“ At the end of the rainy season in September, before their annual migration begins, the nomadic clans gather in the desert with their cattle to celebrate, but also to compete. The week-long festival known as Gerewol, is a rich cultural ceremony of courtship which involves clan-meetings, camel racing, dancing, singing, marriage bartering, but most importantly, the hunt for the best looking male of the tribe. “

Pride 2016
Pride isn't really about pride. It's about resistance. Ever since LGBT people first fought back against abusive police at Stonewall, it's been about fighting back against those who oppress us. Now, we have been lucky enough to live in one of the most freeing times in modern history for LGBT people. Unfortunately it won't stay that way forever if we just sit back, and it certainly won't get better on its own.
A man motivated by homophobia and transphobia can walk into a nightclub in Orlando and kill 50 mostly Latinx people, and the media focuses not on the hatred of queer people and racism that is so deeply ingrained in our culture but instead uses the shooter's Islamic background to push an islamophobic narrative. When tackling the homophobia that led to the massacre is seen as less important than spreading hatred of Muslim people you know the Western mainstream media and the politicians who speak through it do not have our best interests in their hearts. Our lives and deaths, or love, can be co-opted to push hate. That is an important lesson.
The past week since the Brexit referendum vote has seen a surge in xenophobic attacks in our country and you know that those committing them have a fear of the Other that doesn't just stop with people from different ethnic or racial backgrounds. The rise of the far right across Europe and increasingly in the UK is something we should be very, very afraid of. When they have exhausted their supply of Muslims and immigrants to blame for all of Little England's problems they will look for someone else to bully and eradicate. To all my fellow White British LGBT people: we must stand up to xenophobia. We may be safe from it but we are not safe from what is behind it and it does affect us.
The coming years will probably see our country step further and further away from the European Union, and with each step taken we stand to lose a protection, or a right, or the legal precedent set by a hard-won European Court of Human Rights battle. Will the government protect or replace what we stand so close to losing? You know there's no guarantee.
So this Pride, be proud. But also steel yourself for the battles to come.

The Bonfires locations in Dark Souls are meant to reinforce the character of the area the player is in, while still feeling like a safe space. The Depths has a highly claustrophobic, largely featureless room for its Bonfire, while Blighttown has a Bonfire situated on the edge of a wall, with an enormous drop on either side.
