(Well, I tried, but I just can’t keep my drive to RP here anymore, between everything that’s been going on for me in life. I’ve been doing some script writing for some acting related stuff I’m involved in and also working on my stories, which is taking up most of my energy when it comes to writing and has just left me pretty burnt out on writing here. There’s some other stuff that’s also been hampering my motivation, but it’s kind of personal and I’d rather not discuss it out here, but the former has been especially rough on my drive to write here. So, I’m unfortunately going to have to declare indefinite hiatus. I’m hoping to come back someday, but for the foreseeable future, I’m not going to be around.)

Chapter 2 with 10k words, eh? I’ve gotten (finally) gotten four chapters of my OC verse written… Might created a wordpress for it

(OH, YEAH. I REMEMBER THAT. Thinking about a wordpress now? Sounds like you’re getting pretty indepth on this. Not too surprising, since I know you created a wiki for your RPverse(s) here. I’ve said it before, but link me as soon as you post it anywhere. Your writing is fun and the brief description you gave has me curious.)

Escape from Tumblr. its a good feel
Tumblr media
(To be honest, it’s kind of freeing in a way. I used tumblr as a writing outlet, since I’d never tried doing lengthy fics myself and forums didn’t scratch the itch anymore, but with doing some script writing and actually getting to my own story, that’s over 10k words at chapter 2, I’m kind of getting the fulfillment this hellsite gave me, but elsewhere. I’m finally free.)

(Thanks! So sorry that we never got to go too many places in our thread and I took forever. Your Hibiki was fun.)

🚫- One of my least favorite icons
(Lemmeeeee see here. This one. I’m actually not sure what happened to this one. I think it either got messed up when I was transfering files from my computer, editing the scar out of Negi’s icons, or something else. But the quality on it is baaaaaaaad. I still have it, because I virtually never delete icons. I have like, almost 20k icons hoarded because of this.)

🚜- An icon I haven’t used at all
(Boy. I have so many. 90% of his Lightning Form icons count, since I think, in the entire 5 years I’ve been playing Negi, I have used that form like... Twice? MAYBE three times? Then there’s his older self. Then there’s his older self in Lightning Form. I’ve got like, 4 folders for Negi I never open, so lemme just pick one at random.)

“Personally, I do enjoy coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. It’s always nice to have a variety of drinks to enjoy throughout the day.”
Well, hello there, Nekane. What an interesting way to show up as a new muse for this blog AND immediately get into the heated debate between tea and coffee which I could care less because LEMONADE IS WHERE IT’S AT.
There is a deep and profound sense of betrayal growing deep within the core of Negi’s being. His own family drank that muddy water.
Tumblr media
At least she wasn’t completely lost to that side and wasn’t insulting tea. He could still begrudgingly respect preferences in this case.

What is the Mun's opinion on Ken Akamatsu?
(Hoooooooooo boy.)
(I could go on a long, long essay for my feelings in respect to Akamatsu and his works. I’ll try and keep this a little short so I don’t rile myself up too much.)
(Before UQ Holder, I really liked the guy. Negima is my favorite manga for a couple of reasons. The world building is absolutely fantastic and top notch, with the magic system being more deeply developed than almost any other manga/anime out there, with few giving it a run for its money. The characters are also great, Negi being a refreshing take on the usual shounen protag and archetypes that dominate the market now, and, despite the HUGE cast size, a lot of them still get a good amount of development and focus. There’s obviously some people who get more than others and are the main characters, but even most of the small time people get decent development. Hell, there’s also the surprisingly good usage of things like Latin and SANSKRIT in the manga, all seem to be accurate. That’s some impressive dedication. Despite the ending, I blamed the editors more than Akamatsu at the time, given the legal stuff going on at the time and Akamatsu didn’t want to give up his manga, which I supposed, because of how BAD all the other adaptations have been. Negima would’ve gone to hell.)
(And theeeeeeeeeeen UQ Holder happened. I. HATE that manga. It was a tremendous step backwards in overall story telling and utterly ASSASSINATED Evangeline’s character, one of my favorites from Negima. The world building feels half assed and characters get almost no development, save for Touta, Eva, and Kirie. Santa had their arc, which while his development itself seemed good, the events of it were awful. Fucking Zombie Apocalypse. Then…. They kinda just became a prop that sat in the background 90% of the time. There’s also all the deus ex machina and asspulls for powers that make no real sense. The pacing also sucks, I just URG. I’m gonna stop myself before I go on a full blown rant. I can and have ranted on EACH of these points in the past before. I don’t want to do it again and put myself in a bad mood.)
(I don’t even know how to explain it, but it killed a lot of faith in Akamatsu for me. Sometimes authors just have a fluke and make a real good story, or perhaps having editors to reign him in and say “no” helped. The early chapters of Negima, as awful as they were, had some nice character development and building, even if the story and harem hijinks were an eyesore. Maybe it was the fact he lost quite a few assistants from Negima, including his Latin expert. The more I thought about it, the more I also realized he could have ended the Negima manga differently and not just deus ex machina solve everything off screen to avoid the legal troubles. And hell, he’s DOING another manga anyway, so he could’ve solved all the cliff hangers there. Instead, we got the Sleeping Asuna timeline that nobody wanted over finding out what happened between chapter’s 353 and 354.)
(Basically, I used to love him back during Negima, but now I think he’s a goddamn hack who managed to catch lightning in a bottle during Negima, but can’t do it again.)

