren't going to stand down.
He threw his shield at us and Winter deflected it with his metal arm. We were both shooting at him and I somehow made it behind him.
I scored a shot on his side. He barely seemed to notice and kept on fighting, he had pushed my partner back with his shield.
I realized this was probably a good time to make my presence known again.
I drew my knife and stalked towards him.
"Look, kid, I don't want to hurt you. But I will if I need to." The captain tries to reason with me. I just growl and swipe at him with my knife, making a slash where blood was starting to dribble out of.
By this time, Winter was up as well so Captain America was fighting off two super soldier hydra assassins at the same time.
Just as the. Captain was about to place in the chip, I tackled him to the ground and was in the process of choking him when he kicked me off and started to breathe heavily, trying to catch his breath.
He had pushed my partner back with his shield when I came up and started to fight hand to hand, trying to distract him from his mission.
The Soldier had just punched the Captains shield when they also started to fight hand to hand.
My partner ran up and tackled him over the railing of the walkway and they fell on a metal platform of some kind.
I stayed on the walkway defending the chips as the two down below started to punch each other.
The chip fell and the Captain jumped down to get it, but not before kicking my partner off.
The Captain raced for the chip but his shield was thrown at him by the Winter Soldier. Oh how the turns have tabled.
He started to shoot at the Captain as I did as well. Winter plunged his knife into the Captains shoulder painfully but the Captain just head butted him.
He got Winter unconscious and all i really wanted to do was go down there and see if he was alright, but I had a mission.
Captain America once again started his journey to the chips.
Winter had gotten another shot at the Captain and I was now shooting at him too. He was getting too close to the chips for my liking. This time, I scored the shot, but now, the captain was on the platform I was on.
He rolled up and I shot at him again, he was slowly starting to slow down meaning his adrenaline was wearing off. He took out the chip and was just about to put it in when I found I couldn't move.
This wasn't right. I had to complete my mission or else Pierce would be angry with us. He would put us in the Chair.
But still, I found I couldn't move a muscle, I was frozen in place as the Captain finally fell down, with several bullet wounds.
"Asset!! What are you doing! Move!" Winter shouted at me.
"I can't move, Soldier!" I screamed back, panicking.
He then turns to the Captain with a growl. "What did you do to her!"
Just as the Helicarriers were about to fire, Captain America slid the last chip into place. The Helicarriers started to fire at each other.
The platform I was standing on started to shake. I still couldn't move.
Winter! Help me! I shouted into his mind.
He started to run towards me but got trapped under a piece of railing. The Captain had lifted up the railing that was holding down Winter and he crawled out from underneath.
"You know me." The Captain said. That was a mistake.
"No I don't!" Winter yelled back and punched him in the face.
They were both breathing heavily. "Bucky, you've known me your whole life." Steve says and Winter punches him again.
By this time I was screaming for help, still being trapped under some sort of spell or something.
"Your name is James Buchanan Barnes."
"SHUT UP!!!" Winter punched the Captain again and this time he fell.
They got back up slowly and I found I could finally move again.
"I'm not gonna fight you, Buck. You're my friend." Captain America said to my papa.
Winter ran and tackled him and I moved forward to help but he ordered me to stay back.
"You're my mission." Winter started to punch the captain's face repeatedly.
"Then finish it. Cause-cause I'm with you till the end of the line." Captain Roger's said, making Winter hesitate in his next punch.
Just then, the glass underneath them broke and Captain America fell.
"Winter!!!" I yelled, scared that he had fallen as well.
"It's okay, doll. I'm fine!" He yelled back. He was hanging on to a piece of railing.
He then let go and I jumped after him, which ended up being a bad idea. When I hit the water below it felt like something just hit me at 250 miles per hour. As soon as I hit the water, I fell unconscious.
Subconsciously, I felt a cold metal hand drag me out of the water. I was laid down in leaves and some roots, presumably in the woods somewhere.
Then, by the time I woke up, my papa was nowhere in sight. Instead of my father, there were a bunch of HYDRA agents surrounding me. Sh*t! Of course I had to go back. They wouldn't let me be free, how could I have been so dumb to trust Winter, when, in the end, he left me to return to them.
