in life, annabel and lenore were the type to have nonsensical inside jokes that are confusing or plain absurd to outsiders but hilarious to the two of them. at fancy dinners, gatherings, parties, or anywhere they were around other people, they would try to reference or slip these jokes into the conversation in an attempt to make the other laugh— eventually, it became a game between the two to see who could get the other to break their composure first. it’s left them teary-eyed and doubled over with laughter, surrounded by bewildered people plenty of times, and they never get tired of it :]

Most of these come all the way back from their time staying at Lenore’s home, which is part of why it made absolutely no sense to anyone when Lenore was staying at the Whitlock’s residence as Leo. But even before she took on that identity, they just spent so much time alone together that none of the staff knew what they were talking about.

As they regain their memories at nevermore, they’ve slowly been relearning all their jokes as well. They’ve had to excuse themselves from more than one situation about it. Neither of them has tried referencing any of these again so far, either because it too dangerous or they simply haven’t had the opportunity. But they will at some point

Eulailie knows because left handedness is traditionally seen as a sign of evil or bad luck. Which is exactly the sort of thing she would notice

Pluto knows because he tends to get along with girls better so they were just hanging out long enough that one of them happened to bring it up

Annabel knows because she closely watches everyone for details in case they can be used as leverage at some point

Lenore knows because she pays attention to everyone on her team and how they do things and what they like out of care for them

And Duke -similar to Eulailie- knows because left handedness is rare and he likes when people have little eccentricities like that

Duke is stimmy, he’s constantly moving or messing with something (rocking back and forth, hair twirling, leg bouncing, etc.). Annabel has gotten dizzy just watching him. He’s also hypermobile.

(Yes, this is partly me projecting- but I can imagine it nonetheless.)

It doesn’t help that his fingers are just so quick. If he ever loses his grip on a pencil or something it flies across the room. Someone commented that he had thieves’ fingers when he was small, and that actually contributed to him trying to learn how to magic.

My headcanon is that Pluto is bi and trans, but is closeted and repressed and doesn't realize either of these things yet. I think he'd have spent so long trying not to give people a reason to bully or abuse him that he probably would only fully accept it in a modern AU

Duke fucking knows though. Duke smiles at him knowingly about it. He’s trying to be encouraging, but he’s really just making it worse because Pluro thinks he’s being snide
