see according to krashen, the only way people actually learn language is through "comprehensible input" - getting examples of the language that are understandable, the way your teacher went wrong in this regard would be by not accounting for what krashen calls the input hypothesis, where a learner learns language by comprehending language that is a little above their current level - the natural world is incredibly complex! of course it wasnt comprehensible

id probably recommend the teacher bring in an earthstone and slowly move different objects towards and away from it, since by its nature the earthstone will focus the simple concepts of the things nearby it, which should be much easier to follow, then later, when the class can follow the basic elvish, going to glades etc