I don't know what I expected. After all,
There is no escape.
Chapter 2
I swear I’m not a monster
Steve shoved Natasha against the wall for a second time when Natasha decided she had had enough.
"I know who killed Fury." Steve stepped back so Natasha could finish.
"Most of the intelligence committee doesn't believe he exists and the ones that do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over 2 dozen assassinations in the past 50 years. His partner, the Silent Assasin has 2 dozen assassinations in the last ten years."
"So they're a ghost story?" Steve asked.
"Five years ago I was escorting a nuclear engineer out of Aron. Someone shot out my tires near Odesa, we lost control, went straight over a cliff, I pulled us out. But the Winter Soldier and his partner were there. I was covering my engineer so he shot him, straight through me." Natasha lifts up her shirt a little to show a gunshot scar.
"Soviet slug, no rifling. Bye, bye bikinis." Natasha finished.
"Yeah I bet you look terrible in them now." Steve said sarcastically.
Natasha paused for a moment before speaking again. "Going after them is a dead end, I know, I tried." There was another pause and Natasha holds up the drive. "Like you said, they're a ghost story."
Steve looked at Natasha.
"Then let's find out what the ghost wants."
_____________Line break____________
(Back with The Silent Assassin.)
Director Peirce comes into the kitchen and opens up the refrigerator. He turns around and sees me and my partner sitting on chairs at the table in the corner.
"I'm going to go Mr. Peirce. Do you need anything before I leave?" A voice asked. My hand instinctively reached for my gun but our handler shook his head.
"No. Uh it's fine Renata. You can go home." Peirce answered, not taking his eyes off of us.
"Okay night, night."
"Goodnight." There's a sound of a door closing and then there's silence until Peirce breaks it.
"Want some milk." Peirce asked, even though we knew it was a rhetorical question. If we answered it would mean that we had opinions on our own and they would need to wipe us.
Mr. Peirce poured himself a glass of the milk and then spoke directly to us.
"The timetable has moved. Our window is limited." He takes a drink and then walks over to our table. "Two targets, level six. They already cost me Zola. I want confirmed death in ten hours."
"Sorry Mr. Peirce I- I forgot my... phone." The voice from earlier suddenly came into view.
I instinctively reached for my gun in my holster but our handler shook his head.
"Oh Renata. I wish you would have knocked." Mr. Peirce picked up the gun that was on the table and shot the girl until she fell.
"Find them. And don't come back until they're dead."
Time Skip - 2 hours
We were currently in a car chasing our targets. They had gotten to Agent Sitwell and he was in the back right seat. The Winter Soldier was on top of the car and ready to jump on top of the other one and rip the Agent out. Before he jumped I mind messaged him.
Are you sure about this papa?
Yes doll. We will be okay.
How are you so sure?
Because I know that you are the strongest person I know, and we've made it this far. Just be careful out there doll.
I will papa.
Then he jumped on the roof of the other car and ripped Sitwell out.
He shot a few times through the roof and then the car abruptly stopped and Winter flew forward off the car. He slowly gets up while the car I'm on crashes into our targets car. We push the car forward and the Winter Soldier hops back onto the roof of the car.
He rips out the steering wheel and jumps onto the car I'm on and the targets car skids away.
We slam into them again and they hit against the side of the highway. The car flips over and the car door falls off with three people on it.
The door skids across the road and one of the three people rolled off.
Our car came to a stop and I got out just as my Partner was handed a grenade launcher. (?) He shot towards our two targets and it hit the first one's shield and sent him flying back into a bus.
The girl ran away as I started shooting. The dark-skinned man from before had reappeared and was hiding behind a car by the girl.
Winter shot a grenade at the girl with fiery red hair but she jumped over the highway railing to avoid it.
Why couldn't they just stay still!
The girl vanishes after falling below the bridge onto the lower road.
Winter falls back, his goggles being hit with a bullet from the redhead who had reappeared again and was shooting at my partner. I walked over to the railing and started to fire at her.
