Fatalis........ :) <3 My friend and I just spent like 2 hours panicking our way through the quest LOL. 10/10 amazing, was laughing my ass off the first time Fatty changed up his attack pattern and my friend and I had NO fucking clue wtf he was doing next and just ate shit LMAO. I think the fight is really fun though, and I can’t wait to poke at it when my brain isn’t straight up pudding to try and grab gold in the quest. At my current level, though, I can’t imagine getting through this with an NPC >>;;. He hurtssss and doesn’t give you a ton of room to heal up when things go sideways.
Who said turn-based rpgs can’t be ass-clenching! Man, I love this arena fight so much and I’m so glad I get to see this dumb noodleneck corgi gecko as much as I want now. Blows a kiss to my favorite spicy linguine.
Like 90% of his attack patterns along with the strategy I used under the cut if you guys need any help.
There’s a few parts where it’s a bit spotty, as I tend to just spam evasion riff near the end and don’t pay too close attention, so feel free to correct me on those phases!
Turn 1: Speed Turn 2: Speed Turn 3: Sky Force (single target) OR Hellish Flame (AOE)
After Sky Force: Speed Speed Sky Force OR Hellish Flame
After Hellish Flame: Power Power Sky Force OR Hellish Flame
If he stands up (enraged above 50% HP): Tec + Tec Tec + Tail Slam (Tec?)* Tec + Dragon Slam (AOE, untyped)
50% HP (you’ll know once you hit the showdown): Fatalis will stand up Sky Force + Tec Sky Force + Tec Sky Force + Dust Explosion (AOE)
After that he’ll cycle through Sky Force/Hellish Flame just like above.
Enraged below 50% HP (he stands up): Power + Power (?)* Sky Force (untyped) + Tec (?)* Tec + Power (?)*
And he’ll cycle through the above attack pattern until...
1% health remaining: Dust Explosion (evasion riff or tank it, it does hurt a lot btw so the evasion riff is... highly recommended)
After that, just hit him once more and he’s done.
*These turns I usually use evasion riff so I’m not positive what he does for the second attack (the first attack is the correct typing), so please do correct me if I’m wrong on the second one >>;;
Fatty IS weak to dragon and does quite a bit of dragon typed damage so if you’ve got a nice stygian, it’ll be putting in some hard work in this fight. I cannot recommend crit-kinship and a crit-based build enough for keeping your kinship up, it’s gonna save your ass >>;;
Friend and I have gone through this quest a few times now and we’ve managed it pretty well. The last chunk of his health bar is SO unforgiving of mistakes because there’s just no time to heal really if you fuck up. I dunno how much of a difference being lv 99 is because neither of us are LOL but with the way he just straight up tears you a brand new butthole when you screw up the doubles, I doubt being higher level would make that much of a difference. Haven’t been able to get gold in the quest yet, but we’ve managed silver once and bronze once.
If y’all want the strategy my friend and I used, it’s as follows:
Loadout is sword of your choice (I used GS, but anything is fine, dragon element is good if you can manage) + Gunlance (any) + Hunting Horn (Velkhana/Soulseer)
Friend and I also used a mounting charm + recovery charm. Of the two, the mounting charm is SUPER important imo. Recovery charm could be anything. Might charm or adamant charm are probably equally good choices.
Above 50%: charge kinship on as many monsties as you can, cycling off double attacks with your buddy. He’s SUPER forgiving in this phase. On the attacks where he’s doing untyped attacks (sky force or hellish flame), PROTECT with a gunlance if you can tell he’s gonna use sky force, or EVASION RIFF with hunting horn.
Above 50% Enraged: - The person who has the first HtH will cancel the first attack with a monstie, while the person who doesn’t have the HtH uses evasion riff for the second attack so no one eats shit. - Pretty much repeat for all 3 turns of enrage. He’ll un-enrage after doing the dragon slam.
At 50%: - Person 1 uses protect on GL. Person 2 uses evasion riff IF you guys have a crit-kin build. If not, pray that the gunlancer can tank both hits :’) - Person 2 uses protect on GL. Person 1 heals up or pets their monster or uses evasion riff if they’re not on death’s door. - Person 1 uses protect on GL while person 2 MUST use evasion riff to protect the whole team from dust explosion. Only the gunlancer will get hit by the dust explosion, which is MUCH easier to come back from.
Enraged below 50%: - He will ALWAYS cycle through Power > Untyped > Tec > Power > Untyped > Tec on his first attack. - Power turn: Person who has the first HtH will cancel it out with your BUDDY’s monstie. That way you’re both getting kinship. Person who doesn’t have the HtH will use evasion riff. - Untyped turn, I’m about 60% sure that he does 2 single target attacks but I’m not positive because my friend and I play it safe and always has 1 person use protect (whoever has less kinship) while one person does evasion riff (the person with more kinship). - Tec turn: Person who has the HtH cancels it out with their buddy’s monstie. Person without the HtH uses evasion riff.
Cycle out your monsters as needed to burn those saved up kinship gauges. Keep track of what attack he does first every turn. You’re almost there!
Once he does dust explosion, you’re pretty much done :)
I don’t think this is the best way to do it, as my friend and I are both maybe a little too low level to be tackling it considering Fatalis oneshots both of us if he hits either of our riders, but it’s definitely an extremely safe way of tackling the quest. Our best time was about 43 turns, so it’s not too awful DPS-wise, but probably would need a little more oomph to push us under the 40-turn limit for gold.
Good luck to anyone looking to bully the big noodle :D