“Oh Negi. If I have muddy water then you have nothing more than grass water. I have to say. We must come up with better insults. Then again when one likes tea I guess I cannot get much better.”
“Do you want to personally insult me? Tea has a long and rich ancestry dating back thousands of years. One tea leaf has more flavor and history to it than an entire bag of those disgusting coffee grounds.”

(Ok, so massively overdue apology here. I MEANT to make a hiatus post weeks back. Entering the last month of school and acting is getting a bit busy, so I wanted to wait for some of it to settle down before I returned to activity here.)
(But then it just)
(Kinda)
(Fell to the wayside between everything.)
(Sorry.)
(So that said, I’ll probably be back to regular activity sometime next week, give or take. Finals will be done then.)

Terms and Concepts: Basics of Magic and Energy
(So because this blog isn’t enough of a wiki already, I’ve decided to make some pages for terms and concepts in Negima. A nice credit to Vetus for compiling most of this information. I’ve also copied some descriptions I’ve wrote on other parts, for sake of having in its own section. First up is magic. I will be largely only including things specific to NEGIMA’S system of magic. Like, their use of elemental magic is different compared to most systems, so it will be explained here. However, a general barrier is the same almost anywhere, it blocks attacks/effects of things, with some esoteric exceptions at high level. As such, I don’t feel the need to outline that.)
MAGIC IN GENERAL:
Cast using mana, the study and pursuit of magic stretches back millennia to ancient times. Initially, magic was used to find answer about the world, uncover the mysteries of the universe. As society progressed and the world became more understood, the mystery of magic begin to decay and become better understood, allowing it to take on specific forms and functions.
However, due to the invention of magic coming from an ancient time when the world was less understood, certain aspects of it carry over into modern society. The use of elements being a major one. Thousands of years ago, the world did not see fire as the release of heat and light due to combustion, but as one of the world’s fundamental “substances”, also known as the prime essences, the basis for all in reality. This is often seen as the 4 classical elements.
Being seen as the base forms of the world, this in effect causes the elements summoned by magic to ignore causation or physics to a degree. Magical “fire”, for instance, will continue burning without any fuel, being able to exist underwater or even in a complete vacuum. Likewise, “water” will never freeze, regardless of temperature, “wind” will retain it’s speed and velocity in defiance of any external conditions that would slow it, and “earth” will never change its physical composition. This applies mainly against “natural” elements. As wind magic is capable of putting out magic fire, due to operating on a similar conceptual level, where’s natural wind would never put out magical fire. In essence, this means that if something does not work on a similar, conceptual based level as the magic of the elements, countering it would prove near impossible.
SPELL:
The words that evoke the power of the mystical. The phrases spoken are not just a set of words that “activate” magic, like a switch, but in actuality contain the power and energy of the spell. Despite this, magic incantations are not simply ‘words of power.” Spells and the words associated with them also contain the will of the caster, acting as the medium between magic and the spell caster to allow them to shape the “power of words” into the form they desire. These are generally classified into 3 categories, named, unnamed, and ritual spells.
Named Spell:
Named spells are what most think of when they view magic. A named spell is, as the category implies, a specific spell with a fixed effect. Given it’s nature as a fixed effect designed for a specific purpose, these can be tremendously powerful, provided the caster possesses the ability to use it. The downside, however, is that, given it’s fixed nature and concept of the spell, it cannot be altered. There are two exceptions to this, but only one widely usable by any mage. The main exception is Sagitta Magica, which can have the number of arrows and element changed to be what the caster desires, fired in a scattered pattern, or one powerful, concentrated blast. The other is Magia Erebea, which allows the combining of spells, due to it’s nature in manipulating concepts.
A mage that possesses extreme familiarity with a spell, bordering on subconsciously and instinctual being able to use it, can use named spells without any chant, enabling far quicker reactions in battle. However, by using the chant of such a spell regardless, it further strengthens the power of the spell, greatly enhancing its power beyond normal levels.
Unnamed Spell:
Closer to an impromptu or a command, giving a strong impression that it is something the mage creates in response to the needs of the situation, allowing it to be used for virtually anything the mage desires. For example, Negi’s creation of a love potion, and the manipulation of the brushes were both unnamed spells. As these spells use the power of the words directly, in a way, these are the truest definition of “spells”; magic can be established as long as words of a language of magic are put together as according to its grammatical rules. The effects of unnamed spells are not strong, but they can be freely created based on intents. The majority of magic a mage uses in normal life is most likely of this type.
