Brandon Rogers is the Helluva Boss

During the Hellaverse hiatus- I want to touch on a little bit of fandom lore that means the absolute world to me.

Recently, during the Fan Expo- Denver- the Helluva Boss panel in particular got a bit real, and a bit emotional.

Many of the voice actors, including Viv shared some real vulnerable and emotional stuff, but I want to highlight what Brandon said in particular because (I'm a Blitz simp) and it really struck a cord in me.

Brandon talks a lot about how he's able to relate to Blitz's struggles of being kept down by an oppressive system, because his entire adult life- he himself has always felt put down by Hollywood as a whole.

Brandon is 34 years old- is known as one of the few Veteran YouTubers who's still around today, has his own actors that he works with and pays personally, he writes his own scripts, does his own editing, etc- yet to this day he still hasn't landed any auditions.

Everytime Brandon goes to conventions, he sometimes feels looked down by other guests and even the convention themselves because he's a "YouTuber" when Brandon wants to be known as more than just that- he's an actor, a comedian, a voice actor.

Brandon talks about how the only person who has ever given him a chance, and told him that his work was good enough was Viv- no one else, just Viv.

And it just got me so emotional because Brandon's role as Blitz means so much to me, to a lot of people- I genuinely cannot imagine Helluva Boss being what it is today without his influence.

It's Viv's show at the end of the day and her role in both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss is absolutely vital, but how do I say this- to me, Viv brings the Hellaverse into Helluva Boss, but Brandon is the glue that makes Helluva Boss be known as more than just Viv's "other show".

And than this whole thing got me thinking about how Brandon almost didn't complete his YouTube series, 'Blame the Hero' because it was so fucking hard to produce, because Brandon made it during a difficult time in his life when he was feeling uninspired, when he kept on dealing with failed audition after failed audition- but he did it anyway because he thought,

"What if someone discovers me because of this series?"

And the thing is…

That stupid little YouTube series that Brandon almost quit making was what inspired Viv to hire him, and give him the starring role as Blitz.

Fun Fact: The only reason Brandon is invited to conventions in the first place- and the only reason why his line in conventions is always filled to the brim is because he's the only YouTuber invited there, since he plays Blitz.

Welcome to part 2 of the absolutely true story of the Boba that tried to kill me. This part is more of a funny epilogue than anything, but it inspired this continuation of the original comic:

This takes place exactly one week after the original boba-inhalation incident, during the time in which the status of my throat was unknown. I had finished eating the baguette and guzzling the carbonated water, and we decided to go for our usual Sunday afternoon trip to the mall (which is really just a trip to Hot Topic to check for Helluva Boss merch that we really shouldn’t be buying). Anyhow, traditionally I visit ChatTime Tea to get, you guessed it, boba tea. I am nothing if not a creature of habit, so without thinking I saunter up to the counter and order my usual. I wander back to find @theradiodaemon and little Larryisnotgirl with my delicious Sunday treat. As I come around the corner, non-chalantly sipping on my drink. @theradiodaemon looks at me and goes

“Uh, honey what are you doing?”

“I just went to grab ChatTime, why?”

“Are you kidding me??” I am very perplexed at this point and trying to figure out what was wrong.

“Didn’t you just spend this entire weekend stuffing yourself with bread and Bubly trying to get one of those out of your throat? Don’t you have an x-ray tomorrow to see if you have one in your lungs?”

“Ooooooh, right.” I say sheepishly.

I legitimately forgot the ordeal of the past week. It just flew from my head the second I got to the mall and the monkey part of my brain went “Yummy boba, go get!!”.

I was then made to sit down, not read anything or look at anything or even think of anything funny lest the boba in my throat become a twin. I was the most serious boba drinker the mall had ever seen. Ever so carefully I chewed and swallowed each of the tapioca balls.

I did have the x-ray (on my birthday for extra fun) and the follow-up was just a couple of days ago. The good news is I am officially boba free! The offending blob of tapioca did not migrate to my lungs and my home remedy worked! I have learned my lesson and will treat my boba drinking with all the reverence and seriousness it demands. Cause I’m obviously not going to actually stop drinking it. THAT would be crazy.

