Happy (belated) New Year everyone! I hope 2019 is treating everyone well so far! I've been messing with some new Arteza brush tip water color markers! I'm not super happy with how this came out, I'm too impatient to wait for the ink to dry and that led to the ink bleeding, and uhg. But hey, lessons were learned. :P All the same though, it was fun and it's still kinda cute. XD I went back with some other pens to clean it up, and I may eventually touch it up digitally. The brushes themselves are lovely. The tips are bristled and the ink is easily workable. I had problems with it feathering, although i think that may have more to do with me not being used to watercolors rarher than the pens themselves. I am however a little upset that one of my brown pens ran out of ink almost immeadiately. I've been getting a lot done, but neglecting my instagram! Oops! Just finished this peice a few days ago, it took me forever and I almost scrapped it part way through. I had an awesome night! First Jamie came over and we had some.craft time making horns, then Zola, Sophy, Will, Jamie, and I all went out to a metal show in Seattle. It wasn't really my scene, and my ears are still ringing, but it was fun! Afterward we went back to Zola's and I did some henna on Sophie's undercut, and Jamie held still for me long enough to bust this out. Did you guys know you can make mini jack-o-lanterns out of little orange peels? I wrote up a little 'how to', if anyone wants to make some. I did these at work, and now I have festive little desk decorations! Orange Peel Jack-o-Lanterns- How To: 1. Get a manderin, tangerine, cutie, or equivilant. You want to gently squeeze and pull at the skin so it comes loose from the orange segments inside without turning the fruit to mosh. 2. Use a small knife (xacto works well) and cut a circle around the stem spot. You want it to be decent sized, but make sure the sides are still tall enough to have room for a face. 3. Carefully peel off the circle you cut and set it aside. Save it, it'll be the top to your 'pumpkin'. Gently pull the fruit away from the skin. You can slide a finger between the fruit and the peel to help loosen it, and once you get the first segment pulled out, the rest get easier. Pull out all of the orange segments, 1 or 2 at a time. Note- At this point, you should have a small round circle, and a bowl shaped peice. At this point, you could dry it and do any number of things with it, including filling it with cloves and tying it off- putting this in a drawer will make your clothes smell like orange spice. You can also use it as a box, put a tea light in the bowl part, or any number of other things! 4. Using a small knife, carve a face into the peel. 5. Set the peel in front of a fan, or in a cool, dry place with good circulation. On a heat vent works well too. It should only take a day or two for the peels to completely dry. If you want it to glow, either toss the 'lid' and use a real tea light, or keep the lid and get some electric tea lights from the dollar store. I got my pumpkin for this year! I'll be carving him up soon, anyone want to carve pumpkins with me? The clerk at Safeway didn't know how to ring it up and there wasn't a price on it, so he rang it up as a 'pumpkin' and I got this guy for only $2.49! (Lighter in the bottom left for size reference) I'm thinking I'll give him a face in the top part and carve an intricate patern into the 'belly' of it. I could also carve it to look like a fox sitting upright, or I could flip it on end and make it a spooky skull... I could also just carve intricate patterns into it and make it a more elegant, albeit short lived, lantern. Maybe a scene? Idk! I'm working on a wooden disc, no primer so the woodgrain will give the whole thing a soft feel.