Ritual Magic:
Large scale, organized magic that is used to accomplish effects a mage normally could not on their own. They generally involve  lengthy setups and can use various factors, such as positions of celestial bodies, blood sacrifices, or magical artifacts. The effect of this can vary, but almost always takes a long time to set up and the spells are single use. The most powerful mages can accomplish the effects of some rituals that minor mages would require, using  their own spells and without extensive set up. Essentially, they are unchanted spells in that they can be used for almost whatever the mage desires, but significantly stronger and requiring extensive preparation to match.
POSING AND RITES:
Beyond merely reciting the words associated with a spell, there are other aspects associated with the casting of spells, generally more so at higher levels. The movements, gestures, and positioning of ones body is an integral part of spell casting, equally as the word said. These can range from tracing complex motions with ones hands, to more simple, such as making a specific pose.
These all tie into the use of Rites, the process of which a magic successfully uses magic. The higher level the usage of magic, the greater in complexity of motions and words, along with stricter restrictions on their use, are required for use. Higher level mages with enough mastery over the mage they are using can use the spells without as much worry of their strict requirements, compared to lower level magic users.
To aid the spell caster, sacrifices can be prepared for usage in rites. Extremely powerful results as often achieved using living sacrifices, with the effected furthered by those of great spiritual power, such as shrine maidens, or those whom share a close or blood-tie relation to the caster.
TYPES OF ENERGY:
In the usage of magic, there are two primary types of energy used. Unlike common belief, mana is not the sole source of the mystical. The other form of energy is known as Qi/Ki, coming from the ancient Chinese belief. Both types of energy are vastly different from each other in their source and usage.
Mana:
Magical Power required to use Western Magic. However, Mana is not something that comes innately or from one’s own willpower. It is instead taken externally, from the energy of the universe and then subdued, shaped into what the caster desires, with their own willpower. This effectively means the source of mana is infinite, but this does not mean that mages are capable of battling endlessly. As mages continue battling, it is possible for them to exhaust their willpower and be unable to channel mana any further. In this state, a mage can be said to be out of mana. In a way, it is similar to one constantly working. Eventually, their will to continue working further will slowly be eroded and they will eventually be unable to focus, requiring a break to “recharge”.
There are two primary ways to improve one’s Mana Capacity. By training the mind and strengthening one’s willpower, it is believed one’s ability to control and contain mana is increased. The other method is by improving one’s efficiency of usage, becoming better practiced in certain spells and thus reducing the willpowered required to subdue the energy and shape it into the spell, enabling the caster to use more magic on less energy. The greatest mages can potentially last for days of continuous high level magic usage without rest.
The theory of Mana is based on the Chinese concept of onmyou or Yin and Yang. While the energy outside of the body would be Myou, the energy inside the body would be On. As On and Myou are the smallest units representing the state of all things in existence, they exist in the foundation of all phenomena. On is the female and maternal component, representing the power of the earth, and of darkness and shadows. On the other hand, Myou is the male and paternal component, representing the power of the heavens, of creation, of light and brightness, and of activity.
Ki:
One of the foundations of the ancient Chinese Magic system and that used primarily in Eastern Magic.  It is both the element which composes all things in existence, and the energy which moves them. It is extremely close to the Western magic concept of prime essences; however, there is a greater emphasis on it being an energy. Qi, as an energy, is similar to the concept of Prana found in Indian philosophy. Qi was born from the chaos before Creation; when Qi and the chaos mixed, ‘time’ was born. Over time, the Qi began to divide. Heavier Qi sunk and formed the ‘Earth’, while lighter Qi rose and formed the ‘Sky’; in other words, On and Myou.
Compared to Mana, which is an external force and based on drawing it within before using, Ki is based on the internal and strengthening one’s body, projecting their own power outwards. Given this, using both Mana and Ki at the same time is prodigiously difficult, due to operating on fundamentally different principles. The main and only exception to this principle is the art of Kanka.