Winter ripped off his goggles and looked really annoyed.
Oh they're screwed now.
He jumps up and starts firing a machine gun at the redhead.
He jumps down.
Winter! What should I do!?
Find the man!
The agents started to rapid fire on the bus I knew the man was in. He jumped out and grabbed his shield and used it to protect himself against our bullets. He starts to tilt the shield so the bullets would hit the agents.
As blonde man started to run away I decided I should probably chase him. He was sprinting towards Winter and I couldn't keep up, I needed to warn Winter.
Winter! The blonde man is running at you!
He looks at the man in red white and blue just in time to block his attack. Winter kicks the man off the car he was standing on and they start to fight. I look around and try to find the redhead from earlier.
I look back over at them just as Winter's mask falls off.
The man stops and stares at my partner.
"Bucky?"
"Who the hell is Bucky?"
As the dark skinned man from earlier who now had wings came back I ran at the blonde and tackled him to the ground. He looked at me in surprise and tried to get me off, but I stayed on and kept trying to stab him with my dagger.
In the distance I could hear sirens comping closer but I kept the blonde pinned to the ground while glaring daggers in him.
He looked at me closer and he stopped struggling just a bit.
His eyes widened at me before he spoke.
"How are you so young!?"
I didn't answer.
Soon enough the SHIELD cars got here. Though now they were more like HYDRA. One of the Agents pulled me off of my target and shoved me in the back of one of the cars.
Bucky was in there too, and I came to a terrifying realization. We had failed the mission. We had failed Director Pierce's orders.
And we both knew what that meant.
We deserved it. We should have completed the mission.
Papa?
Yes doll?
I don't want to go back there. We failed. Mr. Pierce is going to be mad.
I don't either child. But it is our home doll. Mr. Pierce has done this before hasn't he?
Yes?
And we survived through it. If we did it then, we can do it now.
I sighed and leaned my head back, forcing my eyes to stay open. A few hours later we reached our destination and were led out by guard's. We went straight to the tech room. Winter sat down in a chair and was having his arm fixed up. He tensed for only a milisecond but I still caught it and sent him a questioning look. He sprung up and his eyes looked more distant than they usually are.
He started to attack the doctors around us and I sprang up too. I knew the drill, this happened more than once, each time it was my job to either calm him down our pin him down. It was no secret that I was better than him. No secret at all.
The guard's around us pointed their guns at him and I was holding my knife to his throat so he couldn't kill anyone.
A few minutes later Pierce walked in and put his hands up for the guards to drop their guns.
"Stand down Silent Killer." Pierce ordered.
I pulled my knife away from his neck and stood protectively behind the Soldier.
"Mission report." He ordered his Soldier. Winter stayed silent. "Mission report now!"
Pierce slowly walked towards his asset and bent down so they were at eye level.
Pierce drew his hand back and backhanded the Winter Soldier in the face.
It took every ounce of strength I had not to lunge forward and attack Pierce for hitting my papa.
"The man on the bridge, who was he?" Winter asked.
"You met him earlier this week on another assignment." Pierce answered after a second.
"I knew him."
Oh no. This was not good.
Pierce sat down in a chair in front of us.
"Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century. And I need you to do it one more time. Society is at a tipping point between order and chaos. Tomorrow we're going to give it a push. But, if you don't do your part, I can't do mine. And HYDRA cant give the world the freedom it deserves." I knew Pierce's speech all too well. I didn't like how this was going.
"But I knew him."
Before anyone could do anything else I lunged at Pierce and tried to cut him with my knife. The guards around us sprang into action and quickly hit me with there batons until I got off.
"Prep them." Pierce demanded as if his life wasn't just at stake.
"But sir, they've both been out of crypto for too long!" One of the doctors asked slightly worried.
"Then wipe them and start over."
They pushed me and him into the Chair. There was, of course, two of them.
My breathing started to speed up and I opened my mouth instinctively for them to put in a mouth guard.
