I sit at the loom, my hands moving the strings and feet stomping the pedals, my mind busy absorbing books and podcasts. There are SO many powerful stories being told, fascinating and important information being shared in podcast form right now I want everyone to share in this bounty! So ive created a page on my website where I can share book, podcast and maybe sometimes musical recommendations. This is by no means a comprehensive list of favorites, and I will be adding to this list very frequently. My new and improved (and still in progress) website - https://jeannieortiz.com
Many blessings for the new year ahead.

Mint, merino and a railroad spike.
While visiting some friends I harvested a pile of mint that was overtaking the garden. Into the pot I put an iron railroad spike as mordant. ….and oooh this pot smelled yummy.

Choke cherries!
What a bounty there is, bushes by the river, along roadsides and skirting fields are heavily laden with the deep purple fruits. I sure wish I were able to can up some jams right now, but a little dye pot and syrup for vanilla ice cream will do.

Harvesting Tansy at one of me favorite river spots. When I lived here during college (almost 20 years ago 😳) I spent countless hours on this river. Meandering the shoreline in all seasons, admiring the stones and driftwood. It feels good to say hello to this spot again.
Harvest gently, harvest ethically, harvest responsibly.

Petrified wood and picture agate. Simply.
I feel like I’ve been finding just the perfect place to photograph each piece as I finish them. This burned log in the forest was just gorgeous, the textures, the colors…the best. These seven pieces of petrified wood I found and drilled. All of my new pieces in my online shop. https://shop.intentionallyconfusing.com

I love this lichen. And also is blue chalcedony with the labradorite and black tourmaline. I need to find myself a good book to learn more about lichens. Are there any #lichennerds out there that have any suggestions for me? I found one that looks amazing but it is a few hundred dollars.
My new collection of adornment is here - https://shop.intentionallyconfusing.com - I’ll be creating and posting more throughout the summer.

Soft Heart, like a vortex expanding with tenderness. Boundless and sweet.
Finding time to quiet down, and go deep into the heart. To listen intently to silence spoken.

Reimagining a prototype shirt I made years ago by special request. It is a combination of handwoven fabric and hand dyed raw silk. (It was made for someone a bit smaller than me, so it’s a little narrow in the shoulders, but you get the idea.)
Skirt is one of my favorite pieces by @bohemianfolkclothing

I harvested the last of our winter lettuce this morning, as it was starting to bolt. It always feels like summer has truly begun once there is no more lettuce in the garden. I love my @larrypogreba knife for garden work, or anything else really.

I’m going to make a ‘bits & pieces’ blanket, or two, out of wooly leftovers from other projects. I love weaving these. 💛💚💙🤎💙💚💛

Water running to its terminus. Seeping into the aquifer. Down mountains, running the same course. I wish I could flow over the pine needles, soil and stones like water. Effortless.

A little something new is in my shop. Years ago I used to make lots of simple little handwoven bags in this style, and still have one I use as my water bottle bag. I had a small piece of handwoven left over, felt like working on a sewing project, so here we go. Enjoy!

I’d really been craving a long walk in the woods, (there’s never a time when this isn’t the case I suppose) so we took a backpacking trip through some new canyons in my favorite place. A 25 mile loop over four magic days, greeting the waters, trees, stones and creatures that I love so dearly. The piece that I’ve been working on is inspired by this place. The river, soft forest floor, dry forest and lush riparian areas.

Since the algorithm seems to only like it when I use reels, and admittedly I am enjoying playing around with the video format, here we go. Crashing loom, clinking gears, bouncing rainbows and doves singing outside.

Paddling the Gila river has become an annual pilgrimage for us. A ritual in which we immerse ourselves in this temple of wilderness. This year the river is nearly dry. There was not enough snow to bring the spring high waters. This piece is an ode to this wilderness, engulfed in years of drought, and the keeper of Earth’s secrets. My heart breaks and tears come, drying before they hit the loom.