Okay so here is our answer:

Did Blitzø kill Remy?:

Remy was NOT KILLED by Blitzø!

Corn and I have both agreed that Remy died happily of old age, especially since rats have a short lifespan.

(Wild rats usually live up to 1-2 years and domestic rats live up to 2-4 years. 🪦R.I.P Remy 🧑🏻‍🍳🐀 🪦)

Skinner was super vague and literally just told Blitzø to kill a bunch of rats in Paris. Skinner is an idiot. A vengeful idiot, but an idiot. Basically Blitzø killed a random colony of rats in Paris. He somehow stumbled upon some kinda French rat mob. Hence the Molotov cocktails and gun welding rats.

Skinner's Death:

What I like to imagine is that Remy did invertly kill Skinner the first time. Skinner went to kill the rats with rat poison. In Ratatouille it is shown that Remy can detect if rat poison is in food due to his refined sense of smell and that is why he is so important to his colony.

For the comics backstory I'd like to think that Remy found out that Skinner had attempted to kill his colony with rat poison and so in order to protect his colony and loved ones Remy moved the rat poison into Skinner's own food. This is why Skinner's sinner form is a rat. By the time that Skinner has gone to Blitzø, Remy has already passed of old age and is in rat heaven as a legend and as a hero to all.

Stolas did kill Sinner Skinner. At the time Blitzø comes back Skinner is already dead dead. Owls usually kill prey before swallowing them. Especially if their prey is large. In the drawing Skinner's body is shown as being limp. If he was alive you would see it in his limbs.

I hope that answers all the questions. I truly love this comic that I did with Cornsyrupfromhell. 🥰

Blitzø's reaction is more when you find out that your pet has killed a rabbit and is now holding said Rabbit in their mouth. Blitzø is shocked but also he knows what is done has been done. More than likely he's going to be like wait we gotta at least empty his pockets 🤣.

Yessssss I literally love this human Blitzø design. I've been in the middle of drawing a long haired Blitzø human disguise for over a week now.

It's one of my favorite headcanons that the size of the horns relate to having a lot of hair.

He is a horse girl. LET THIS MAN HAVE A LUCIOUS MANE!!!

I also love the idea of Blitzø having the sides of his hair braided.

No, Helluva Boss isn't going to kill off the main characters by the end. No, it isn't going to give us a message that it's all hopeless and it was all for nothing and that queer stories can only end in tragedy. Please please please stop catastrophising, and just give the writers a bit of your trust. I know we're all jaded because of how many queer shows have been cancelled or have treated their queer audience like absolute shit but can we please trust Helluva Boss to be a show that will one day be comforting, and healing, and fun, and emotional, for us queers to go back to and watch in its entirety?

Thank you for asking this amazing question which is a wonderful segue to what I have been up to lately and my plans for the future.

Yes, I still have requests open I just can't guarantee time or anything. I think I have about 5 currently in my inbox 🤔.

Life got really busy with end of the school year teacher stuff, art collabs, family vacation, being a homie with general chronic illnesses, and some other personal art exploration.

(This is a quick sketch I made the other day of my chronically ill impsona)

For example I've been really into learning how to create repeating patterns and ✨Print Making✨

On the side I've been looking into experimenting with some linocut carving and making Helluva Boss themed ✨BANDANAS✨. (I might also look into screen printing. If all goes well hopefully I'll make an Etsy shop or something 🤞🏻. More research and experimentation is needed before more updates on that path)

Here is a pattern design I made for the characters horse-sonas for a bandana

As of now I have completed my current helluva boss collabs with the following amazing artists: @cornsyrupfromhell, @dishrack-holygrail, and @theradiodaemon. I might do some more in the future cuz they are all amazing artists to work with and just overall awesome individuals.

But yesssss I do still plan on drawing some of the requests when I have the time and when I'm in between and want a good break. Since the requests are not commissions I treat them more as a fun art practice for me to do the side in between projects! It's especially helpful with artist block! I do see and appreciate all of the requests!!!

If enough people are interested and want their requests right away I might look into making commission a thing 🤔. If it turns out people are willing to pay me the 💰 moola 💰 for my services, I'll get things set up. (Could you imagine an artist actually getting paid for their art 👀👀👀.)