The machine started to lower towards my head and my breathing spread up even more. I could feel hot tears streaming down my face as I begged to be let go. The machine clamped around my head and started the torture.
I screamed until my vocal cords were sore. And even then, I kept screaming. You would think you would get used to being electrocuted, but no. It has to hurt just as bad every time.
Mr. Pierce leaves with Agent Rumlow as our screams continue to echo through the walls.
After they said their words.
"Soldiers?"
"Ready to comply."
Chapter 1
I swear I’m not a monster
(A/N) I know that this is most likely horrible, but I swear it gets better.
HYDRA. It always has to be HYDRA. Fear. That's why. They use your own fear against you. They are a disease that you can't seem to get rid of. It's always them. In the shadows, lurking. Like a lioness.
That's where we come in.
Me and my partner. The silence before the storm. We were never seen, never heard. Only used. But it worked. HYDRA got what they wanted. Absolute control.
I don't really know my name, only very few small details about my past. Ones that HYDRA has repeatedly used against me. And that brings me to where I am now. I had regrettable failed my last mission, it involved a young child. I hesitated. The target got away. This was punishment.
Me and my partner were tasked with the job of killing an agents family. A HYDRA deserter. That's what happens when you retire. You die. There is no resting. You work for them, or you suffer.
My partner, the Winter Soldier, and I had just entered their house. It was in a small town, more witnesses that could see us. That couldn't happen. Our supervisor had made that very clear...
There was screams, so many screams, that were playing in her head, memories that she couldn't quite place. It didn't matter, though. They had a mission, one that needed to be completed.
Shots rang through the house, killing everyone caught in the crossfire. There was a lot of people. Must be having some sort of gathering.
There, lying on the floor, was a 7 year old girl. I couldn't hesitate. I raise my gun and shoot her. Straight through her head. Clean shot. Witness eliminated.
How many had gone like this? Too many. They were machines, killing for safety. Safety from their own minds. That's what Agents back at the base had said. Agents that had hurt her for fun. She was a punching bag, she couldn't fight against them. Or she would be worse off.
The next hour was a blur, the only thing on her mind was what they would do now. Their mission was completed. Would they put her back in the chair? Would they separate her and her partner again? She didn't know. She couldn't know.
The more she knew, the more danger she was in.
The one thing she did know, was that she'd be free soon. She had to.
Her brother would come for her. He'd save her. Eventually.
She just needed to be patient, to wait.
But... it was getting harder to believe that. She had been waiting for... a very long time.
Still no sight of him.
He'd still come. He was family. Family sticks together. Right?
She couldn't remember her family... Winter had told her stories about his, though. He had a sister. She liked his stories.
She must've zoned out, because before she knows it, they were back at the base. Guards appear, just like they always did, and guide us to separate cells. Far away. Pierce was going to send him to a different base for a mission. I was to stay here. Alone.
I was used to it, though. It had happened before. I think. My memory was foggy. It always was, though.
Now, she was training with Agent Rumlow, one of her superiors. He terrified her. All of them did. She wanted to prove herself, to make them proud. When she didn't... bad things would happen.
Like the chair. And her words. She hated her words. The words that made her do whatever they wanted. Winter tries to stop them sometimes, but it always ends with them being seperated.
They never seemed to be able to forget the other, however. They were connected. Like father and daughter. She had no idea how old she was, but she looked young. With long hair that was usually in a braid. Winter would do her hair when they were supposed to be sleeping. That was the only time they had to themselves.
She knew the calm wouldn't last long, and she was right. Because Pierce wanted her for a... special mission. One that was supposed to be quick and easy. But she highly doubted it.
The mission?
Going to work with the director, posing as his granddaughter. To prove he has family. And to make him seem even more humane. She knew better.
She knew it was useless to fight though, and went along with him. She knew the consequences if she drew unnecessary attention to them.
He had a world security council meeting today, and she would be attending.
They arrived at the SHIELD headquarters, which she had heard was called the Triskelion.
He opened the door for her and she got out. It was weird. She was used to him treating her like a rug on the floor. Something to step on to get more power. But she didn't say anything, of course.