@hip-hopgana
also what level do u have to be to fight oroshi kirin? i'm about level 60 and i die instantly
oh god I forgot how much of a nightmare it is to reply to people on tumblr sorry, hope you get this message LOL
my character is around level 80 and I beat it pretty easily, so I don’t think you need to have that many levels to beat it. I think what I generally use to gauge whether or not I can win it is if my tankiest monstie can survive at least 1 hit (when they aren’t losing a head to head), it’s probably doable. Might be a little stressful if they’re close to fainting after 1 hit, but doable for sure.
Its attack pattern iirc goes speed (normal) > power (enraged) > tec (ice aura active). Like regular Kirin, break the head to knock it down for a free round of crits. It’s also weak to fire.
a hunting horn with the team evasion song (velkhana hh, for instance) or bringing a gunlance for the taunt skill can also help keep your team healthy, too.
hope that helps!

You can get them from low rank and high rank gold dens in Loloska! No need to farm the subquest den over and over, thankfully.
I'm not positive if it's all of Loloska or if it's just Loloska forest, but either way, try those gold dens :O
Good luck!
uhgmnfndnndd im so fucking upset right now. Why is it so hard to get an Oroshi, am i doing to wrong quest or is my rng just absolute dogwater??

Personal best time on KT is now 14:45 whew. I kind of wish there were more of a reason to grind this quest, because the time limit is pretty fun. It’s too bad the time limit rewards can only be gotten once :|. I don’t have much of a reason to grind KT more, otherwise.
I could probably do this even faster if I brought/built monsties and weapons with KT’s elemental weaknesses but eh. Quest isn’t too hard to brute force with my best non-elem monster. Could/should probably build them for hard mode KT coming in the future, but I’ll cross that bridge when it comes.

OH HEY do you? :D I’d be totally happy to walk you through SR dens if you’d like! I’m reasonably high enough leveled that I think I can carry you just fine as long as you focus on keeping yourself alive! The only den boss that’s occasionally dicey for me is Rajang but we can just have a laugh if it absolutely curbstomps us, it’s totally nbd LOL.
Yeah PC seems pretty dead... it’s because for whatever huge-brained reason I do not comprehend, online multiplayer on steam is region locked :’);;; which is probably my biggest gripe with the game. I have heard it works just fine as long as we’re on each other’s friends lists, but I have not particularly tested this LOL
me trying to join a SR coop expedition with my regular diablos greatsword, and my monstie team of tobi kadachi, nergigante and mizutsune, desperately trying to finally get some elder dragon/deviant eggs and/or their equipment

aw, that’s such a bummer :( in the off chance you have the game on PC, I’d be happy to help you through some SR co-op dens and/or deviant hunts! ^^
if not, good luck! idk how it is on switch, but a lot of people have been really nice to me starting out on PC multiplayer :O, it’s just a matter of actually getting into the expeditions.

@mandl27
Fun(?) fact: after discharging a second time, Boltreaver switches to speed. No clue if it goes back to tech after a third discharge but I'd assume so.
Oh man! Good to know. I had wondered! I’ve fought it twice now and both times we managed to take it down before it hit its second charge phase, so I had no idea :’D. Thanks!

@explosiveforce
Agreed. I ended up relying on my Nargacugra and Pukei-Pukei more than Ratha.
Oh man same. Pukei was my party MVP, really. I think I very grudgingly replaced it near-endgame and my Nargacuga I only recently replaced when I got a Silverwind. Both of them put in hard work!!

Oh man KT is neat. I kind of wish the quest was a little more... more. But can’t complain, really. I love the look of the KT armor and layered it immediately +_+. I did have a startled laugh when KT did the roly poly body slam, though. Good memories of eating a ton of those in MHW :’)
The Kulve weapons are kinda less exciting than I was hoping they would be. Weaker than the deviant weapons? :( Water element is nice though. I wonder if KT (hard) on the update roadmap will add the kjarr weapons...
Super nice to see some life in the multiplayer lobbies! In case anyone is curious about the attack patterns of the newly added monsters, I’ll put my findings under a read more.
Kulve Taroth: Normal: Technical Enraged: Power Form-changed: Speed
Hellblade Glavenus: Normal: Power Form-changed: Speed
Boltreaver Astalos: Normal/Charged: Technical Flying/Enraged(?): Whole lotta bullshit. Attacks twice. Seems to only use untyped attacks in the air? Hurty zappy. After Discharging: Swaps to power type After Discharging Again: Swaps to speed type (credits to @mandl27 for letting me know!)
I’m least positive about boltreaver’s pattern as I’ve only fought it once so far, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!