During the meeting, there was an unexpected visitor. Nick Fury.
"Who's the girl?" Fury asks him.
"She's my granddaughter."
That was when Fury started to get a little suspicious. That wasn't on the files. But he didn't say anything.
She knew she had to play along and smiled at him, holding out her hand for a handshake after quickly making sure it was okay with her Supervisor. "Hello."
He shakes her hand and she steps back beside her 'grandfather'.
It didn't last forever, however. And soon enough, they had to go back to the hell she lived in. And the hell that Peirce controlled.
As soon as we got back, I got taken back to my cell and he was rushed back to his office, apparently for a urgent mission debriefing.
Then, for some reason, guards came up to my door to get me. Usually they let me have a few hours at least before sending me on another mission. Apparently not this time. I get up and follow them to Peirce's office. Something was wrong. But I didn't know what it was. I doubt they would tell me, anyways.
When I got inside, Peirce was sitting at his desk, hands folded against a file, a frown on his face.
I walk up and stand attentively as he starts talking.
"Your partner has failed his mission to kill Nicholas J. Fury. This is unacceptable, you know this."
I nod to show I'm still listening.
"This means we are sending you in with him. You are to make sure he doesn't fail again. You know what will happen if he does. You don't want that, do you?"
"No, sir."
He nods at the guards behind me, their signal to lead me to get ready for the mission. First, I had to get my weapons. A regular gun, a sniper and a few knives. I had to be prepared. Or else.
The guards knew not to leave my side, they had their orders, and I had mine. After I was done, they boarded a helicopter and flew me to our meeting spot with my partner.
We were to pick him up and then fly to New York, where we would find Nick Fury, and kill him. Once and for all.
A few hours later, we had completed half of our mission. I was sitting across from him. I let my mind wander slightly, back to the past, as far as I could remember.
The memory that decided to surface was HYDRA giving me my abilities. Telepathy. Useful in the life of a child assassin. Makes it so you don't have to talk to communicate. That day, she could never forget. They kept her conscious. That's what they did.
They make sure you suffer pain. Pain's how you learn.
But they also needed a way to control it, and that was the worst part of the process. A little chip in my head that let them control who I was able to communicate with. Most of the time, they would let me use it with Winter, but not at the moment.
Of course, I've tried. But it didn't work. It was all their plan. It was like HYDRA wanted them to fail. To have an excuse to put them through even more pain then they already did.
She was used to it though. The silence before a mission, when no one dared to talk. Her included.
We finally arrived, and set up at the edge of a tall building, looking at the apartment building in front of us. That was where Nick Fury apparently was. We waited a hour or two before we actually saw movement in the room we were looking for. It was a man, one that I didn't recognize. A witness.
He had to go. But apparently, my partner disagreed. "He's not our mission. Wait."
I huffed and sat back from my sniper, waiting for our target to appear. Eventually, he did. But not how we wanted.
She could tell he knew something was going to happen. He was showing the other man writing on his phone, an effective strategy for when you knew someone was listening.
That meant they didn't have a lot of time. They needed to hurry. And hurry she did.
She gave Winter another minute to shoot him before she took it upon herself to finish it.
Silenced shots and the sound of breaking glass echoed in the alley between them.
I get up, my partner does as well, a little frown on his face. I did what I had to do.
"I told you to wait." He said.
"That wasn't my mission." I said right back. I start to take care of my sniper, but it seemed like we were spotted by the blonde man from earlier. As soon as I see him, I drop the sniper over the edge and start to run, Winter right behind me.
I sprint as fast as I can, but for some reason, the man chasing us was able to keep up. This wasn't a normal man. She could tell.
"утка!" Winter yells. (Duck!)
I did as he said and ducked my head, still running as fast as I could go. Once I looked up I saw the thing that almost took my head off.
Flying back towards the man was a red white and blue shield with a silver star in the middle. As it was coming back, Winter swatted it out of the air so the man couldn't use it again. We had reached the end of the roof, we kept running until there was nothing to run on.
And then
We fell.
